Chapter 224: Substitute

Chapter 224: Substitute

"This is the first time I've ever tasted this wine. Do mermaids brew their own wine?"

At this moment, a row of wine bottles had been placed in front of Anno.

Empty.

From the moment she couldn't resist taking her first sip, she was hooked and couldn't stop.

"Our Mermaids have their own unique method of brewing wine."

Seeing how much Anno liked their wine, Theodore excitedly explained the mermaid winemaking process to her.

As Anno listened and drank, she silently thought to herself: This is the last bottle, and she will drink this last sip.

A slender, jade-like hand reached out, picked up the wine bottle, and poured a glass of wine. Anuo immediately pressed down on the hand, "You're not allowed to drink!"

Mingxi noticed a faint blush on Anuo's face and smoothed her long hair. "Okay, I won't drink."

Anno picked up the wine he had just poured and started drinking it herself. When she heard Theodore say that the wine had an alcohol content of 45%, she immediately stopped drinking.

It seems the prescription is a little high.

She glanced at the empty wine bottle in front of her and silently put down her glass.

She touched her burning cheeks and tingling skin. No, she couldn't drink anymore. If she got drunk, how could she keep an eye on Mingxi?

Five minutes later

Anno emptied the last bottle of wine and slammed it down on the table.

"What happened to it?"

Anno leaned back in his chair, casting an arrogant and disdainful glance at Theodore and Charles.

Theodore felt that the beautiful woman in front of him was different from before. When she swept his eyes over him, he immediately stood up, picked up the wine bottle in front of him, and walked over to Anno.

He poured wine for Anuo with a look of eagerness, "My beauty, I still have wine here, you can drink as much as you want."

Anno snorted and snatched the wine bottle from him. "What are you calling me, 'Beauty'? Call me Your Majesty!"

Theodore's mind went blank for a moment. "Huh?"

Her Majesty the Queen?

He looked at Anuo, whose face was flushed but whose eyes were clear, not like someone who was drunk. However, her expression and personality were completely different from her previous gentle and easy-going demeanor.

He couldn't help but move closer to her. "My beauty, are you drunk?"

Anno slapped him across the face. "How dare you! You actually call me a beauty!"

"Caesar, this fish just disrespected me. Throw him to the bottom of the mine to dig!"

Theodore was stunned by Anno's slap; she had quite a bit of strength, and a handprint immediately appeared on his fair face.

Mingxi reached out and pulled her close, saying, "Okay, I'll throw him to the bottom of the mine right now."

Anno looked at the handsome face in front of her, her delicate brows furrowing: "You are not Caesar."

“I am not.” A dark look gathered in Mingxi’s eyes. “I am Mingxi.”

"Mingxi..."

Anuo repeated the name to herself several times, then her eyes lit up as if she remembered it: "That's right, you're Mingxi, that silly fish!"

"She's drunk, I'll take her home first."

Mingxi opened a spatial portal, picked up Anuo, and stepped into the portal.

"Oh, I've prepared accommodations for you..."

Before Theodore could finish speaking, he watched as Mingxi and his beauty disappeared before his eyes.

He touched his still slightly burning face and suddenly grinned foolishly.

He also really liked that kind of beauty!

She's usually a gentle sweetheart, but when she's drunk, she turns into a proud little firecracker. This beauty is just too adorable!

He looked at Charles with sparkling eyes: "Father, you must beat Mingxi!"

If Mingxi loses, the beauty will no longer like him.

Charles rubbed his temples, feeling a bit of a headache. It was time for him to send his silly son to other seas to gain some experience. Staying by his side all day had made him lose his mind.

Mingxi took Anuo to the outside of the Mermaid Kingdom's city. Looking at the fish on the dome, she insisted on going to see the giant whale.

He summoned a whale, which carried them to the surface of the sea. The two sat on the whale's back and drifted aimlessly across the boundless ocean.

"What a big moon."

Anuo lay on Mingxi's lap, looking up at the satellites of Tianhe Star above.

She pointed to the two bright satellites overhead and asked in bewilderment, "How can there be two moons?"

She remembers there's only one moon on Earth, right?

She thought for a while and suddenly remembered that she was on Tianhe Star, not on Earth.

When she's drunk, her thoughts always jump around very quickly.

One moment she felt like she was on Earth, the next she felt like she was on an insectoid planet; the memories kept switching in her mind.

Looking at the face in front of her that was almost identical to Caesar's, she was reminded of her mission.

“Caesar, you can’t fall asleep, you know?” she said sternly, placing her hand on his cheek.

Mingxi looked down at her, took her hand, and slowly said, "I am Mingxi, not Caesar."

“You are Caesar’s alter ego, you are Caesar.” Anno had only this one mission on his mind, and he became stubborn.

“You are Caesar, my servant, and you must obey me.”

A trace of sorrow flashed across Mingxi's eyes, and her heart felt as if it had been pricked by countless tiny needles, radiating a persistent and dense pain.

"At least, I am Mingxi now." His voice was slightly hoarse as he squeezed out the words with difficulty.

A soft, warm hand touched his brow. "Are you sad?"

Anno ran her hand back and forth across his brow, trying to smooth out the furrow in his brow.

"Don't be sad, we'll be back soon."

"From now on, you will never leave me again, and you will never have to search for me all over the world again."

Mingxi stared at her intently for a long time before finally speaking, "Then, may I hide you away?"

Anno blinked: "Why did you hide me?"

Mingxi: "Because that way you won't think about leaving me again."

Anno smiled at him, "I won't leave you, you can stay by my side from now on."

"But I don't want to be Caesar."

He is an alter ego of Caesar, who possesses all of Caesar's memories. Perhaps before long, he will cease to exist.

But perhaps Caesar will keep him.

During the time he spent with Anunu, he used his mind-reading ability to hear many of her inner thoughts and gradually came to understand.

While Caesar used his clones to search for Anunu, he also used them to fulfill his own selfish desires.

As a member of the Zerg, Caesar obeyed his lord in everything.

She was so close to him, yet so far away.

He is merely a clone, free from the constraints of his Zerg identity and genes, and without the memories of being Caesar; he possesses only an eternally loyal love for her.

Only by using his clone could he touch that distant, dazzling star.

He was loving her in Caesar's place.

Even though it was only for such a short time, he was content.

At least the time and memories he spent with Anunu belonged to him alone.

"Silly fish, you are Caesar."

Anno shifted, adjusting to a comfortable position to prepare for sleep.

She closed her eyes and murmured softly, "You'll understand later."

Mingxi gently stroked her cheek. "I understand, but Caesar would definitely want to be me even more."

Not just him, perhaps any clone would work, as long as it's not Caesar, a member of the Zerg.

Anno woke up in the cabin. The moment she woke up, looking at the seashells jingling in the wind above her head, she had the illusion that she had traveled back to the day before.

After a moment of stunned silence, she suddenly sat up in bed and then jumped off the bed.

How did she fall asleep!

Mingxi, he...

She had just run to the door when it was pushed open, and Mingxi stood in front of her, bathed in the morning light.

Golden light shone down on him, making his silver hair shine brilliantly. At that moment, she felt as if she had seen a god descend to earth.

Seeing him, she slowly breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully, Mingxi didn't seem to be asleep.

"woke up?"

Seeing that she was barefoot again, Mingxi picked her up with both hands and placed her on the edge of the bed. Just like yesterday, she wiped the dust off her feet and helped her put on her shoes.

Anno looked at the top of his head, trying hard to recall what had happened last night.

She remembered that she was in the Mermaid King's Palace, having dinner with Theodore and the others, and she couldn't resist drinking some wine.

Thinking of this, Anuo couldn't help but want to slap himself a couple of times.

How could she not hold back at such a crucial moment!

It's really strange, she's not usually someone who lacks self-control. Although she does really like alcohol, she still knows her limits when there's something important to do.

She slapped her forehead in frustration, filled with doubt.

She couldn't remember much about her drunkenness. The previous times she had been drunk, she had only been able to recall her drunken memories thanks to the Zerg's consciousness network. Now that the consciousness network was gone, she could only vaguely remember a few scattered fragments.

It seems she took Mingxi swimming in the sea for a while and they saw a lot of marine life.

besides......

And it seems they returned to that ancient kingdom that was submerged by the sea, and then I can't remember much more.

"Are you hungry? I've caught some food."

Mingxi's voice interrupted Anuo's thoughts.

“Mm.” Anno nodded.

Forget it, if I can't remember, I won't think about it anymore. It's good that Mingxi is still here.

My mother and the others will probably be here by tonight, so we can't afford any more mishaps.
