Chapter 416: A Shattered Life
After coming into contact with the man's consciousness, Anno felt a deep sense of powerlessness.
In that instant, she even felt that she could no longer save Caesar from his grasp.
The deep-seated pain in his mind surged towards her like a mountain and a sea, transforming into countless dense needles that pierced her consciousness.
She clutched her head in pain, and her body went limp as she collapsed to the ground.
A strong arm caught her, and the pain in Anunu's mind disappeared. She opened her eyes and looked at the person in front of her through teary eyes.
Zero Nine's deep blue eyes flashed with data and light, and the little cub's tearful face made his numb consciousness ache for a moment.
Anunu reached out and gently touched his face. "Don't kill Caesar, don't kill yourself."
Zero Nine glanced at Caesar, his voice mechanical: "He is not me."
After saying that, he threw Caesar out, with such force that it knocked down half of a house outside.
Anunu breathed a sigh of relief after seeing Zero Nine let Caesar go, but the next second, Sitar leaped high up from behind Zero Nine, his claws flashing silver in the night.
Sitar severed Zero Nine's arm, and his own claws were also injured and cracked, with fragments of his outer armor falling to the ground.
His tender little face was colder than the wind and snow outside. He seemed completely oblivious to the pain of his wounds as he struck Zero Nine down hard and plunged his other intact, sharp claw into Zero Nine's chest.
Sitar's overarms clamped tightly around Zero Nine's head, preparing to sever it as well.
Zero Nine stared blankly at Sitar, scrutinizing the little male insect king before him. He didn't attack, but instead turned to look at Anunu.
Anunu stood to the side watching them, probably still in shock, and blankly picked up his severed arm from the ground.
He picked up the fragments of Sitar's outer armor.
Those sparkling, translucent fragments were as beautiful as crystal.
She looked at them, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably.
Many chaotic memories played through her mind; she was Anunu, she was Anno.
At this moment, Anunu understood that her fate, Caesar's fate, and Sitar's fate were always intertwined.
Because of interstellar war, she was stolen, and her life and core were shattered as a result.
Caesar, on the other hand, repeatedly pushed his physical limits, creating countless clones and consciousnesses, cutting himself into countless pieces, all in order to find her and experience a life several times more painful than hers in the past.
Sitar is the embers of an era's glory, enduring countless years alone, waiting for a place that belongs to him.
Deep down, he was always uneasy.
He was uneasy that he couldn't be there for Anunu when he needed him most, uneasy about his untimely arrival, and uneasy that Anunu had better options.
The two people's emotions and consciousness are connected, and they are actually influencing each other.
A bad start has led to the current chaotic situation.
The three of them, like these shattered body parts, all had broken lives. She wanted to pick them up, to piece them back together, whether they were her own or theirs.
Anunu couldn't comfortably enjoy their love and solace, nor could she ignore their pain. She tried to slowly emerge from the safe haven within her heart and address the problem.
She watched as Zero Nine ripped Sitar off his body and threw him to the ground. When Sitar lunged at him again, he opened his intact hand, and an aura of energy gathered on his wrist. Sitar was stunned by the energy.
Anunu threw herself onto Sitar, protecting him with her small body.
Ling Jiu picked up the severed arm from the ground and reattached it. He bent down to hug Anunu, who held on tightly to Sitar and wouldn't let go. Ling Jiu then hoisted Sitar onto his shoulder as well.
And so, he led the two into the snowstorm and headed toward a certain direction on the plains.
At this moment, Mingxiao, who was lying in the treatment pod, received a dangerous signal from the consciousness network and woke up from her slumber.
Anunu was carried by Zero Nine as they raced across the plains for several minutes before stopping in front of a strangely shaped spaceship.
Just as Zero Nine was about to take her and Sitar onto the spaceship, a figure attacked him from the darkness. He dodged to the side, letting the sharp claws slash his back, and protected Anunu in his arms.
“Mingxiao!” Anunu looked over Lingjiu’s shoulder and saw Mingxiao’s signature red hair flying in the air.
"Your Highness, don't be afraid! I'm here to save you!"
Just as Mingxiao was about to launch his next attack on Lingjiu, the long sword he had just drawn from his waist suddenly stopped above Lingjiu's head when he saw Lingjiu's face.
"Vanguard Lord?!"
He had barely finished speaking when Ling Jiu kicked him away.
In the blink of an eye, Zero Nine had boarded the spaceship with Anunu and Sitar.
The spaceship started up quickly, and Mingxiao, regaining his senses, jumped onto the top of the spaceship, trying to stop them.
He still didn't understand why the Vanguard Lord had become like this. He knew this was the Vanguard Lord's clone, but no clone would look like this.
He couldn't let the two princes be taken away like that.
