Chapter Twelve: Black Medicine

Chapter Twelve: Black Medicine

Lying on a soft bed after a full meal like this is something she never dared to dream of before.

There was a dent next to her, and when she turned her head, she saw Huo Yin lying beside her. He looked at her with focused and gentle eyes, gently touched her face with his hand and then withdrew it, placing his tail on her body.

Watching his movements, Anuo smiled sleepily and thought about touching his cute face, but she was too sleepy. She moved her fingers slightly and then closed her eyes, quickly falling asleep.

But the band of light behind her ear followed her will and extended toward Huo Yin, covering his face.

Upon being touched by the band of light, Huo Yin was completely enveloped by Anuo's aura, and he even became cautious in his breathing.

After staring at her face for a while, Huo Yin gently held Anuo's light belt in his hand, moved closer to her, and closed his eyes.

Hicks watched as the two children lay asleep face to face, then went over and covered them with blankets. He watched as Huo Yin held Anno's light belt in his hand, looking at them with a surprised expression.

Previously, he would be very sensitive and wary to even touch her light band, but now he felt at ease letting Huo Yin hold the light band in his hand. This was because when they were in the petri dish factory, the little cub used energy to help Huo Yin stabilize his mental state, and the two had exchanged energy. That's why the little cub trusted Huo Yin even more. Of course, there was another reason, which might be that he was just a child himself.

Hicks turned off the room lights, leaving only a dim, yellowish light, and then slowly walked downstairs.

As soon as Hicks came downstairs, Mike and Apa came in from outside. As soon as they opened the door, a blizzard rushed in from outside. The two of them were almost pushed in by the wind. The old door, which no one knew how it could withstand the wind and snow, was slammed shut by Mike with a forceful push.

Mike saw Hicks coming downstairs and asked, "Is the little one asleep?"

Hicks: "Yeah, she must have been exhausted after all that traveling. She probably fell asleep after taking a shower to relax."

Mike brushed the snow off his clothes and said, "You're really amazing, Hicks. It's one thing to save beast and alien cubs, but you even managed to save a fire-breed cub."

Hicks: "I didn't rescue her; she was born in the petri dish facility in the Eastvale ruins."

Mike was stunned: "What? That petri dish facility over there has been abandoned for hundreds of years. How could it possibly have produced a Sparkling offspring?"

Hicks walked towards the door and said, "I don't know the reason right now; we'll just have to investigate further later."

Seeing that he was about to open the door again, Mike asked, "Are you going out?"

"Yes, my deal with the Owls has fallen through. Blackthorn has noticed something amiss. I'll go outside and keep watch. Call me when the little cub wakes up."

Having said that, he opened the door and stepped into the wind and snow.

“Boss, I’ll go with you too.” Apa quickly followed, and when he saw the huge gray wolf’s back in front, he also transformed into a beast, a slightly smaller white dog.

In the wind and snow, Hicks raised his wolf head and sniffed the air incessantly.

The cub had been bathed with the medicinal powder and then rubbed on its body twice more. In addition, Mike and Apa had sprinkled a lot of medicine powder on the outside to mask the smell, so the scent of the fire could no longer be smelled.

Hicks was still somewhat worried. He could no longer smell her scent, but he could still sense her faint energy fluctuations.

People with lower genetic levels have weaker perception abilities and cannot sense such faint energy, but on Casa, there are many people with high genetic levels.

These people basically rely on drugs and other items to improve their genetic level, and they are prone to mental mania and falling into madness at any time.

Currently, the best drugs for enhancing gene levels are those provided to the military by the federal government. These drugs have the fewest side effects, but they still accumulate. While federal drugs have the fewest side effects, they are not the fastest at enhancing genes; they are simply much more stable than those circulating on the black market.

Drugs that enhance gene levels can only be used with federal approval and are not allowed to be sold on the market. These drugs are called TG3, also known as black drugs, and are extremely expensive on the black market.

The Northern River system has too many people with low genetic levels, and in order to have greater power, even though the TG3 is expensive, it is still in short supply.

However, the side effects are irreversible and cannot be resolved by medication. The only solution is the purifying power of the fire.

The people on Casa are all vicious and ruthless; they'll do anything to get what they want.

Obtaining a source of fire for their own use has always been something they've wanted to do.

Hicks and Apah patrolled the watchtower vigilantly, while Anno slept soundly in his room.

When she woke up, it was already the next morning. The blizzard outside was even worse than the day before. She looked out the second-floor window and could see nothing but a hazy, white expanse of snow.

As soon as Anuo opened her eyes, she saw Huo Yin lying next to her, looking at her. His long flaxen hair was spread out on the pillow, supporting his delicate face, making him look as pretty as a little girl. However, his eyebrows and eyes were sharp, carrying a kind of sharpness that suppressed this delicateness, giving people a feeling that he was very unapproachable.

She propped herself up and sat up in bed, and saw several children on the other small beds looking at her.

The girl named Tuka, who had bathed her yesterday, was lying by her bedside, not sleeping in her own bed. Her two fluffy black and white tails were placed beside her, occasionally brushing against her body.

As soon as she woke up, she immediately opened her eyes and looked at her, her tail wagging incessantly beside her.

Anno's gaze was drawn to the tail behind her. In the post-apocalyptic world she lived in, there were quite a few people with genetic mutations, though they were relatively few.

Looking at the children who had animal forms, she thought that the people in this world must all have a mixture of animal genes.

She looked at Tuka's black and white tail, not knowing what kind of animal it was.

However, looking at the pair of pointed ears on her head, she does look a bit like a fox.

Seeing Tuka's big, blinking eyes looking at him, Anno reached out and touched her tail.

When she touched it, Tuka's ears twitched violently, and then it put both of its tails into her hands, its eyes seeming to say: Touch it now!

"If the little one likes its tail, pet it a few more times!"

Looking at Tuka's adorable appearance, Anno smiled slightly and stroked her fluffy tail a few more times.

Huo Yin, standing to the side, looked at Tuka with a cold gaze, but seeing Anuo touching Kaixin, he did not stop Tuka from getting closer as he had done before.
