Chapter Twenty: The Chess Game
Hearing Hicks's words and seeing his cold and ruthless expression, Lu Sien's doubts about him gradually dissipated.
Everyone on Casa was a desperate outlaw. Although Hicks claimed he wanted to monopolize the Fireseed Cubs, he cleared himself of suspicion of being an undercover agent.
Although Hicks and Lu Sien had a fairly good relationship, they would turn against each other if their interests were threatened. Their relationship wasn't good enough for them to share a Fire Seed cub. It was precisely because Lu Sien understood this that he didn't continue to suspect him, because they were the same kind of people.
Lu Sien scoffed, "How pathetic, Hicks. You want to monopolize the Fire Seed cubs, but you don't even know if you can handle it."
Hicks wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and said coldly, "Help me get it back, and I'll consider sharing the Fire Seed Cub with you."
Lu Si'en drew his weapon, his smile vanishing: "It's not a matter of consideration, it's a necessity."
"cough......"
A soft cough broke the solemn atmosphere, drawing everyone's attention.
When Lokin saw the cub coughing even in its sleep, his eyes darkened, and he gripped the knife in his hand even tighter.
Anuo wasn't sleeping soundly. After coughing once, she started coughing intermittently. Wu Sui picked her up and gently patted her back to help her catch her breath.
Hicks' heart clenched when he heard her cough. He had just seen the Blackthorn corpses scattered on the ground and smelled the blood on Tuka and the others. He knew they must have been intercepted by the Blackthorn. He couldn't imagine what would have happened to the cub if his mother hadn't arrived in time.
He discovered that the cub's energy was very weak. He could sense her energy even from a great distance before, but now he could hardly sense it at all.
She must have used her own energy to support Apa and the others. He had seen her use energy when they were in the petri dish factory; she knows how to mobilize energy.
Thinking of this, Hicks felt a burning rage in his heart, but his eyes were icy cold, and the veins on his hand gripping the long sword bulged, the force almost crushing the sword.
No other sparkling cub has ever been forced to use its energy at such a young age, and almost completely depleted.
Blackthorn, he must destroy it!
Lu Sien gave the fire seed cub a deep look, then drew his sword and charged at Lokin with Hicks. His beast-type subordinates also rushed fiercely toward the others, their target the fire seed cub in Wu Sui's arms.
With one arm around Anuo, Wu Sui raised the other hand and aimed it at the charging beasts. A blue light shone from his hand, gradually expanding and gathering energy waves in the air, knocking all the beasts to the ground.
They quickly got up from the ground and continued to attack Wu Sui. The blue light in Wu Sui's hand spun, forming a protective force field around them. After the Black Thorn members were knocked away by this protective force field, they all stopped and lingered outside the shield.
In this icy wilderness, these beasts mostly rely on their animal form's power, which makes it easier for them to attack. However, against the Wu Sui, which possesses military technology, their attacks with various energy guns are useless.
Only the energy generated within their bodies can break through his shield.
Several beasts gathered together, their eyes flashing with an eerie light, and invisible energy emanating from their bodies, rippling towards the shield like waves in water.
The blue light in Wu Sui's hand gradually dimmed due to the energy attack, and the shield that enveloped them disappeared.
In the Northern River system, the genetic abilities and unique energies generated by each race are the source of their power, enabling them to contend with technological weapons.
After suppressing Wu Sui's energy ring, the Black Thorn men roared and pounced on him.
Huo Yin and Tuka tried to step forward, but Wu Sui blocked them with a hand gesture, his voice indifferent, "I'll do it."
These are all children; he should be protecting them, not the other way around.
With a blank expression, Wu Sui extended a blue-glowing blade from his hand. As a beast lunged at him, he nimbly lifted Anuo into the air, spun around, and extended the blade in his hand, severing the beast's head completely.
Fearing that blood would splatter on Huozhong, he stepped back, then raised his sword and continued to attack them, nimbly weaving between the beasts. Two minutes later, the beasts following Lu Si'en fell to the ground.
Because he was still holding the Fire Seed Cub in one hand, he didn't dare to move too freely, otherwise he could deal with these small fry much faster.
Wu Sui flicked the blood off his blade, wiped it on the fur of a black dog, and then retracted the blade into his armor.
He looked at Luo Jin and the others. The wind and snow had subsided a bit, and he could clearly see the three of them fighting fiercely.
To make the performance more realistic, Hicks used almost all his strength to attack his mother. Lu Sien's strength was almost equal to Hicks's. Among the minor leaders of Black Thorn, he and Hicks were the strongest, second only to the leader.
Even so, Locke handled the two of them with ease.
Lu Si'en's expression turned serious as he watched his men being killed in such a short time.
Just then, a roar came from overhead. Lu Sien looked up and saw three ships bearing Federation markings descending in their direction.
Lu Sien initially thought that the Federation had only sent a few people, and although the woman leading them was strong, he and Hicks could put up a fight together. However, it turned out that he had underestimated the woman and the man holding the fire seed.
They judged the strength of the other party based on the energy they sensed, but it was clear that these two were hiding their energy; their actual energy was even stronger than what they sensed.
Seeing the support ships approaching overhead, Lu Sien knocked Locke back with a heavy blow, then grabbed Hicks's arm and pulled him back, shouting, "Let's go!"
Hicks shook off his arm and tried to continue attacking Lockin, but Lu Sien stepped forward and pinned him down. "Their reinforcements are here. Do you want to lose your life here?"
"She's mine!"
Hicks looked like a demon, his eyes bloodshot, on the verge of a mental breakdown.
"If you fucking die here, how are we supposed to retrieve the fire?"
Lu Sien transformed back into his beast form and bit Hicks, preparing to forcibly take him away.
Hicks, half-dragged and half-pulled by him, had no choice but to transform into a giant wolf with a resentful expression, preparing to leave with Lu Sien.
Just as they were about to turn around, Locke flashed in front of them, holding his knife horizontally in front of them, "You think you can just leave after you've come all this way?"
Hicks and Luce bared their teeth and growled at Lokin. Lokin looked at the wounds on Hicks' body, took a slow breath, and knew she needed to add one last bit of fuel to the fire.
She raised her sword and slashed at Lu Sien. Lu Sien rolled to the side to dodge her attack and tried to turn and escape, but Luo Jin quickly appeared beside him, and the long sword that gleamed with golden light slashed towards him.
