Chapter 264: Energy Loss
Anno slept in Sital's arms all night.
The next day when Dennis came in, Anno sat obediently on the stool, just as he had seen on the monitor, and did not pay any attention to Sital.
No matter what Sitar said to her, she ignored him and treated him coldly.
He reached out to touch her, but she pushed him away expressionlessly.
"Aloo is so good, don't you want to be with him?"
Dennis walked up to Anno, reached out and stroked her head, coaxing, "Don't you like his energy?"
Anno looked at Dennis with a confused expression.
After a long while, she looked at Sitar, and a wisp of energy condensed in her hand. A faint energy light shone between her and Sitar, forming a long line that connected the two of them.
Dennis kept giving her various hints in her mind, telling her that Sitar was the one who stole the Brightman Core, that she should help him get it back, and that Brightman was the most important person to her, the one she loved.
Anno is not under Dennis's control, but he can sense Dennis's thoughts in his mind.
Actually, Dennis doesn't need to go through all that trouble. He can control a person and make that person do whatever he wants.
He did all this for Brightman, hoping that Anno could get along well with Brightman in the future and that she would fall in love with him. So he implanted some thoughts into her mind, and these thoughts subtly influenced her. Over time, she would subconsciously believe that Brightman was the one she loved. She would gradually forget that she was the little queen insect of the insect race and would only remember that she was the spark of the North River system and Brightman's future queen.
They thought that by changing the core, she would fall in love with Brightman.
They believed that without their core, the Zerg were nothing, a race simply dominated by their genes.
The Zerg civilization is far more complex than they imagined.
It is this unbroken tradition from ancient times to the present that has given them their unique beliefs; the Zerg believe in the soul.
While the Zerg are indeed genetically controlled, it's not as outsiders imagine.
Before forming an egg, the King Worm first develops a soul consciousness to ensure that it can be born, and then forms an egg.
This cannot be explained by any technology or genetics.
Before birth, the queen insect and the young male king insect are matched with the most compatible souls. Some queen insects cannot be matched with the most suitable young male king insects, so the young male king insects will not be born at all.
I'd rather not have a soul that resonates with me than have one.
But countless family members will still love them.
The Queen is always the most important being of the Zerg, a love that no one else can match and that outsiders cannot understand.
Unlike other ethnic groups, they don't have to go through trial and error in falling in love, experiencing countless loves and hates, or searching for many years in the vast sea of people just to find the person they love and who is a good match for them.
The king cricket and the young male king cricket omit these steps.
The core is indeed important to the Ohmu, but it is not the only thing that represents their identity and soul.
Even without the core, the Ohmu is still an Ohmu. However, the core stores the Ohmu's most important energy, acting like a heart, and affects their lifespan and abilities.
Even if others obtain the core and install it on themselves, they can only obtain energy from the core and possess superhuman abilities under its operation, but it cannot change their identity.
Conversely, those who acquire the core will also be influenced by it and develop a special emotional dependence on the core's owner.
Dennis's desire to transplant Sital's core into Brightman doesn't change anything.
Over the years, their understanding of the Zerg has been limited to the core of Anno.
In the past, they had only obtained the core of one King Worm, Anno. The core of the Fire Seed King Worm is completely different from the core of the King Worm.
This led to cognitive biases among them.
This cognitive bias is also Anno's best weapon against Dennis.
In fact, compared to other civilizations, Dennis and his group were probably the ones who knew the most about the Zerg, but that was still far from enough.
In the past, the Zerg did not like to interact with other civilizations, and even their language is not yet fully developed in interstellar space.
When communicating with other allies, Seville primarily used the common interstellar language.
The Zerg are accustomed to communicating through the consciousness network and rarely speak. Furthermore, the Zerg are not members of the Interstellar Federation, which means that their language cannot be recorded even between interstellar entities.
The Zerg's consciousness network allows them to learn from each other and receive the legacy of their ancestors.
If Sylvanas knows the common language of interstellar space, then the entire Zerg race will know the common language. This is the most powerful aspect of the Zerg race.
They can learn different kinds of knowledge and then pass it on to other relatives through the network of consciousness.
Dennis led Anno and Sitar to the petri dish factory. The bloodstones he had placed in various interstellar locations had formed a large net, and it would be time to close the net in the next couple of days.
His enhanced humans should all wake up by now.
Although he controlled the enhanced humans' consciousness, their energy was very unstable. Aloo's purification ability could help stabilize them, allowing him to control them better.
Sital was shackled with energy-suppressing shackles by Dennis and locked in a controlled petri dish. Beside this petri dish was Brightman, who had been prepared long ago.
With his eyes closed, the almost solidified energy in the petri dish transformed into wisps of mist, suspending him within it.
Anno thought to herself, no wonder Brightman didn't come to see her all night; it turns out he was already making preparations here.
Anno glanced at Sitar, then lowered his eyes to avoid Dennis noticing anything amiss.
Inside the factory, many researchers were busy adjusting the machines.
They were preparing to extract Sital's core and transfer it to Brightman.
After the researchers confirmed that the equipment was in place, Dennis looked at Anno beside him and said, "Aloo, let's begin. Guide the core out."
Anno looked at Sitar, who was reassuring her in her mind, putting her at ease.
The core cannot be removed. What Anno needs to do is connect with the core of Sital, and the energy generated can break through the shielding and suppression of their consciousness that Dennis has set up in this base.
Anno calmed himself down and drew out the core's original energy, connecting it with Sitar.
The moment their core energies connected, Anno sensed the fragments of her core.
There are three core fragments in this base. One is on Brightman and one is on Starfire. The other one has already been obtained by Mingxiao and Tanwell.
Dennis will soon discover that his control is useless against them; he is just overconfident in his abilities and not that stupid.
Therefore, regardless of whether Anno and Sitar can break through the base's shield, they have to prepare to run away.
The progress bar on the instrument in front of Sital's culture dish was moving forward little by little. This was Sital's core and container adapting. Once it reached 100%, his core would be removed from the container and then enter Brightman's body.
This is a plan that Dennis and his team came up with in the past few days. Since they can't preserve the core of Sital separately, they'll just transplant it directly onto Brightman.
While the core was still being guided, Dennis had Anno awaken the enhanced human first.
This was exactly what Anno wanted; she expanded her purification ability to the maximum, and the energy instantly covered the entire petri dish factory.
At this moment, Anno realized that when she used her ability, the energy in her core was slowly leaking out from the hollow inside the core.
This is the impact of the absence of a core subject on her.
Previously, she hardly needed to use any energy on the main planet. Even if she did use a little energy, there were minerals all around her that could replenish her energy. The entire planet was a giant energy stone that would replenish her energy at any time. So, with a piece missing from the core, it was impossible to see what the impact on her would be.
Now that she's in a different place, without the environment and conditions to provide her with energy, the impact of her core deficiency has become apparent.
There are thousands of enhanced humans in the entire factory. If she were to purify them all, the energy would overflow as she uses it. Since she currently has no energy ore to replenish it, it would consume all the energy she has stored. She dares not use the original energy at this time, for fear of reacting with the core fragments and causing the original energy to overflow, which would be troublesome.
She thought for a moment and decided that instead of using her purification abilities, she could awaken them using only energy, which wouldn't consume much energy.
Even if she doesn't wake up these enhanced humans, Dennis can wake them all up simply by pressing the operation button on the main controller in his hand.
What Dennis wanted was Anno's purification ability.
Today he is going to awaken these enhanced humans and then board a warship to carry out his plan.
Her ability can also suppress the enhanced person's consciousness for a moment, giving them time to escape.
As Anno watched the progress bar for Sitar draw closer, her palms sweated as she began to use her energy to awaken these enhanced individuals one by one.
