Chapter 3 Showdown

Qin San Niang only agreed on the surface, but in her heart she was thinking more and more about finding a carriage. Not to mention Liu Shi and the baby, even she herself couldn't stand it. At their speed, which was slow for the old, weak and disabled, it would be good if they could reach the south in half a year.

If, by sheer bad luck, they were to encounter barbarians or bandits, they wouldn't even be able to run away and would simply be slaughtered on the spot.

As for the money to buy the car?! She wasn't worried. She could sell the grains, salt, and sugar in the supermarket for money. As long as she did it discreetly, she believed no one would suspect anything!

After walking for about an hour, Qin Sanniang was too exhausted to walk any further. She didn't know what kind of straw sandals they were made of, but they were digging painfully into her heels; she was afraid they would wear her feet off. Looking at the large beads of sweat on Liu's face, and the children's rosy cheeks, it was truly heartbreaking.

The youngest child, A-Nan, was occasionally carried on the back of the eldest brother, while her mother and grandmother carried the grain and other luggage. At an age when she should have been nestled in her mother's arms, she was sensible enough not to make any demands. Right now, she was asleep on her eldest brother's back.

"Alright, everyone stop and rest for a while. We've been walking for quite a while now."

"Hey." Following the direction her eldest daughter pointed, Liu saw a small grove of trees ahead, with plenty of shady spots.

Upon arriving at their destination, eight-year-old Erwa quickly took a mat from his basket and laid it on the ground so his older brother could easily put his younger sister down. Worried that the mat was too stiff, Qin Sanniang then rummaged through her own clothes and laid them on top. The clothes were patched upon patched; she wondered if they were even still wearable!

Looking at the clothes her family members were wearing, they were all made of coarse hemp cloth, and the hemp cloth had become stiff because it hadn't been washed for a long time. It was really uncomfortable to wear. Fortunately, the original owner was thick-skinned and used to it. If it were the old Qin Jiangqiu, he definitely wouldn't have been used to it!

"Mother, what are you doing?" Da Wa asked curiously when he saw his mother starting to gather firewood again. They had just drunk wild vegetable porridge, and it was quite thick. He was worried that they wouldn't have anything to eat next.

"Boil the water before drinking." Knowing that the older children probably wouldn't understand, he patiently explained, "This water has to be boiled before you can drink it, otherwise it's not clean and will easily cause a stomachache." He knew the older children wouldn't understand about parasites and microorganisms in the water, but they probably would understand if he said it would cause a stomachache.

Sure enough, after hearing this, the children fell silent. Stomach aches are terrible; in the past, there were babies in the village who died from stomach aches and were abandoned by their parents.

As for Madam Liu, she knew that her eldest daughter was naturally a clean person, just like when she was a young lady at home, she insisted on embroidering a flower on her sleeve. You see, at that age, seven or eight-year-old girls used their sleeves to wipe their noses!

Um, they're really not the same!

Even if Qin San Niang knew what the children were thinking, she wouldn't explain. She was currently figuring out how to start a fire and had to ask the waiter who had helped her earlier for help.

"Mother, I'll start a fire for you." With that, she took out a flint, tinder, and a steel flint, and with a flurry of movements, she quickly got the fire going!

Fearing that others would notice something amiss, Qin Sanniang could only secretly learn from the corner of her eye while working. Starting a fire was quite difficult, seemingly no easier than making fire by rubbing sticks together. Where was the tinderbox?! And what dynasty was this?!

After the boiled water has cooled, it can be poured into the gourd. The water cools slowly in this weather, which is a good time to rest.

"Mother, it's too hot right now. I'm afraid the children will get heatstroke. Let's cool off for a while before we leave. We can rest a little later!" Actually, she was tired and didn't want to leave. She also wanted to take advantage of the rest time to go to the supermarket to see what they had.

Liu was somewhat anxious. Yesterday, her eldest daughter had fallen ill, causing them to lag far behind the refugees ahead. Being alone at this point was dangerous, wasn't it? Liu didn't understand the dangers, but she had seen lone birds and geese before; they were easily caught and eaten by eagles. But seeing how exhausted her children were, and her eldest grandson carrying her daughter on his back, she was truly heartbroken. It was a pity her legs weren't fully healed; walking for long periods caused her severe pain, otherwise she could have helped them share some of the burden.

"You and the kids should get some rest. I just slept."

"Okay, Mother, just call me if you need anything. I'll get up and pour the water when it boils."

"I know."

...

The supermarket was indeed the place she had left in, and it was fully stocked with all kinds of goods. This made Qin San Niang very happy. She just didn't know if it could be replenished automatically, but that didn't matter. Even if it was, it would be enough for her family to get through the difficult years.

Feeling intensely thirsty, Qin San Niang grabbed a bottle of lemon juice and drank it. It was so refreshing and thirst-quenching. She then went to the cooked food section and ate a large meat bun, feeling incredibly satisfied.

Perhaps because she had food in her stomach, Qin Sanniang suddenly remembered that when her soul was wandering in the sky, she seemed to hear a reporter explaining that the basement of this supermarket was a small armory, probably belonging to a spy organization from Country A...

Her heart pounded with excitement. If this were the case, Qin San Niang felt her transmigrated life would become even more perfect. Although she wasn't a special agent, and aside from her rudimentary martial arts skills, she wasn't a sharpshooter, she had things that others lacked!

But how do I get to the basement? Before she could even react, the scene changed instantly, and Qin San Niang found herself standing right in the middle of the basement.

She was shocked when she saw the wall full of firearms. What did they have? Besides pistols, automatic rifles, and submachine guns, there were also crossbows, daggers, and broadswords. Various grenades, smoke bombs, and other small explosives were laid out on the ground.

The naive Qin San Niang happily picked up an automatic pistol and examined it. For now, this was the only type she knew how to use, and for this era, this thing alone was quite lethal! She wondered if the ammunition could be replenished repeatedly; if so, it would undoubtedly become a great help to her journey through this other world.

When Qin San Niang woke up, she saw that the children were still asleep, so she didn't wake them. She decided to have a heart-to-heart talk with Liu Shi, since taking the supermarket items out of the supermarket required a suitable cover person and a proper reason, and her own mother naturally became the best candidate.
