Chapter 6 Returning to My Mother's Home Empty-Handed

"What?" Su Cheng looked up at him with a smile, "It's just that the wild cat is barking outside, why should I go out?"

Xie Suzhou opened his mouth, then silently swallowed the words that were about to come out of his mouth, and buried his head in washing the pots and dishes.

After cleaning up the kitchen, Su Cheng shook the water droplets off his hands and walked towards his original body's room.

As soon as she pushed the door open, she caught a glimpse of a bowl of scrambled eggs on the windowsill outside. All the wild onions in it had been picked out, but they were still warm.

There was a sound of a door closing from the kitchen opposite. Su Cheng turned around and saw Xie Suzhou was about to walk out the door.

Xie Suzhou also saw her, glanced secretly at the bowl of scrambled eggs, and moved faster.

"Suzhou!" Su Cheng called him.

Xie Suzhou had never heard her call him so intimately before. Even when she was standing in front of him in cool clothes, she called him by his name.

He subconsciously stopped and looked at her with some surprise.

The moonlight was dim, and Su Cheng didn't notice the strangeness in his eyes. She just asked with concern, "It's so late, where are you going?"

"There's no room at home, so I'm going back to the academy." Xie Suzhou answered truthfully, his expression calm and indifferent.

"I think it's going to rain soon. Silang hasn't come back yet, so you can sleep in his bed and squeeze in with Sanlang." Su Cheng looked up at the sky with a worried tone, looking like a caring elder sister-in-law.

The wind was indeed cooler, rustling the leaves on the tree in front of the door.

Xie Suzhou pondered for a moment and agreed to her suggestion.

As he turned around, he glanced at the west wall of the courtyard and saw a piece of his clothes tucked in.

In the middle of the night, there were lightning and thunder, and the rain suddenly fell, and the whole village was shrouded in rain.

The rain was getting heavier. Su Cheng was lying on the bamboo bed. She could vaguely hear the sound of the Liu family next door clamoring to collect clothes. She tossed and turned, not feeling sleepy at all, her mind full of thoughts about the land that her original body had given away.

She had to break into the Su family, as there was bound to be a fierce battle tomorrow.

A "click" sound pulled Su Cheng out of her thoughts. She half-raised herself and looked outside the house with a frown.

The raindrops hit the window paper, making it impossible to see what's outside.

The sound was very light, not like raindrops, but more like someone accidentally stepping on a branch.

Su Cheng was worried, so he put on a coat and got out of bed. He lay down by the door with his shoes on and looked outside through the gap in the door.

The next moment, a pair of eyes with white lower limbs also pressed against the door.

"Ah!" Su Cheng was so frightened that he took a few steps back, his lower back against the edge of the table, and his coat slipped off his shoulders. "There's a thief! Xie Suzhou, help me!"

The door of the opposite house was suddenly pulled open, and the door panel slammed heavily against the wall. Xie Suzhou rushed to the man regardless of the rain.

Xie Suzhou is a weak scholar, so he probably has little chance of winning against the bandits.

Su Cheng decisively picked up a solid stool beside her, opened the door, and walked forward, holding the stool high while shouting, "You dare to steal on me? Are you tired of living?"

When the wooden stool in her hand was about to fall, a silver snake-like lightning split the sky, illuminating the faces of the three people in the yard.

"Song Gang?" Xie Suzhou grabbed his collar. Seeing his expression, he loosened his grip a little, and a trace of anger appeared on his handsome face. "You took advantage of the night to sneak into my house. What are you planning?"

"What else could I be thinking?" Song Gang struggled to get up, straightened his wrinkled collar, and set his eyes on Su Cheng openly, "Of course it's because..."

"Go to hell, rapist!"

Su Cheng was afraid that he would say something he shouldn't in front of Xie Suzhou, so he hit him with a stool without hesitation, and the stool leg hit him on the head. Song Gang suddenly saw stars and fell to the ground with his head covered.

"You..." Xie Suzhou glared at her, a hint of helplessness flashing in his eyes. He squatted down and pointed at her, "Fortunately, she's still breathing."

Su Cheng curled his lips and hugged the round stool in his arms. "It's no good for anyone to have such a rapist in the village. He might as well be dead."

"You want to go to jail if you smash him to death?" Xie Suzhou sighed softly, his eyes fixed on Song Gang, his expression gradually darkening. "We really can't let him do whatever he wants anymore..."

The rain soaked most of Su Cheng's clothes. Her already thin inner garment was now completely stuck to her body, outlining her beautiful curves.

Xie Suzhou only took one look and quickly turned his head away, a blush spreading from his ears to his face. "I'm going to go find Uncle Liu next door, and together we'll drag him to the Song family. You go back to your room and rest. Don't worry about the rest."

"Okay, you go early and come back early." Su Cheng trotted to the courtyard wall, took off the hanging straw raincoat, and handed it to him. Because of her action, the inner garment fit better.

Xie Suzhou couldn't help but feel lucky that it was late at night and no one could see his ripe face. He hurriedly took the raincoat and went to the next yard.

Su Cheng hid back in the house and took off his wet underwear. After a while, he heard Uncle Liu angrily scolding Song Gang.

Su Cheng didn't lie down until his long hair was completely dry. He thought he would have trouble sleeping after the shock, but he fell asleep as soon as he touched the pillow and slept until dawn.

-

The next morning, after a heavy rain, the dirt road in the village became muddy and difficult to walk on.

Su Cheng stood in front of the courtyard gate waiting for the ox cart. She asked Aunt Liu carefully and learned that it only cost one copper coin to take the ox cart to her original mother's hometown, Sujiazhuang.

"Where are you going now?"

Su Cheng turned around when he heard the voice and saw Sanlang Xie Jinyu leaning against the door as if he had no bones, with his long hair loose and only tied with two strips of cloth at the end. He was wearing a coarse linen shirt, had a tall figure, and looked very handsome with just his face.

It has to be said that all the sons of the Xie family are very handsome. Although she has not seen Xie Silang in person, the second and third sons are so handsome, so the fourth son must be not much worse.

"Are you up? Are you feeling okay?" Su Cheng smiled politely at him and pointed at the ox cart that was almost approaching the Xie family's gate. "I'm going to Sujiazhuang. You don't have to wait for me for lunch."

Xie Jinyu lowered her eyes and looked at her empty hands. She couldn't help but feel strange. "You're just going there empty-handed?"

"What else?" Su Cheng nodded as a matter of course, his tone sincere, "I'm going to ask for something, not to give it to someone."

Xie Jinyu pulled the corner of his mouth, and a scornful laugh escaped from his lips.

Su Cheng pursed his lips, a flicker of embarrassment flashing across his face. "I know you don't trust me, but let's see what I can accomplish today."

After saying that, she handed a copper coin to the uncle pulling the ox cart and climbed onto the cart.

Watching the ox cart go away, Xie Jinyu calmly withdrew his gaze, turned sideways to look at Xie Chen who had been standing in the yard for a long time, and said in a gentle tone, "Go and see if there is anything missing from the house."

The ox cart swayed away from Xinghua Village, and within two quarters of an hour, it saw a stone tablet with the three big characters "Sujiazhuang" engraved on it.

"Xie's daughter-in-law, here we are."

Su Cheng got off the cart and politely thanked his uncles and aunts. He waited until the ox cart drove away before looking back at the two houses behind him.

At this moment, a young woman came out of the house carrying a wooden basin. Seeing Su Cheng standing outside the yard, she was stunned at first, and then her eyes flashed with brilliance. She quickly put the wooden basin aside and said, "Hey, what wind blew my sister back?"

As soon as she walked out of the yard, she saw Su Cheng with empty hands. The smile on her face froze for a moment, and her tone instantly rose, "Su Cheng! You came back empty-handed?"
