Chapter 134 (Not waiting...)
Before Nezha could answer, a sudden change occurred ahead.
Peipei, who had been a "child-granting fairy" in the haystacks for years, was well-known to the residents of the outer circle. Although her appearance wasn't the most outstanding in town, clothes make the man, and the clothes Pingyu dressed them in were exquisite and beautiful, even surpassing those of the wealthy daughters of the city. The residents of the outer circle were poor, but they would occasionally come to the city center to buy household items. Passersby frequently turned to look at the mother and child, and one of the outer circle residents noticed something was amiss. After scrutinizing them for a moment, he finally recognized Peipei.
"Fairy, fairy!"
The thug laughed, and the farmer shouted, "Who offered you this golden robe?"
The surrounding spectators erupted in laughter, dozens of hands pointing and gesturing. Peipei couldn't see faces, but she could imagine countless chilling currents of air pointing at her, drilling into her. She instinctively huddled together, but as she stepped back, she suddenly remembered Xiaoniba was there too. She frantically covered the girl's ears, crying out anxiously, "Ah...ah..."
Peipei hurriedly bent down and shielded the child in her arms.
The conversation was forced to pause, and Pingyu stepped forward: "Go help them!"
Before her feet even touched the ground, a pulling force drew her into his arms.
Pingyu looked up in a daze.
Nezha pulled her into his arms and silently shook his head.
As the crowd grew larger, Little Mudball's bewilderment turned to fury. She bared her fangs, her pupils narrowed to pinpoints, and a fox-like appearance began to emerge. The moment she was blocked, Pingyu saw those fierce, gleaming red eyes.
She felt her heart clench, and Nezha pushed through the crowd, making her stand on the outer circle. Little Mud's voice rang out, shrill and piercing: "What do you want!"
People laughed and reached out to pull at you: "We just wanted to ask which believer gave you this outfit, and whose incense do you receive?"
The words had barely left his lips when the speaker felt a blur before his eyes. He fell to the ground, pinned beneath the child. Knowing she was going to die the next day, Little Muddy was completely disregarded. She grabbed the man's collar, "You little bastard, all you ever talk about is food! I'll give you a good punch first!" A powerful punch, imbued with demonic energy, slammed into the man's face, forcing him to turn his head away and spit out a mouthful of blood-stained teeth. No one had expected this skinny child wearing a tiger head to be so ferocious, possessing such immense strength.
Peipei, for some reason, crouched down and groped around. She touched the fine sand, the pebbles, until she came across the bloody, mangled tooth. The blind girl seemed to mistake it for her child's tooth, and tears suddenly streamed down her face. Hearing the crying, the surroundings slowly quieted down. Their gazes were somewhat averted, as if they felt ashamed because of the blind girl's weeping. The crowd gradually dispersed, making room for the mother and daughter. Little Mud stopped her bloodied fist, her gaze shifting between the man beneath her and the weeping mute mother, as if in thought. Pingyu couldn't bear it and wanted to step forward several times. But Nezha pulled her back with a strong grip.
A moment later, the little mud started to move.
Pingyu saw that she had grabbed Peipei's hand and forcefully pulled her mother, who was half-squatting on the ground, up.
Peipei stumbled in panic, but her daughter caught her just before she fell to the ground. Usually, it was Xiaoniba who rebelled when things went wrong; even if Peipei was dissatisfied, she only dared to shield her daughter like a layer of mud, letting out hoarse cries. Xiaoniba thought, what would happen to Peipei's mother if she were gone? So gentle and frail, if she didn't have a fiery temper, even if her eyes recovered, she wouldn't be able to live well here.
She wanted to take this opportunity to make Pepe taste the flavor of retaliation.
Thinking of this, Little Muddy clenched Peipei's hand into a fist and said, "Mother."
Pepe frantically touched her hair, cheeks, and mouth. The girl shook her head: "I'm not hurt."
Peipei shook her head, her words stammering helplessly. Little Muddy pulled her hand down, as if she wouldn't give up until Peipei swung it. Little Muddy repeated over and over, "He's bad, Mother! He bullies me, he bullies us, we have to hit him!"
When Peipei heard that Little Mud had been bullied, she paused. Her lifeless eyes glanced around, reflecting the myriad expressions of those around her like a bronze mirror. Everyone saw their own face and, not wanting to reveal a gloating expression, chimed in to defend themselves, trying to distance themselves from the man on the ground: "Yes! He even bullies that widow's family, he's a real scoundrel."
"Hit him! Hit him! This kind of person is morally corrupt; keeping him around is just asking for trouble!"
"Girls, little girls, don't be afraid. We've got everyone here to support you. Fight with all your might!"
The malice from before was all directed at those around them. They tried to use words to push Peipei's hand away, as if by venting her violence, the others who spoke would be acquitted. All that malice and goodwill came from the same group of people, leaving Peipei somewhat bewildered. Little Mud clicked its tongue in disgust and tugged at its mute mother, saying, "Mother, don't hit him just because they told us to. We hit him because others bullied us. If we're bullied, we should bully them back."
“I’m a dog. When I’m here, if anyone bullies you, I’ll bite back for you. But what if I’m not here?” She affectionately pressed her fist against her mute mother’s. “A dog’s life isn’t as long as a human’s; it will leave first. What will you do then if no one bites back for you? Mother, you also need to sharpen your bones more…” She sighed, and halfway through her words, she found Pingyu hiding in the crowd, casting a pleading look at her. The girl’s last words were slowly uttered: “You also need to have teeth that bite hard.”
In that instant, Peipei understood what Little Mud meant.
She couldn't speak, she could only keep making gestures:
She hugged the little mud ball tightly.
At this moment, the arms wrapped around Ping Yu loosened. Nezha whispered, "It's time."
"What are you going to do?" Pingyu asked.
Nezha's intention in making her stand aside was a calculated move to teach Peipei to fight back, since he couldn't very well step in and help her beat someone up.
Moreover...
She glanced at the ground, where the man who was pinned down was covered in blood, and a few teeth with bits of flesh hanging precariously from his half-open mouth.
I feel like he'll die if I hit him a few more times...
Nezha said, "Go up and admit your identity. Then..."
He paused, glancing at the man on the ground: "Don't let him really die."
Clearly, Nezha also felt that killing someone in public would be very troublesome.
So the small group of people who were still discussing the matter were finally pushed aside. Nezha and Pingyu pretended to be anxious, and when they saw Xiaoniba, they feigned surprise and asked, "What happened to you two?"
Peipei gestured a couple of times, afraid that Pingyu would blame Xiaoniba. The girl shook her head and said to Pingyu, "Miss, this person said our clothes were stolen, given to us by our lover, and he's trying to steal them from us!"
Miss?
All eyes were on Ping and Yu.
The two men looked unfamiliar, but they certainly exuded an air of authority. When did such people arrive in this town? Ping Yu feigned arrogance, pointing a finger: "What lovers? I bought their clothes! Do you mean I'm their mistress? That's absurd!"
She then said to Peipei, "This dress is worth ten taels of silver. Peipei, hit him! Look at his face, how many ten taels can he withstand!"
