Chapter 39 Something's happened to Dad!
The originally menacing dark clouds on the horizon were suddenly put on pause.
The moment Nezha finished speaking, the Thunder God and Lightning Goddess looked down.
As the drums and nails were put away, the dark clouds, as if being chased, scattered in the blink of an eye.
Is it the Earth God, or the Land God?
The calm-looking boy in front of me was starkly contrasted with the charred remains of the Earth God, who had been struck by lightning.
Ping Yu's pupils trembled, and he bent down tentatively, saying, "You..."
Before he could finish speaking, the other person exhaled a ring of gray-black smoke.
The charcoal in front of him trembled, and Nezha shielded the shocked girl from view. Under their gaze, the charred mass cracked, and a brightly dressed old man jumped out like a bursting chestnut kernel.
Immortals are truly extraordinary.
Why?
"Because the mountains here are rich in spiritual energy," the local earth god replied. "There are many spirits and demons here, and it would be bad to needlessly diminish their cultivation."
The old man lowered his voice nervously as he said this, "You're going to be in trouble."
"I don't come here often either."
The boy didn't seem to care and instead said, "Since you're here, I have something to ask you."
Pingyu watched the two interact with curiosity the whole time.
Is this the Earth God? In *Journey to the West*, the Great Sage always uses him as a tour guide. The old man has a thick, snow-white beard piled up on the ground, is short in stature, and carries a heavy peach wood cane. The girl was engrossed in observing him when Nezha suddenly pulled her out of the room. He asked, "We've come with her to find someone—a caravan heading to a banquet in a mountain village. Do you know where they are?"
Pingyu's family was wealthy; his parents loved money and even more so, they loved to flaunt it. This description made perfect sense, and she nodded vigorously: "That's right, that's right!"
“That’s it,” said the Earth God. “I know they’ve passed through this area. They’ve headed south, and there is indeed a village there. But I don’t know the exact location… that’s outside my jurisdiction!”
Nezha was dissatisfied with the answer and wanted to press for more information. Pingyu quickly tugged at the boy's arm and, along with the little earth immortal, laughed, "Thank you for telling me, Earth God, but what does 'outside of jurisdiction' mean?"
Are there many local deities? Pingyu thought there was only one per mountain.
"This mountain is called Five Claw Mountain, which, as the name suggests, has five local earth gods. The earth god you're looking for is dressed in purple, and he has a terrible temper!" The earth god speaking to the two was dressed in yellow and was rather gossipy: "The other three earth gods each have their own personalities, but they all get along quite well. Only the one in purple has a strange temperament; he always looks down on people when there are meetings in heaven. He's an earth immortal like us, but he always acts like he's superior to us!"
Pingyu: Even if you become a god, you can't avoid workplace conflicts.
Huang Tudi shook his head and sighed, then picked up his cane and pointed to a spot: "You two should follow this path, climbing over high slopes and wading through streams along the way, and you will see that village. I've heard that it's a bit eerie there, but the local earth gods don't interfere with each other, so I don't know what the scenery is like on that mountain."
"Lingzhuzi, little girl, be careful in everything you do."
Pingyu and Nezha exchanged a glance and waved goodbye to the Yellow Earth God.
.
"How strange."
Led by Nezha, Pingyu carefully stepped over a boulder. She helped him steady himself and said earnestly, "Green Robe said my parents' caravan only set off yesterday. It's quite a distance from here to Chen Tang Pass. You and I are only able to get here so quickly because we have the Wind Fire Wheels... No matter what, it's impossible for them to reach the village managed by the Purple Land immediately by relying on carriages and manpower."
"You're saying someone is lying?"
The boy looked at her.
"uncertain."
"The one in green shouldn't lie to me, and there's no reason for him to! Even if the Earth God was struck by lightning, he wouldn't lie to you. Perhaps... do you think it's possible that the person who came to invite me tampered with things?"
"for example."
"For example, he demonstrated some supernatural powers to convince my parents that the longevity horn in their area was effective." The girl gestured: "You have the Wind and Fire Wheels, and the Taoist priests of Cihangwu have magical swords. Demons and monsters roam the world, and it seems that everyone has their own methods."
“None of them can compare to me,” Nezha sneered. “How dare these pieces of scrap metal call themselves kings?”
The Hun Tian Ling (a magical ribbon) went to scout the way and hasn't returned yet, which shows how rugged and winding the mountains are. The two of them, carried by the Wind and Fire Wheels, followed the path indicated by the Earth God.
Before long, the narrow, winding grassy path widened. A huge rock appeared in sight like a road sign. The inscriptions on it were simple and unadorned, and after being eroded by wind and frost, only the shapes of the characters could be vaguely discerned.
Pingyu traced the lines on the stone with his finger, then uttered two uncertain words: "Balai?"
"Miss?" At the same time, another question, also posed in two words: "Weren't you at the Li residence seeking an immortal to help you overcome your tribulation? How come you're here..."
That voice wasn't Nezha's; it sounded rather old.
Looking up, I saw a person emerge from behind the stone.
He was a middle-aged man. He was bare-chested and his body was tanned to a reddish-brown color, except for two white rope marks on his shoulders.
The two white marks on the shoulders were clearly the marks left by years of towing and riding.
Nezha looked at Pingyu, who only paused for a moment before asking, "My servant, where are my parents?"
The Lin family's caravan actually arrived at Balai Village in just one day and one night.
Upon hearing this, the man raised his hands and lowered his head, saying, "Since arriving here, Master has been suffering from acclimatization problems and has been unable to eat. The family doctor summoned me to gather medicinal herbs, which I will then cook and prepare for Master."
"Something happened to my dad?"
A surge of anger welled up within her, and she grabbed Yu Nu's arms, urgently saying, "Quickly, take us to see this!"
The servant was terrified and pressed his head down even lower.
He led the two men into Balai Village.
As soon as he stepped inside, Pingyu was confronted by a pair of skinless eyes.
"What is this!?"
Startled, she leaned back and bumped into Nezha's solid chest. The boy was made of bronze and iron, instantly causing a bump to swell on the back of the girl's head.
The ground feels softer than him!
Immediately afterwards, the red hammer struck the golden gong. The crowing sound, like a rooster crowing, drew Ping Yu's attention:
A pair of people were lined up at the entrance of the village.
Then look at the last few short people in the line, who look like toddlers, with round and large paper neck protectors.
The girl smiled with her red lips, while the boy pouted with his red lips.
White face, black eyes, each feature on the paper is distinct.
Yu Nu was not surprised by this. He said, "The village is preparing for a birthday banquet."
Clang!
Like the animal pets in a theatrical troupe obeying commands, the paper-covered children swarmed around the girl.
Pingyu then noticed that they were holding wooden vessels with wide mouths and deep inner walls. Inside were some soft, reddish substances that tumbled up and down as the bowls were tossed, like wriggling worms.
"What are you going to do?" she asked.
The children looked at each other. Gui moved closer to the girl, and their laughter rose and fell.
"The bowl contains meat, and the meat symbolizes longevity; our ancestor is ninety years old this year."
"I share the meat, you gain longevity; the number of slices of meat you receive determines the number of years you live."
The laughter abruptly stopped as the song ended.
"elder sister"
The pale-faced men huddled together, their dark eyes all fixed on Ping Yu. They asked in unison:
"How many slices of meat do you want to put in the bowl?"
