Qin Huo was busy in the dining room, preparing to bring dinner upstairs.
Upon hearing approaching footsteps, he turned around and frowned, "Little Jin, why did you come downstairs? It’s too much exertion for your body."
"We have an elevator, just a few steps. No need for me to climb the stairs," Lan Jin held the hand of the little one and entered the dining room.
"Let’s eat here."
She had spent nearly two days upstairs, although mostly in a daze, but it was enough.
Qin Sui’an took a few steps forward, forcefully pulling out a dining chair.
"Grandma, sit here!"
Qin Huo’s intended action was preempted by her, and he smiled, saying, "How did you manage to complete my ’task’ before me, Ann?"
Lan Jin walked over and sat down.
"Who asked you to be slow?"
Qin Sui’an didn’t leave, climbing onto the adjacent chair, assuming a serious expression as if to supervise his grandmother’s meal. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Lan Jin was melted by her cuteness, and a joyful smile remained on her face.
Qin Huo sat on the other side, and only now did the two of them start their dinner, while Qin Sui’an and the little one attentively watched them.
Occasionally, she opened her mouth to accept bites from her grandparents.
Although she had already had dinner, she could still eat a little more.
Ann didn’t want to admit that it was because she was tempted.
After the elderly couple finished their dinner, Qin Sui’an’s supervisory task was also completed.
She happily led her grandparents to the living room.
Qin Haochen heard her light footsteps and stood up, first embracing the little one, then looking at his mother.
"Mom, Yanyi said you’re much better now."
Lan Jin smiled and said, "Yes, you don’t have to worry about me anymore. Worry more about your father’s legs."
Upon hearing this, Qin Huo immediately stomped his foot.
"There’s no need to worry about my legs either."
Being able to walk on his own was better than sitting in a wheelchair and waiting for someone to push him.
Ann looked at her grandfather’s legs and then glanced at the cane he held, which was always by his side.
It seemed that without the cane, her grandfather couldn’t walk on his own.
Her little brows furrowed again.
Qin Haochen sat on the sofa, holding her in his arms, and her other brothers gathered around, wanting to play various games with her.
Seeing the restless little one in his arms, Qin Haochen smiled helplessly and let her go play with her brothers.
They played until almost ten o’clock in the evening, and Qin Sui’an was exhausted, curling up in her daddy’s embrace.
Qin Haochen carried her back to the room, washed her up, and changed her into clean pajamas.
The dolls they brought to the hospital had returned, and there was even a larger teddy bear.
Reluctantly, Qin Haochen allowed the teddy bear to stay on their bed, fortunately, the bed was big enough, with plenty of space.
Qin Sui’an nestled into the comfortable covers, her eyelids heavy, and her little hands holding onto her daddy’s strong arm.
"Daddy..." Qin Haochen leaned closer to the little one.
"Daddy is here. What’s wrong, Ann?"
"Daddy, will Grandfather’s legs always be like this?"
Qin Sui’an’s round eyes closed halfway, filled with drowsiness, but she insisted on finishing her question.
Qin Haochen initially wanted to say something comforting to reassure the little one and not to worry too much.
But after thinking about it, he gave up.
He reached out with his other hand and gently stroked her little face, patiently answering, "The chances of improvement, according to the doctor, are not very high."
The little one followed up with her lingering doubt, "So, Grandfather has to keep holding the cane to walk?"
"More or less, without the cane, it might be a bit difficult for him to walk."
Qin Haochen reassured, "With the cane, your grandfather can actually walk quite fast and even chase after your brothers."
"Really?" This was a scene she had never witnessed.
Qin Sui’an’s round eyes suddenly widened, "Grandfather used to chase after my brothers?"
"In the past," Qin Haochen smiled, "Your brothers didn’t study well, and skipped classes to play outside, so your grandfather chased after them."
In Qin Sui’an’s mind, she fantasized about her Sixth Brother shouting and screaming, while her Grandfather chased after him with a cane, his eyes curved with a smile.
Qin Haochen gently patted her small body and said, "Ann, it’s getting late, go to sleep."
"Okay..." Qin Sui’an nodded slightly, leaning against her daddy’s arm.
She pursed her lips and murmured, "I hope Grandfather’s leg can recover..."
Before long, Ann drifted into a deep slumber.
Qin Huo had a dream that sent shivers down his spine, a nightmare that couldn’t quite be classified as such.
In the dream, two little creatures resembling sprites chased after him, claiming they would devour his bad leg.
Terrified, Qin Huo ran for his life, desperately trying to escape their relentless pursuit.
Eventually, he couldn’t run any longer and collapsed to the ground.
The two creatures immediately pounced on his leg, as if truly gnawing at it.
It wasn’t exactly painful, but rather an uncomfortable numbness.
When the two creatures flew away, Qin Huo lowered his head and discovered that he was missing a leg.
Startled, he exclaimed, "Ah!"
He woke up abruptly from this bizarre dream.
Startled by his cry, Lan Jin turned to him and asked, "Did you have a nightmare? What happened?"
"I dreamt that something wanted to devour my leg," Qin Huo said, still shaken, patting his chest.
"It was terrifying."
Glancing at the brightening sky outside, Lan Jin sat up, grabbed a tissue to wipe his sweat, and comforted him, "Dreams are the opposite of reality, and besides, your leg is already weak. Even if they ate it, it would be in vain."
"Ah," Qin Huo wiped the cold sweat from his face caused by this strange dream. He then lifted the covers and headed towards the bathroom.
Although it was still early, he couldn’t fall back asleep.
He was afraid those two little creatures might still be lurking, wanting to devour his leg. How eerie.
Lan Jin didn’t lie back down either, sitting at the edge of the bed.
Suddenly, she seemed to remember something and turned to look at her husband walking into the bathroom.
"Okay?" Lan Jin turned her head again, looking at the cane placed by the bed.
"What?"
Qin Huo heard her puzzled voice and turned back, asking, "Little Jin, what’s wrong?"
"You..." Lan Jin pointed at his leg.
Qin Huo lowered his head, momentarily thinking he had wet himself due to the nightmare, but fortunately, that wasn’t the case.
"What’s wrong with me?"
Lan Jin stared at him for a moment before saying, "You can walk without the cane?"
"How is that possible? My leg..."
Qin Huo instinctively tried to lift the cane, but his hands grasped nothing.
He took a deep breath, finally realizing what had happened.
"I can walk?!"
Lan Jin immediately picked up the phone from the bedside table, not caring if it would disturb their grandson’s rest, and quickly dialed a number.
"Yanyi, come to our room right now. Your grandfather’s leg recover!"
