"I’m not uncomfortable," Qin Sui’an shook her little head and blinked her round eyes, then said earnestly, "But when big uncle was going to take Ann out for a meal, Ann heard a lot of voices. It was very noisy and made me uncomfortable."
Qin Fujia realized that’s why they said not to eat in the Dining Hall. In other words, this special ability of Ann’s allowed her not only to hear her family’s thoughts but also those of others. This was even broader than her ability to sense danger from scents.
Qin Fujia’s brows slowly furrowed. If Ann couldn’t go to places with large crowds in the future, that would mean she couldn’t even attend competitions... and competitions often involved many people.
Qin Sui’an, noticing her big brother’s concern, looked disheartened. "If I can’t go to places with many people, I won’t be able to participate in competitions... but I still want to participate and win first place, to get the prize."
Qin Fujia’s heart sank. Ann had heard his thoughts.
He bent down slightly, holding Ann close, and gently comforted her, "Ann, this is just my guess. It doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t go to crowded places."
"But..." Qin Sui’an looked down, clearly troubled.
Qin Yanyi, noticing the sudden change in mood, glanced between his elder brother and Ann, and asked with concern, "What’s wrong? Why do you both look so unhappy?"
Without any special abilities, he couldn’t hear or see what was going on with Ann and his big brother.
Qin Fujia instinctively looked at Ann and, seeing her drooping head, quickly asked, "Ann, what’s the matter?"
"Big brother, second brother..." Qin Sui’an’s voice was filled with sorrow. "If I can’t go to places with many people, I can’t join competitions. But I still want to participate and win first place and the prize."
Qin Fujia’s heart tightened. Ann had heard his thoughts.
He gently hugged Ann, whispering, "Ann, this is just my guess. It doesn’t mean for sure you can’t go to crowded places."
"However..." Qin Sui’an kept her head lowered.
Qin Yanyi, noticing Ann’s dejection, said, "There will be a way, Ann. Don’t worry. Let’s think of a solution."
Although he said this, they didn’t have a concrete solution yet.
Qin Sui’an pursed her lips and then looked up at her big brother. "Big brother, Ann wants to go to the Dining Hall."
Her voice was firm, as if she was ready to face whatever might happen.
Qin Fujia was worried but checked the time. It was past meal time, so the Dining Hall should be quieter now.
He took a deep breath. "Alright, let’s go to the Dining Hall."
Saying this, Qin Fujia picked up Ann and walked out of the hall.
Qin Yanyi wanted to dissuade them but kept quiet. He sighed silently, grabbed the medical kit, and followed them.
Qin Sui’an could hear her big brother and second brother’s worries about her. This time, she comforted them in return: "Big brother, second brother, don’t worry. Ann will... um... know what to do."
She tried to use her limited vocabulary to comfort them.
At that moment, a series of footsteps approached from a side path.
They turned their heads and saw the big white goose running out from the path.
The big white goose heard little Ann’s words and honked, "Honk~"
Did little Ann mean she would be careful?
Qin Sui’an nodded vigorously. "Yes~ Ann will be careful. Big brother, second brother, don’t worry about Ann."
Qin Fujia and Qin Yanyi exchanged glances. They weren’t going to refuse Ann’s request, so they took a deep breath and reminded themselves to stay relaxed.
The big white goose had taken a nap behind the temple and was now full of energy. It looked curiously at Ann’s two brothers.
Had something happened while it wasn’t around? It hadn’t sensed anything unusual about little Ann.
What was going on?
The big white goose’s small eyes shifted between Qin Fujia and Qin Yanyi. Its gaze was so obvious that Qin Yanyi found it hard to ignore.
Suddenly, Qin Yanyi thought of something and turned to Ann. "Ann, can you hear the big white goose’s thoughts?"
If Ann could hear humans’ thoughts, could she hear animals’ thoughts as well? Although it was already impressive that Ann understood the big white goose’s honks.
Qin Sui’an gently nodded. "I can hear them."
"Honk?" The big white goose looked at little Ann with puzzled eyes.
What? It seemed like it didn’t understand.
Qin Sui’an looked at the big white goose and explained, "Big white goose, Ann can hear everyone’s thoughts, including yours."
To ensure the big white goose understood, she added patiently, "It means even if people don’t speak, Ann can still hear what they’re thinking."
The big white goose stared in shock, "Honk???!!!"
Really? Little Ann is that amazing?
Qin Sui’an nodded earnestly. "Yes, it’s true. Ann isn’t lying."
The big white goose gasped, its long beak opening in surprise.
In just a few hours apart from little Ann, she had become so impressive!
As they spoke, Qin Fujia, holding Ann, was getting closer to the Dining Hall.
His pace noticeably slowed, still feeling some concern.
When they were about ten meters away from the Dining Hall, Qin Fujia stopped and asked Ann, "Ann, can you hear the thoughts of people inside from here?"
Qin Sui’an concentrated for a moment and shook her head. "I can’t hear them."
Qin Fujia continued to walk forward slowly, wanting to see how close they had to be for Ann to hear their thoughts.
Just as he was pondering this, he felt Ann suddenly lean softly against him.
He stopped immediately. "Ann, did you hear something?"
Qin Sui’an leaned against her big brother, her voice weakened. "Yes... I heard... a lot of people talking."
"’This fish is quite good!’"
"’The taste is okay, not as bad as I imagined...’"
"’As expected from the temple’s Dining Hall, no meat at all. This oil even tastes like vegetable oil...’"
"’The people around are eating so quietly. I’ll just eat quietly like Ann too...’"
Murmurs continued to come from the Dining Hall.
