Qin Qianyi looked at their fourth brother, nodding in agreement. "It does sound like it’s calling our mom. Our mom’s full name is Ye Zhaosi."
Qin Niexun, however, was cautious and did not confirm it. "Ann, this is just our guess."
Qin Sui’an lowered her head and looked at the silver bracelet on her wrists. The small Buddhas seemed to recognize the bracelet, which was why they mentioned that the bracelet looked familiar.
Seeing Ann so absorbed in her bracelet that she even forgot to drink the water, Qin Qianyi quickly held the cup for her and said gently, "Ann, drink some water first. We’ll think about the rest slowly."
"Mmhm!" Qin Sui’an nodded, happy to have her thirst quenched after talking so much.
As Ann drank, Qin Qianyi glanced at his fourth brother and asked, "Fourth Brother, who do you think these voices belong to? There were no other people in the temple."
Qin Niexun answered quickly and directly, "I’m not sure."
"Oh." Qin Qianyi then remembered that his fourth brother was a believer in science and not superstitious, so asking him might not be the best idea.
Despite not saying anything, Qin Niexun noticed the slight "bias" in his younger brother’s eyes and added, "There weren’t any other people in the temple. In a place like that with strong incense, it’s rare to encounter ghosts. Perhaps the Buddhas themselves were speaking."
Qin Qianyi was initially shocked. "Fourth Brother, do you believe that Buddhas can talk?"
"It doesn’t matter whether I believe it or not." Qin Niexun glanced at the time. "I’ve noted down what Ann said. When Big Brother comes back, I’ll ask him about it."
Recalling their older brother suddenly reminded Qin Niexun of a question he had forgotten to ask Ann earlier. Since only the three siblings were in the study now, it was a good time to ask.
Qin Sui’an finished her water and looked up at her fourth brother. "What does Fourth Brother want to ask Ann?"
Qin Qianyi put the empty cup back on the table and, hearing Ann’s sudden question, looked curiously at his fourth brother. "What does Fourth Brother want to ask Ann?"
At this moment, he desperately wished he could read minds. How cool would it be to know what others were thinking without them speaking!
Under the curious gazes of his younger brother and sister, Qin Niexun asked, "It’s about our uncle. Ann, you mentioned that you met our uncle on the way to the temple this afternoon?"
"Yes!" Qin Sui’an nodded and described her encounter with their big uncle. "Ann first heard the sound of a big white goose. After getting out of the car, I saw Big Uncle’s car parked on the roadside, and Big Uncle saw Ann too."
Feeling a bit shy, she continued, "Ann didn’t know Big Uncle, so she hid behind Second Brother. The big white goose said he wasn’t a bad person but Ann’s Big Uncle."
Although she didn’t provide the full details, it gave Qin Niexun and Qin Qianyi a general idea of the situation.
Qin Qianyi frowned in confusion. "Why did he stop his car by the roadside?"
He was referring to their Uncle Ye Xiaoyuan.
Qin Niexun then asked, "Ann, was there any danger around?"
"Nope~" Qin Sui’an shook her little head. "After saying hello, Big Uncle joined us to find Big Brother."
"I see." Qin Niexun was puzzled.
They had just wrapped up a case last night, so Ye Xiaoyuan should have been hiding for a while. He shouldn’t have shown up until the verdict was out and the situation was resolved, otherwise, there could be risks.
From Ann’s description, it seemed like Ye Xiaoyuan had unexpectedly encountered Ann and was planning to find their older brother.
Why would Ye Xiaoyuan want to see their older brother?
Qin Niexun got lost in thought.
Qin Sui’an, hearing her fourth brother’s thoughts, looked puzzled.
Fourth Brother’s thoughts are so hard to understand...
Qin Qianyi looked back and forth between his fourth brother and Ann, feeling utterly confused. It was frustrating not having mind-reading abilities and being unable to understand his fourth brother’s thoughts. Fortunately, he could still ask questions.
He asked his fourth brother, "Fourth Brother, what are you thinking?"
Qin Niexun snapped back to reality, meeting his younger brother’s frustrated gaze and Ann’s puzzled expression.
Oh no, I forgot Ann can hear my thoughts.
Qin Sui’an blinked her wide eyes, adding more confusion to her expression.
Why did Fourth Brother think it’s bad?
Qin Niexun cleared his throat and stopped his train of thought. "I was wondering why our uncle was looking for our older brother."
Qin Qianyi, unaware of Ye Xiaoyuan’s special status, didn’t understand why this minor issue made his fourth brother look so serious. "We can just ask Big Brother when he comes back."
"True." Qin Niexun ended the topic and asked Ann again, "Ann, how did Big Uncle react when he saw you?"
"Very well~" Qin Sui’an’s eyes brightened as she spoke. "Big Uncle said Ann smelled good, he really likes holding Ann, and said Ann is very cute and pretty! He also said Ann looks a lot like Mommy, and when Mommy sees Ann, she’ll be very happy!"
Qin Qianyi frowned. "It sounds like... even though he’s our uncle, he seems a bit..."
He stopped himself, closing off the thought, as it wasn’t a pleasant word.
Qin Sui’an tilted her head in confusion. "What’s a bit what, Sixth Brother?"
"Uh... a bit, a bit juvenile, a bit immature." Qin Qianyi tried to phrase it more diplomatically. "I’ve only met Uncle Ye Xiaoyuan once, and he didn’t seem like the type to say such things."
The only time he met Ye Xiaoyuan was at their parents’ wedding. Ye Xiaoyuan had been busy, and his demeanor was serious, lacking any visible warmth.
Qin Sui’an explained, "Big Uncle didn’t say those things out loud; Ann heard them in his thoughts."
When she first heard her big uncle "saying" those things, she didn’t realize she had mind-reading abilities and thought her ears were having issues.
After explaining, Qin Sui’an had a new question. "Sixth Brother attended Daddy and Mommy’s wedding, right?"
Qin Qianyi nodded. "Of course. It was such an important occasion, we had to attend."
It was their nominal father and mother’s wedding; no matter how mischievous or busy they were, they had to make time for it.
Just like Ye Xiaoyuan, who, despite being busy, made time to show up and meet them.
Qin Sui’an’s little head drooped slowly, her voice becoming subdued. "Then why didn’t Ann attend...?"
