Not seeing anyone coming from the castle, Qin Sui’an took the piece of meat from her brother’s hand and opened her small mouth to taste it. Unlike the delicacies she usually ate or the home-cooked meals by master chefs, this piece of meat offered her a different flavor experience. Seeing Ann’s eyes light up, Qin Qianyi knew he had made the right choice and happily tore off another piece for her. "It’s delicious, but don’t eat too much; we’ll have dinner soon. Let’s just sneak a few bites."
Qin Sui’an accepted the meat with one hand while making an "OK" gesture with the other. Qin Qianyi smiled, "Good girl."
"No, no~" Qin Sui’an shook her little head and sweetly said, "Brother, Ann wants to have three bites~"
Qin Qianyi’s smile deepened: "So it’s not an ’OK,’ but you want three bites!" He couldn’t help but laugh at her adorable little hand.
While Qin Sui’an nibbled on the meat, she looked at her brother in confusion, wondering why he was both laughing and praising her cuteness. Focused on the delicious food, she briefly pondered before happily munching on the fragrant pig trotter meat.
Qin Qianyi tore off a third piece for her and thought about finishing the rest himself to leave no "evidence." Just as he reached for the remaining trotter, he caught sight of a white figure darting out from the side. The white figure moved quickly and directly snatched the remaining pig trotter, disappearing back into the flower bushes in an instant.
Qin Qianyi was left in shock. "What just zipped past?"
Qin Sui’an, startled by the commotion, blinked her big eyes in confusion before resuming her chewing. "Brother, what just came out?"
"Was it a white dog?" Qin Qianyi wondered aloud, since they didn’t have a dog at home. But then he recalled they did have a large white goose.
Yet—when did the goose run this fast? It felt quicker than last time when it chased him, moving at a speed beyond human comprehension.
Qin Sui’an slowly pieced it together and shook her little head, "Not a white dog, it’s a big white goose~" She had heard the goose’s thoughts.
[Big White Goose: Mmm, why does this human food smell so delicious? It’s making me restless!]
When the big white goose realized it was little Ann and her brother sneaking food, it lost interest but was still lured by the aroma. As soon as Ann finished her three bites, the goose charged out, catching Qin Qianyi off guard.
He was bewildered for a few seconds. "Was that really the big white goose? Has it mutated? How can it run so fast?"
[Big White Goose: Mmm, just using a bit of spirit energy. I have plenty to spare.]
As Qin Sui’an swallowed her third bite, she conveyed the goose’s message: "It’s the spirit energy that makes the big white goose run so fast."
"Spirit energy?" That sounded like something an ordinary person wouldn’t possess.
Fortunately, Qin Qianyi didn’t have to eat the pig trotter. He took off his gloves and helped Ann clean up. Glancing at the box on the ground, he warned the goose hidden in the bushes, "You can eat the trotter, but remember to hide the trash afterward so Dad and Grandpa don’t find out."
[Big White Goose: Got it, got it.]
Qin Qianyi could only hear the sound of the goose munching and not a single honk. He turned back to Ann.
Qin Sui’an continued to respond for the goose, "The big white goose said it knows!"
"That’s all that matters." Qin Qianyi picked Ann up with one arm and grabbed his jacket with the other. "Let’s go back and have dinner."
With her little hands wrapped around his neck, she whispered, "Brother, is it because we ate the pig trotter that Daddy and Grandpa can’t find out?"
"I can, but you can’t, so we need to hide it." Qin Qianyi lowered his voice, adding, "But if your tummy hurts, you must tell us right away; no need to hide that."
Qin Sui’an nodded earnestly, "Okay, I remember!"
Before leaving the garden, Qin Qianyi glanced back at the flower bushes, still surprised by the goose’s sudden speed.
As they walked slowly to the castle entrance, their older brother, second brother, and fifth brother returned home as well. This gave Qin Qianyi the perfect excuse to tell his dad and grandparents that they were waiting for everyone.
With everyone gathered, they headed to the dining room. Although Ye Rongyuan was with them, there was still more than enough space at the table.
As usual, Qin Sui’an sat in her little children’s chair. Having snacked in the living room and then been fed pig trotters in the garden, she wasn’t hungry. She swung her short legs, patiently waiting for her dad to serve dinner.
Qin Haochen handed her a milk bottle, noticing her eyes didn’t light up with greed like before. He asked with a smile, "Ann, did your brother give you any other food?"
Qin Sui’an’s eyes widened, and then she quickly shook her head, avoiding her dad’s gaze. "Brother didn’t give Ann pig trotter~"
The little one was too innocent; Qin Haochen casually asked and got the right answer. He sighed with a laugh and ruffled her hair, "Good, no need to eat it."
Qin Qianyi, feeling guilty, kept his head down, focusing on his meal.
Under the table, he felt a nudge from fifth brother, Qin Yaoyu, who whispered, "Where did the pig trotter come from? What if Ann gets a stomachache? If you want some, just let the cook make it!"
"Fifth Brother..."
Before Qin Qianyi could explain further, he heard his dad’s voice: "Qianyi, come to my study after dinner." Qin Haochen shot him a glance, "Just to ask about your studies."
Qin Qianyi replied weakly, "Yes, Dad." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Ye Rongyuan enjoyed the drama and said with a smile, "Once my brother-in-law is done with personal matters, we can discuss business; there’s no rush."
This was perfect, as he wanted to spend a bit more time with Ann and hadn’t thought of a good excuse to delay the business talk!
