Chapter 394: It’s Different

Ye Rongyuan heard Ann’s words as if struck by lightning, leaving him stunned. He quickly reacted, his eyes wide in disbelief: "Ann doesn’t have Mind-Reading Skill anymore? Ann can’t hear my thoughts?"

Qin Sui’an blinked her round eyes, first nodding then shaking her head, "Ann has Mind-Reading Skill; she just didn’t hear Uncle’s thoughts." She answered her uncle’s confusion in turn, but her response only puzzled him more.

Ye Rongyuan furrowed his brow, "I don’t understand..." He shot a pleading look at his mom.

Old Mrs. Ye gently patted her granddaughter’s head, then looked at him, "Ann can now choose whether to hear your thoughts or not."

"Choose?" Ye Rongyuan replayed this sentence in his mind and, contrasting it with Ann’s earlier answer, began to grasp it. He gasped, "So, this new Mind-Reading Skill is an upgrade?"

"Pretty much," Old Mrs. Ye didn’t refute, making it easier to understand. Ye Rongyuan still felt disoriented by this news, sensing that he and Ann existed in two different worlds. What step had he missed?

Unable to resist, he glanced at his mom again, searching for clarity. Old Mrs. Ye remained calm, seemingly unaware of his thoughts or indifferent to them.

Qin Sui’an looked up at her uncle and then at her grandmother, sensing there were things they wanted to discuss privately. Oh~ Adults need to talk; kids shouldn’t listen.

Feeling her presence was a barrier, she carefully closed the album and set it down, "Grandma, can Ann go find Grandpa?" The little one’s intentions were clear, her innocent face revealing her true feelings.

Old Mrs. Ye was touched by her thoughtfulness, finding her granddaughter to be a warm little cotton-padded jacket, warming their hearts. She didn’t want to reject her granddaughter’s kindness or make her feel like her presence disrupted the adults’ conversation.

"Of course," Old Mrs. Ye replied, then opened her arms to hug the little girl, looking at her son, "Rongyuan, if you have something to ask, just do it. Ann may be young, but she understands more than you."

Ye Rongyuan felt a bit embarrassed, "I just thought there were some things you wouldn’t want to discuss, Mom."

Old Mrs. Ye lightly huffed, "I have no secrets with Ann."

He understood this, exclaiming loudly, "Oh! So, Mom, you have secrets with me? How many things have you been hiding from us?"

Seeing his "grievance," Old Mrs. Ye remained calm and gently said to her granddaughter, "Go find your grandpa; his office is to the right."

"Okay~" Qin Sui’an quickly jumped off the couch and dashed toward the door without looking back.

The big white goose followed closely behind. Old Mrs. Ye got up to help her granddaughter open the office door, watching as she and the goose knocked on the adjacent office door.

Upon hearing the sweet "Grandpa~" from outside, Old Mr. Ye rushed to open the office door, "Ann." He smiled widely, bending down to pick her up, then glanced toward the other office.

Old Mrs. Ye explained, "I’m discussing something with Rongyuan; Ann didn’t want to interrupt us."

Old Mr. Ye nodded knowingly, "Alright, you two talk. I’ll keep Ann company."

Once they entered the office, Old Mrs. Ye closed the door behind them. She slowly returned to the sofa, flipping through the albums, and said, "Ask whatever you want."

If she didn’t clarify for her younger son, they would have to go through this again later. Ye Rongyuan had been holding back for a while and finally had a chance to ask properly.

He chose his most curious question, "Mom, did you already know Ann had Mind-Reading Skill?"

"No," Old Mrs. Ye shot him a sidelong glance, her tone laced with warning, "I only found out from you this morning."

Ye Rongyuan felt guilty, "Oh..." It seemed his mom hadn’t lied about this.

He shifted to another question, "Mom, do you have Mind-Reading Skill too?"

Old Mrs. Ye remained composed, "No." It wasn’t something she needed.

"Ah?" Ye Rongyuan stared at her skeptically, "Then why do I always feel like you also have Mind-Reading Skill?"

"Your thoughts are all written on your faces; I’m not blind; I can see."

Ye Rongyuan instinctively touched his face. Fine, he still hadn’t learned to hide his emotions well.

He asked again, "What about sister? Does she have Mind-Reading Skill like Ann?"

Old Mrs. Ye lowered her gaze, "You should ask your sister about that."

Noticing her expression, Ye Rongyuan dared not continue with, "What if she’s still asleep?"

Old Mrs. Ye collected her emotions and asked, "What else do you want to know? You can ask one last question."

Otherwise, this line of questioning would drag on without a focus.

Upon hearing it was the last question, Ye Rongyuan became serious, contemplating what to ask. After a long while, he finally decided.

His expression solemn, he locked eyes with her, "Mom."

"Hmm," Old Mrs. Ye maintained her calm demeanor, "Ask."

"Are you, sister, and Ann different from us?" Ye Rongyuan worried he hadn’t made himself clear, adding, "I mean, Dad, Big Brother, Second Brother, and I—don’t we have any possibility of having Mind-Reading Skill like Ann and understanding what the big white goose says?"

Old Mrs. Ye paused her motion of flipping through the album, looking at him. After a long silence of about ten seconds, she nodded gently, "Yes."

Receiving a definite answer, even though he had anticipated this, Ye Rongyuan was still taken aback.
