For some reason, Shi Qinghan felt a small sense of grievance after his cousin Shi Yiyin’s remarks. He had waited all afternoon but hadn’t managed to see little Ann.
Pouting, Shi Qinghan’s youthful voice was tinged with frustration. "I didn’t go look for Ann, and I didn’t see her."
"Ah?" Shi Yiyin pointed to the goose feather in his pocket. "Then how does my cousin have a feather from the big white goose?"
"I ran into it by chance; it gave it to me." Shi Qinghan found her chatter annoying and turned to head upstairs.
"Cousin, don’t go! Where did you meet the big white goose? I want to play with it too!"
Shi Yiyin’s calls couldn’t keep him from walking faster.
Feeling left behind, Shi Yiyin wrinkled her nose in displeasure and huffed, "Why doesn’t my cousin want to play with me? Hmph, fine, I don’t want to play with him either!"
She turned and ran back to the living room.
In the living room, Shi Yiyin’s mother, Meng Shujie, was chatting with Shi Qinghan’s mother, Shu Yao, on the sofa.
Seeing her daughter return in a huff, Meng Shujie couldn’t help but chuckle. "Did you go annoy your cousin again?"
"I didn’t annoy him! I just asked him a few questions, and he ignored me," Shi Yiyin plopped down on a play mat and resumed playing with her Barbie dolls.
Shu Yao, noticing her daughter’s mood, said apologetically, "Qinghan can be a bit temperamental; I’m sorry Yiyin got upset."
"It’s normal for kids to bicker," Meng Shujie replied with a shrug. She then told her daughter, "Your cousin likes quiet; don’t disturb him."
"I didn’t chase him upstairs to bother him," Shi Yiyin said. Her mood shifted quickly; soon she was laughing as she played with her dolls, mumbling, "I won’t play with him. I’ll play with my Barbies instead."
Shu Yao smiled at how quickly Yiyin’s mood changed. "Yiyin has a good temperament." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Meng Shujie felt fortunate that her daughter was easygoing and wouldn’t let such small conflicts create awkwardness.
Suddenly, Shu Yao’s phone on the table buzzed. She picked it up to check.
It was a message from her husband, Shi Anye, saying that if he had time tomorrow evening, he’d like to attend the birthday party being held by the Bai family.
Shu Yao frowned slightly, puzzled. "Why does he want to attend the party?"
The Bai family had recently offended the Qin family, and Shi Corporation maintained a good partnership with Qin Corporation. At such a delicate time, it would be wise to keep their distance.
Meng Shujie overheard and asked curiously, "Is there a party coming up?"
"The Bai family is hosting a birthday party, but I don’t know whose birthday it is," Shu Yao replied, typing a message to remind her husband not to forget about the bad blood between the Qin and Bai families.
Shi Yiyin turned to her mother and raised her hand, saying, "I know! Little aunt, it’s Bai Zhou’s birthday! He was so proud at kindergarten today, saying he was inviting all the kids to his house for cake!"
Shu Yao paused her typing, not rushing to send her reply. "So it’s the son of Mr. Bai having a birthday."
"Wow, Bai Zhou is turning five already!" Meng Shujie commented, remembering the child well, as her daughter often mentioned how Bai Zhou bullied other kids in kindergarten.
But she had heard that not long ago, Bai Zhou had been beaten up by his aunt.
Thinking of this made Meng Shujie unable to suppress a smile. "The young lady from the Qin family is quite formidable. Even Bai Zhou behaves himself around her, and she’s only three and a half!"
Shu Yao suddenly remembered that the Qin family and Bai family were related. No wonder her husband suddenly wanted to attend the Bai family’s party.
Recalling that her son had once taken milk from the Qin family, Shu Yao had a good guess as to why her husband wanted to go to the party.
She deleted her previous message and replaced it with a simple "Okay."
Usually, when Shi Anye received an invitation, Shi Yiyin’s family would also receive one.
Meng Shujie looked at Shu Yao and asked, "Are you planning to attend?"
Shu Yao set her phone down. "I suppose so, if we have time."
Meng Shujie turned to her daughter. "Yiyin, are you going to Bai Zhou’s birthday party?"
Shi Yiyin shook her head. "I don’t want to go. I’ve eaten birthday cake before."
Moreover, she didn’t enjoy playing with Bai Zhou, so there was no reason for her to attend his party.
Meng Shujie didn’t push the matter further, musing aloud, "If you’re not going, I’ll just send some gifts over."
Shi Yiyin reached into her pocket to touch the goose feather, thinking it was the best gift she had received.
Before, when she got home from school, her mother would always say she was dirty. But since she started carrying the feather, she had been clean every day, and her mother even praised her.
She wanted to find a chance to properly thank Ann for the goose feather.
At that moment, Shi Yiyin suddenly remembered something and exclaimed, "Ah!"
Meng Shujie was startled. "What’s wrong?"
"Mom, will Ann go to Bai Zhou’s birthday party?" Shi Yiyin reasoned, "Last time, Bai Zhou went to Ann’s party!"
Meng Shujie shook her head. "How would I know? I haven’t been in contact with their family lately."
Shi Yiyin pulled out her smartwatch. "Does Mom have Ann’s family’s number? I’ll call and ask!"
"I don’t have it," Meng Shujie looked at Shu Yao.
Shu Yao felt helpless. "I don’t have it either."
Shi Yiyin sighed in disappointment. "Fine then."
Since they couldn’t ask, she would just have to go to Bai Zhou’s birthday party and see if Ann was there. If she didn’t see her, she would just go home.
Meng Shujie wondered what her daughter was scheming. "So, are you going to Bai Zhou’s party?"
Shi Yiyin grinned. "I’ll go take a look first."
Meng Shujie couldn’t argue with her. "Do as you like."
How the children interacted wasn’t something the adults would interfere with, as long as the etiquette was in place.
At around five in the afternoon, Meng Shujie took her daughter Shi Yiyin and left.
As soon as their car drove away, Shi Qinghan came down from upstairs.
Hearing the footsteps, Shu Yao walked to the stairway and smiled at him. "Why are you hiding from Yiyin?"
"She was too noisy." Shi Qinghan slowly walked down the stairs.
Shu Yao sighed helplessly. "Yiyin is just lively."
Unlike her son, who was very quiet.
Well, everyone has their own personality; she wouldn’t force her son to be lively.
Gently wrapping her arm around his shoulder, she walked with him to the living room.
Noticing the feather in his pocket, Shu Yao thought it was some lint and reached out to remove it.
