Chapter 123 A strange scene

Seeing the chicken skin being roasted until golden and crispy, Wu Dali could no longer resist the urge to eat meat, so he picked up one of them and started tearing it apart.

He didn't care about the heat and stuffed the roasted chicken skin with tender chicken meat into his mouth. He chewed it and it was so delicious that he almost bit his tongue - it was so delicious!

Wu Dali ate with relish. After drinking millet porridge for a few days, he had been craving for meat for a long time. He gobbled up the whole chicken in no time.

Although he was burping, his eyes were still fixed on the other roasted chicken, and he was struggling in his heart.

Not only was he not satisfied with eating this one chicken, but it also aroused his greed. He felt unsatisfied after finishing it. He wished he could eat the other one as well!

He thought so, but if he really returned empty-handed, Li Yuan and the others would definitely not let him go. When Wu Dali thought of this, he became scared again.

After thinking about it, Wu Dali came up with a best of both worlds solution - he would eat the roast chicken, then go into the water and fish out something for Li Yuan and the others to take back, wouldn't that be enough?

As for how to roast it after taking it back, that is their concern.

It doesn't matter even if he roasts it. At worst, the soldiers will find out, confiscate the meat, and isolate him.

Wu Dali was actually hoping for this, so that Li Yuan and the others wouldn't have to ask him to come and get the meat in the middle of the night, which would save him a lot of trouble!

The more he thought about it, the better he felt this was. He resisted the urge to eat the roast chicken first, stood up and walked towards the water, making sure he had to catch something before he could eat the other chicken.

As soon as he turned his back, he suddenly felt a gust of cold wind blowing from behind, and the hairs on the back of his neck stood up.

Wu Dali hurriedly and nervously turned his head to check, only to see that the flames were swaying left and right in the wind from the forest, and there was nothing around them, just like before.

His suddenly tense heart relaxed a little, thinking that he had just eaten and was scaring himself for no reason.

Wu Dali picked up the branch he had thrown on the shore and stepped into the shallow water to fish again. However, this time he was fishing for meat for Li Yuan and the others, so he was not as careful.

After fishing for a while, he found another lamb that was bigger than the one last time, but its stomach was a little bloated. He thought that as long as they didn't eat the internal organs, there would be no problem. Maybe they would be happier to see that this lamb was bigger and had more meat than the one last night.

He picked up the sheep and found some long and thin weeds by the water to tie it up so that he could carry it back later.

Unexpectedly, the problem was solved so quickly. Wu Dali happily walked back to the fire, ready to enjoy his second roast chicken. However, when he got closer and took a look, he was scared out of his wits.

The roast chicken on the fire was gone!

Not only the roast chicken, but also the branch that skewered the chicken disappeared!

The strange scene before him gave Wu Dali goosebumps all over his body. He looked around nervously, but there was no trace of the roasted chicken in the open space around him. It looked as if the roasted chicken had grown wings and flown away.

Oh my god... could there be a ghost in this deep forest...

As soon as this thought popped into his mind, it quickly and uncontrollably occupied all his reason, and the surrounding environment became particularly gloomy and terrifying in his eyes.

Wu Dali was screaming in his heart and wanted to run away, but he didn't dare to, for fear that the noise he made would attract the ghost.

He pretended to be calm, picked up the lamb in his hand, pretended not to notice anything unusual about the fire, and strode back to the shelter along the way he came.

But he couldn't control the fear in his heart. His steps became faster and faster unconsciously, and he wanted to run immediately.

As he walked, he kept his ears alert to any movement around him.

After a while, he actually heard a faint sound behind him, "rustling", as if something was following him.

Wu Dali was so scared that his heart almost jumped out of his chest, but he didn't dare to look back. Tears of fear flowed out of his eyes involuntarily, and he could only bite his lips tightly and dared not make a sound.

The rustling sound was getting closer and clearer, so close that it seemed to be right behind Wu Dali.

He was so frightened that his back was stiff and his hands and feet were cold. He walked forward numbly like a robot, deceiving himself by staring straight ahead, even though there was darkness ahead due to heavy shadows of trees and he could not see anything clearly.

It was not until he saw sporadic lights of fire appear in the refuge area high up on the hillside that Wu Dali's heart, which was so frightened that it was about to explode, felt a little hope again.

On the way just now, he imagined countless times that he would be bitten and devoured by the ghosts behind him in the next second. Every second was extremely painful, but it seemed that God really favored him and let him walk back to the refuge area safely.

Wu Dali felt a flicker of elation. He felt like his luck had been incredibly good since last night. He'd walked alone on a mountain road in the dead of night without encountering any danger, and even managed to fish out a lamb. He'd woken up from a good night's sleep to find the group he'd feared the most had been quarantined, his misdeeds hadn't been exposed, and he'd even enjoyed a delicious roast chicken all to himself...

Apart from deliberately trying not to think about the missing roast chicken, even though he was scared to death on the way back, nothing terrible actually happened...

Before he finished comforting himself in his mind, he suddenly felt a hot and moist breath coming from the back of his neck, as if something was breathing on the back of his neck.

The feeling was too obvious, mixed with a disgusting fishy smell, so obvious that he could no longer deceive himself into believing it was an illusion.

Wu Dali looked at the flickering lights on the top of the hill in despair. The great fear made him lose control of his limbs. His legs felt as heavy as if they were filled with lead, and he could no longer lift his legs to take a step forward.

Suddenly he felt a huge force snatch the sheep from his hands, and pull his body to the side.

His eyelids trembled, and he slowly lifted them up, just in time to see the lamb being bitten to pieces by a huge, bloody mouth with sharp fangs.

"ah--"

"ah--"

"ah--"

The shrill screams, one after another, pierced the sky above the dense forest, startling a few sleeping birds, which flapped their wings and flew away in panic.

"What's that sound?!"

The soldiers patrolling the refuge area also heard the shouting, and immediately looked vigilantly in the direction of the sound coming from down the mountain, and gathered around.

The quarantine area was closest to the direction of descending the mountain. The few people with crew cuts who had fallen asleep were also awakened by the extremely shrill screams. They were frightened and broke out in cold sweats. Their hearts were pounding.

Why does this scream sound so much like Wu Dali's voice?!
