Chapter 124 Someone is sick

"Hurry! Something happened! Go save them!"

Ma Jun was on duty tonight. When he heard the noise, he knew something must have happened.

Without thinking too much, he immediately organized a team of soldiers with shovels as weapons and ran down the mountain following the screams.

A group of people holding shovels and torches ran as fast as they could towards the direction where the screams came from. Before they could get close, the screams suddenly stopped.

In the dim forest, the cavalry and soldiers looked around with torches in hand, shouting loudly:

"Is anyone there? Where are you? We're here to rescue you!"

But the dense forest seemed exceptionally quiet, as if the screams just now were just a collective nightmare.

Ma Jun did not give up. He asked the soldiers to maintain their formation and not get separated, and continue searching forward in the direction of going down the mountain.

Suddenly, a sickening smell of blood filled the air, setting off alarm bells in his heart. He waved his hand and stopped all the soldiers:

"Everyone gather around me immediately, and pay attention to the danger ahead!"

One, two, three... As more and more hands holding torches gathered together, the illuminated area in front became wider and wider, and a shocking scene suddenly appeared in front of everyone.

Under a tree not far away in the firelight, there was a pool of dark red blood that had not yet solidified. The tree trunk covered with claw marks was splattered with spurts of blood, and drops of blood were winding down the trunk. There seemed to be a long strip of object at the root of the tree, covered with dead branches and leaves, and it was unclear.

A young soldier walking in front was the first to step forward with a torch to check, but the next second he turned around and vomited with a "wow".

Ma Jun walked over with a serious expression. After seeing clearly what was under the tree roots, his pupils trembled - it turned out to be a human leg that had been bitten to pieces!

He suppressed the shock in his heart and carefully looked around with the torch in hand. He found that not far from the man's legs there was a half-bitten sheep's body, and there was also an intermittent bloodstain from the tree roots to the direction of the dense forest.

Judging from the scene, it was obvious that someone was attacked by a wild beast in the dense forest. Most of his body was dragged away, leaving only a bitten leg behind.

Coupled with the remaining half of the sheep's body, it seemed that some fellow villager had disobeyed advice and ran to the flood bank to salvage the animal at night, but was unfortunately targeted by a wild beast and killed.

"Captain, are you still chasing?"

A young soldier asked with a grim face. The strong smell of blood and the horrific scene at the scene made his stomach churn.

Ma Jun sighed, closed his eyes and shook his head.

Judging from the large amount of blood and broken limbs left at the scene, this person must have been killed. The dense forest before them was unfathomable, and there was no telling how many ferocious beasts there were. Blindly following the blood trail would only put the soldiers in danger.

He asked the soldiers to dig two pits, burying the broken human legs and half of the sheep's body respectively, and then returned to the refuge area to report their findings to Lu Zhan.

After a quick investigation, the identity of the man with only one leg left was confirmed. It was Wu Dali who said he went to the toilet but had not returned yet.

The soldier in charge of Wu Dali was also severely punished. Wu Dali had been away from the refuge area for more than an hour, and it was obviously against common sense to take such a long time to go to the toilet. However, the soldier fell asleep because he was sleepy and did not even think of confirming again whether Wu Dali had returned.

If they had discovered earlier that he had not returned to the camp, and immediately organized people to look for him, perhaps this tragedy could have been avoided.

The men with crew cuts saw the returning soldiers with pale faces, and heard that the murder scene was extremely bloody and tragic, and several soldiers who went to rescue people vomited. They couldn't help but feel terrified just by listening to it.

They suddenly felt that they were the only four people isolated on the outskirts of the shelter, and they felt extremely insecure. They started crying and making a fuss, demanding to move back to their original place.

But no matter how much they shouted, no one paid any attention to them.

The shaved head couldn't think of any other solution, so he could only muster up the courage to approach Li Yuan, whose eyes were tightly closed, and ask him for advice:

"Boss, did you hear that? They say Wu Dali is dead! He was killed by a wild beast in the forest. I heard he was eaten to death and only one leg was left!"

Li Yuan coughed for a long time before finally falling asleep, but was woken up by the man with a crew cut.

He frowned, moved his lips, and before he could utter a word he began to cough violently. He coughed until the veins on his forehead bulged and his face turned red before he finally stopped.

When he opened his mouth, his voice was very hoarse:

"If you're dead, then die. Don't disturb me while I rest."

Li Yuan's coldness made the crew cut's heart skip a beat. After all, Wu Dali had been following him around and calling him "big brother" for two months. Even if he didn't regard him as a brother, he was still someone he knew, right?

Hearing that Wu Dali died so tragically, even the people like Cuntou who usually bullied him felt guilty. However, Li Yuan did not take his death to heart at all, and even felt that it was not as important as his sleep.

Even the heartless idiots like the crew cut felt chilled after hearing this, and even felt a sense of grief for the loss of a rabbit.

The next second, Li Yuan started coughing violently again. His facial features were almost wrinkled into a ball, his eyebrows were tightly locked together. He opened his mouth to breathe, but was interrupted by uncontrollable coughing. His whole body collapsed due to coughing.

After finally stopping his cough, Li Yuan spat on the ground. The man with a crew cut noticed that there seemed to be blood in the sputum.

He suddenly remembered what the commander had said to the soldiers guarding the quarantine area when he had brought them there:

"If you find any of them showing symptoms of illness, report to the communication tent immediately!"

Seeing Li Yuan, who started to cough up blood and looked as pale as death, the crew cut felt nervous. Could it be that the leader was just trying to scare them?

He thought about it carefully again. Li Yuan was the only one who ate four legs of the roasted lamb. Now he was coughing so badly. Could it be that there was something wrong with the lamb he ate?

The more he thought about it, the more frightened he became. He quickly took a few steps away from Li Yuan and said in panic:

"Boss, you're coughing so badly. Could it be that what the commander said is true? Is there really something wrong with that sheep? Will you get sick if you eat it?"

"You're the one who's sick!"

Li Yuan was coughing so hard that he could hardly breathe. Then he heard the man with the crew cut saying that he was sick in a panic. He was so angry that he wanted to stand up and kick him, but as soon as he tried, he felt dizzy and could only close his eyes and lean against the tree trunk to breathe heavily.

Seeing that Li Yuan couldn't even stand up, the man with the crew cut was panicked. What the leader was talking about was a very serious infectious disease, and he didn't want to be infected by Li Yuan!

He quickly covered his mouth and nose, stepped back a few steps and shouted:

"Boss, you must be sick. I'll tell the chief and ask him to call a doctor to see you!"

Without waiting for Li Yuan's reaction, he ran to the edge of the quarantine area and shouted to the soldiers guarding not far away:

"Commander! Commander! Someone here is sick!"
