Chapter 8 Uncovering the Traitor

Inside the mourning hall, Liu Dayong, with his shifty eyes, glanced outside the door. Once he was sure everyone had left, a smug smile suddenly appeared on his face.

He walked up to Jiang Chengfeng's coffin in a few steps, his eyes sinister. "General, a good bird chooses its tree to roost in. I've followed you for so many years and only become a deputy general. Don't blame me. You're gone now. Leave the Flying Feather Army's military seal to me. Don't worry, I will take good care of the Flying Feather Army for you."

He was about to push the coffin lid when he said that, "Liu Dayong?"

A cool, clear female voice rang out, "My father treated you well back then, didn't he? Why did you give up your good position as deputy general to try and harm my parents?"

Jiang Luoluo emerged from behind a hidden door in the main hall. Liu Dayong was so startled that he backed away, exclaiming, "Miss, you...you weren't already unconscious!"

"If I didn't faint, how could I have seen such a heartless side of you?" Jiang Luoluo walked straight over.

Niu Dayong's face contorted with rage. "I never imagined that the young lady, whom everyone calls a good-for-nothing, would have such a meticulous mind."

Suddenly, he pulled out a dagger and stabbed it fiercely at Jiang Luoluo, saying, "So what? Go to hell and join your parents!"

Jiang Luoluo stopped and threw a packet of chili powder from her hand, which flew straight into Liu Dayong's eyes.

Liu Dayong covered his eyes and screamed. Dingdang kicked him hard in the knee from behind, and Liu Dayong fell to his knees.

He felt a burning pain in his eyes, and his vision became increasingly blurry. He threw the dagger in his hand and smashed it directly at the candlestick.

With a loud bang, the flames on the candlestick shot high into the air, quickly engulfing a patch of flames. It was unexpected that Liu Dayong had this trick up his sleeve. His original plan was to obtain the military tally, set fire to the mourning hall, and then injure himself in the fire, so that no one would suspect anything.

Unexpectedly, Jiang Luoluo, the oriole unaware of the mantis stalking the cicada, was the one stalking the oriole behind. Jiang Luoluo and Dingdang exchanged a glance, and Dingdang suddenly kicked Liu Dayong hard in the head, knocking him unconscious.

Dingdang and Jiang Luoluo rushed forward and opened the coffin. Jiang Chengfeng and his wife climbed out. Jiang Luoluo hugged Duanmu Ling tightly and said with a sob, "Mother, the stitches will be removed in two days. Please remember to be careful on your way to Jiaozhou with Father."

Duanmu Ling patted Jiang Luoluo on the back and comforted her, "Luoluo has grown up, so I can rest assured. Your father and I will have your brother's caravan send you a message. You and Dingdang must also be careful in everything you do."

The fire grew fiercer and fiercer. Jiang Luoluo nodded heavily, forcing herself not to let her tears fall.

Jiang Chengfeng, carrying a bundle on his back and holding Duanmu Ling's hand with one hand, waved goodbye to Jiang Luoluo. Their figures quickly disappeared through the hidden door.

Jiang Luoluo turned around, tears streaming down her face. In the firelight, her small face was stubborn and determined as she tightly gripped the small military token in her hand.

Dingdang and Jiang Luoluo split up. Dingdang dragged Liu Dayong outside, shouting as they went, "Come quick, put out the fire! Come quick, put out the fire! The mourning hall for Madam and Master is on fire!"

Jiang Luoluo took out a bottle of kerosene and began spraying it into the corner. A cold wind slowly blew in, sparks flew, and everything soaked in the kerosene quickly caught fire.

Jiang Luoluo glanced at the entire mourning hall. One of the coffins was still burning. She lifted her foot and ran towards that coffin. The fire grew bigger and bigger, as if it would devour Luoluo.

Jiang Luoluo's gaze was firm and fearless. Only when everything here was reduced to ashes could her parents be given a new life.

Suddenly, a figure in black leaped in through the hidden door. His strong hand gripped Jiang Luoluo's shoulder, and his indifferent voice rebuked, "Are you out of your mind?"

Jiang Luoluo was caught off guard and forced to stop. Without thinking, she instinctively opened her mouth and bit hard at the hand that was holding his shoulder. She wanted to get the coffin burning as soon as possible.

He heard a hissing sound from behind, but the strength he used to hold Jiang Luoluo increased even more. He kicked out and sent the kerosene bottle flying from Jiang Luoluo's hand.

The kerosene bottle landed squarely on the unburnt coffin, and instantly flames erupted, engulfing the entire mourning hall in a raging inferno. Jiang Luoluo's heart, which had been in her throat, finally settled down.

Jiang Luoluo patted her chest and murmured, "Thank goodness!"

Immediately, shouts erupted from outside: "Put out the fire! Put out the fire!"

Hearing the voice approaching, Jiang Luoluo didn't have time to think and hurriedly pulled the man's robe behind her, "Hurry, hurry, keep up! If you're even a step slower, you'll lose your life here."

Xie Yizhi twitched his lips. He was so angry he almost laughed. Whose life had almost been lost just now?

The hidden door led directly to a side room. Jiang Luoluo stopped and turned around, only to be met with a face as handsome and elegant as if carved from jade.

The person dressed in black robes had sword-like eyebrows and bright eyes, his eyes as deep as the Milky Way, with slightly upturned corners, his gaze sharp as a dangerous edge, carrying an aura that could not be violated.

With broad shoulders and a narrow waist, a piece of black jade hung at his waist. As his clothes fluttered, he exuded an aura of iron and blood. However, even the small gesture of pausing and raising his eyes revealed the spirit of someone who had been through countless battles, like a sharp sword that had been tempered and was ready to be drawn at any moment.

Jiang Luoluo's bright, star-like eyes stared intently at the person before her.

She knew this man wasn't the male lead in the book, yet the author showed him such favoritism that the male lead could hardly match his aura and demeanor.

Jiang Luoluo looked at him and saw that his 206 bones, 639 muscles, 23 craniofacial bones, 7 cervical vertebrae, and 12 thoracic vertebrae were all perfectly formed, and must have been sculpted by Nuwa herself.

The man gently tugged at his sleeve with his long, slender fingers, revealing a row of neat teeth marks on the back of his hand.

Jiang Luoluo forced a smile, revealing a row of neat upper teeth, and apologized, "It happened so suddenly, I had no choice. Please don't take offense, young master. I'll cover your medical expenses."

The man frowned, but Jiang Luoluo patted her chest and assured him, "Don't worry, I will never leave you with a scar."

As Jiang Luoluo spoke, her mind raced. This person had witnessed what happened tonight, and it was unclear whether he was friend or foe. Perhaps she should poison him to use as leverage in the future.

Just as Jiang Luoluo was pondering, the man pointed to her hand again, his thin lips parted slightly, and his voice was cold, "Military talisman."

Upon hearing those two words, Jiang Luoluo's smile vanished, and she mustered all her strength to run towards the door.

He revealed his true colors so quickly. She thought this person wanted to save her, but it turned out he was after the military seal.

Xie Yizhi leaped up and blocked the doorway. With a thud, Jiang Luoluo's head slammed heavily into Xie Yizhi's chest.

A voice as cold as a spring came from above Jiang Luoluo's head, "Why are you running? Didn't you tell me to come?"
