Chapter 6 White Chocolate "You should try it."
Looking back at Gu Yinyan's performance at the time, he was just very calm and didn't show much emotion.
Even the tone of voice remained consistent from beginning to end.
He didn't join her in condemning Xie Yun, that scoundrel, nor did he press her for more details, nor did he offer words of comfort like "don't be sad" or "there are plenty of men in the world."
Liang Yizhi suddenly felt that sometimes his consistently calm tone was quite nice, as it made people feel that no matter what happened, it wasn't a big deal and you didn't need to panic at all.
For her, Gu Yinyan's existence was somewhat like a stick of incense lit in a temple.
It stood straight in the incense ash.
It burns quietly and silently.
The scent makes me feel at ease.
In front of Gu Yinyan, she didn't need to pretend or hide anything. She could lay herself completely bare, and he was someone she could trust. Even if the whole world deceived him, she believed that Gu Yinyan was the only one who would be honest with her.
That's the source of her confidence to believe.
A light drizzle was falling all the way.
Gu Yinyan was driving when he glanced at Liang Yizhi out of the corner of his eye.
She sat upright beside him, her head resting against the pillow, gazing faintly out the window, revealing her long, fair neck.
Liang Yizhi wore only a fitted cardigan under her coat, revealing her slender collarbone at the neckline, which exuded a chill.
Gu Yinyan was about to offer to take her home when Liang Yizhi spoke up:
"Gu Yinyan".
"I want to go somewhere."
Gu Yinyan drove to the address Liang Yizhi had given him and stopped.
This is a very large bar with two floors. There is an outdoor garden on the first floor and a terrace on the second floor that is open after 8 p.m. every night.
The store was playing beautiful R&B melodies, and people in the center of the dance floor were swaying gently as they brushed past each other.
They went up the stairs to the second floor.
I was lucky today. The terrace should have been closed on a rainy day, but perhaps God took pity on me, because the rain stopped halfway through the journey. The terrace will be reopened after a simple cleaning.
I sat down at the booth.
Liang Yizhi said, "I saw this store online and always wanted to come but never did. I heard that the alcohol here is not very strong, but the taste is very special."
Holding the wine list, she asked Gu Yinyan, "Is there anything you'd like to drink?"
Gu Yinyan didn't care: "Either is fine."
"Then I'll be watching."
Gu Yinyan didn't expect that Liang Yizhi's "take it as you see fit" meant ordering all the wines on the wine list in order.
The waiter brought the drinks, making several trips back and forth. Finally, there were more than twenty glasses on the last square table, all kinds of them.
Gu Yinyan glanced at him and raised an eyebrow: "I thought you just wanted to drown your sorrows, but I didn't expect you to be here to drink excessively."
"Neither." Liang Yizhi picked up a glass of wine, put it in his hand, and then held up another glass to him.
"It's a celebration."
How could staying away from scumbags and becoming single again be something to be sad about?
Gu Yinyan stared at Liang Yizhi for a long while, then lowered his eyes, tilted his glass, and gently touched Liang Yizhi's glass.
The slight crackling sound was drowned out by the music in the bar.
They took turns, from left to right, tasting each cup one after another. Black glutinous rice, snow pear, salted egg yolk… each cup offered a different flavor. Liang Yizhi, who didn't drink often, found it all very novel.
Midway through, Gu Yinyan took the wine to the terrace to answer a phone call, which took a while.
Liang Yizhi sat alone in her original seat when the sofa next to her suddenly sank slightly.
She looked up and saw a man's face that was unfamiliar but rather handsome.
The other person smiled and asked her, "There's so much wine here, can I have a drink with you?"
Liang Yizhi felt a little dizzy, but she was still conscious.
She asked, "Are you sure you want to drink with me?"
The man smiled: "If you don't want to drink, you can do something else."
Liang Yizhi smiled too.
Just as the man was about to put his hand on her thigh, Liang Yizhi leaned closer to him on her own.
He was taken aback, not expecting her to take the initiative. He felt her close to his ear, her warm breath from the alcohol spraying against his earlobe, making him feel a tingling sensation.
The man's heart skipped a beat as he heard Liang Yizhi say to him:
"...Get out of here."
"..."
She didn't give him another glance.
Liang Yizhi stood up and went straight to the terrace.
When Gu Yinyan hung up the phone, he noticed that Liang Yizhi was standing behind him, and it seemed that she had been waiting for a while.
Her cheeks were flushed; she must have drunk too many kinds of alcohol, and she was getting dizzy faster than usual. She felt lightheaded as she walked towards him.
"Why did you take so long on the phone..."
She held the wine glass and swirled it in front of Gu Yinyan, handing it to him. "This white chocolate liqueur is quite unique. You should try it."
Gu Yinyan looked at those fair and delicate hands, then handed over the wine glass.
The store's lighting reflected off the glass walls and cast chaotic shadows on the dark brown liquid.
He coldly declined, saying, "You drink it yourself."
"Just try a sip, it's really delicious. I'm not kidding."
She raised the glass to her lips and took another small sip, as if to double-check that the taste was right.
It tastes really good.
Liang Yizhi licked her lips with the tip of her tongue and smacked her lips to savor the taste.
Liang Yizhi's thoughts were simple; she just wanted to share this glass of wine with him. She and Gu Yinyan were so familiar with each other; it was just a glass of wine, and there was no need to distinguish who had drunk it and who hadn't. It wasn't like they only had one sip.
Gu Yinyan declined twice, but found that the slightly drunk Liang Yizhi was extremely stubborn.
He pondered for a moment, then finally took the glass, tilted his head back, and took a small sip.
The cool liquid enters the mouth and becomes smooth and sweet on the tip of the tongue, but the taste is nothing like what wine should taste like.
A very girly glass of sweet wine.
Gu Yinyan naturally didn't like it very much.
He handed the glass back to her and noticed that Liang Yizhi had been staring at him.
Gu Yinyan asked, "What are you thinking about?"
A bar facing the street was set up on the terrace. Liang Yizhi leaned against it, feeling the refreshing breeze. Because of the rain, the fragrance of osmanthus blossoms wafting from downstairs was even stronger, carrying a hint of dampness.
She looked at the tall, handsome man in front of her and said, "Someone just came up to me and started chatting me up."
"Is that so?" Gu Yinyan replied.
"How did you get rid of him?"
"I told him to get lost."
Gu Yinyan glanced at her.
Liang Yizhi was clearly drunk. The wind blew by, lifting her long hair by her ears, which fluttered behind her, revealing the shimmering light on her earlobes and ear cartilage.
Her eyes were still dry from crying earlier, and when the wind blew, tears welled up in her eyes again, about to fall.
"But now I'm starting to regret it."
Liang Yizhi squinted her eyes.
Gu Yinyan's expression was indifferent. He glanced over and tightened his grip on the glass with his long, slender fingers.
The knuckles moved slightly beneath the thin skin and flesh, and the veins on the back of the long, thin hand were slightly raised.
"Why?" he asked.
"It's just a feeling. Actually, I can give it a try, can't I?" Liang Yizhi rested her elbows on the bar, propped her face up, and gently swirled the liquid in her glass.
In the distance, there was an empty asphalt road, lit by dim streetlights. It was almost midnight, and all the shops on the opposite street had their doors tightly shut, creating a scene of utter silence.
There weren't many people on the terrace. Liang Yizhi's mind was clearly clouded; the lingering pain of the breakup, amplified by alcohol, was now flaring up again.
"Gu Yinyan," she asked earnestly.
"I've always been curious, why are some people always able to start a relationship so casually?"
It begins impulsively and ends carelessly.
If you throw your sincerity and bottom line to the ground and crush them, all that will be left is a mess.
Liang Yizhi: "If...if I let go of those so-called constraints, would I be less likely to get hurt?"
If she were like them, and let go of her inhibitions and not take everything and everyone so seriously, wouldn't she be in less pain?
"People need to learn self-control." The evening breeze ruffled Gu Yinyan's bangs, revealing his sharp eyebrows and eyes. "Letting desires run wild and pursuing thrills is something only animals do."
Gu Yinyan's voice was low, his eyes clear: "Liang Yizhi, don't act rashly."
His words carried a certain warning tone.
Liang Yizhi suddenly regretted sharing the drink with him earlier, and felt a tightness in her chest.
She didn't like listening to Gu Yinyan spout grand theories like a rational observer.
He was clearly her good friend.
Why can't he always stand by her side unconditionally and always support all her ideas?
"The higher-ups?"
Liang Yizhi smiled, her laughter soft: "I'm not excited at all right now. I'm very serious."
Gu Yinyan didn't understand what she was laughing at.
She was truly drunk.
Liang Yizhi felt that the wine was really good. She felt that the wind was gentle, she felt lighter, and all her worries were blown away.
She cherishes her feelings and values every passerby in her life with whom she has shared experiences. She views love as something beautiful and doesn't want it to quickly evolve into sex; she always thinks about developing feelings first.
But those people turned her into a joke.
Liang Yizhi discovered that the pure feelings she cherished were as insignificant as weeds to others.
She suddenly felt a kind of inexplicable rebellious feeling.
Since nobody cares, let's just let it all go.
She slammed her glass down hard, the sound deafening, and solemnly addressed Gu Yinyan, or rather, everyone on the terrace:
"I don't care! What bullshit 'pure love' stuff! I quit!"
"This year, I'm going to play with flowers!!"
Hearing the noise, the other guests on the terrace all turned to look at Liang Yizhi.
Liang Yizhi doesn't care about other people's opinions.
If everyone can do it, why can't she?
Gu Yinyan didn't speak, he just looked at her, his eyes slightly dark and unfathomable.
He knew that Liang Yizhi was not in a good state of mind and did not comment much on her bold words.
Gu Yinyan held the wine in his hand, lowered his eyes, took a sip, and replied calmly, "Give it a try."
