Chapter 7 Aftermath
Blood rushed to her head, and after uttering these bold words, Liang Yizhi, face upturned, glass in hand, leaned straight back—
Gu Yinyan took a step closer, put one arm around her waist, and held her firmly.
Indeed, getting drunk and acting crazy is an inevitable path for heartbroken people.
The statement that "the alcohol here isn't very strong" was more like a joke.
Gu Yinyan paid the bill, put the person in the car, and called a designated driver.
Liang Yizhi was still able to chatter away the whole way, so Gu Yinyan judged that although she was drunk, she should still retain some consciousness.
They were sitting in the back seat. When they arrived, Gu Yinyan got out of the car first, then went around to the other side to let Liang Yizhi get out.
He had just walked around to the car door when all the car windows were rolled down without him noticing.
Liang Yizhi rested her arms on the windowsill, her chin on her arms, and looked at him with a smile.
"Gu Yinyan, are you home?" She even waved to him, "Bye-bye—"
Gu Yinyan remained silent, ruthlessly pulling open the car door while simultaneously supporting the unsteady Liang Yizhi with one hand.
"You've arrived. Get down."
He had just pulled the person out of the car when a tall, slender figure swayed and walked towards them from a distance: "What's going on? Why did you call someone out in the middle of the night?"
He Man, dressed in pajamas and slippers, stood straight in the night wind, seemingly unafraid of the cold.
As she approached, she saw the drunken Liang Yizhi and shouted, "Where have you been drinking? Didn't you take me with you?"
He Man bent down, quickly bringing her nose close to Liang Yizhi's, and asked, scrutinizing her closely:
"You didn't force-feed this, did you?"
"Stop making sarcastic remarks." Gu Yinyan pushed the person towards her. "Take her away."
He Man put her arm around Liang Yizhi's shoulder, still feeling confused.
It was one in the morning when she arrived home and received a call from Gu Yinyan, asking her to come out and pick someone up. Rarely seeing Liang Yizhi so drunk, she was somewhat worried and asked:
"What's wrong with her today? Why did she drink so much?"
“She broke up with Xie Yun.” Gu Yinyan glanced at Liang Yizhi, who was standing crookedly, and said, “As for the specific reasons, she can tell you herself when she’s sober.”
"It's not convenient for me to go into her house, and I'm also afraid Xie Yun will come looking for her tomorrow. Let her stay with you for a couple of days."
After listening to Gu Yinyan's words, He Man's mouth slowly opened into an "O" shape. She was still unclear about the ins and outs of the matter. Recalling their conversation last night, she carefully reviewed her words and wondered if she had said anything wrong.
He Man said, "Okay, I understand. It's getting late, you should head back soon."
She waved her hand and dragged Liang Yizhi upstairs.
Gu Yinyan stood there, watching their backs disappear into the elevator of the apartment building.
He turned around and got into the car only after the lights went out.
-
Xie Yun's condition is very bad.
That day at the Western restaurant, Xie Yun knelt down in front of Liang Yizhi, apologized to her, and begged for her forgiveness.
However, the other party turned out to be heartless and remained unmoved no matter what he said.
Upon returning home, Xie Yun discovered that Liang Yizhi had blocked all his contact methods, making it impossible for him to reach her.
Is it really over for them?
He didn't believe it.
He bet that if Liang Yizhi, a soft-hearted person, were just a little more sincere and showed his determination, she would definitely change her mind.
The next day before going to work, Xie Yun went to wait at Liang Yizhi's door again.
He rang the doorbell, but no one answered. He tried calling, but couldn't reach them. He waited and waited, but the clock-in time had passed, and he knew he would lose his full attendance bonus if he didn't come to the company soon. He glanced resentfully at the rooftop and left dejectedly.
That day, Xie Yun couldn't concentrate on her work, couldn't eat, and kept receiving various messages from Zhao Ling, who kept changing her number.
Xie Yun's mind was about to explode.
It's all her fault. If it weren't for her, how could Liang Yizhi have discovered their affair?
Xie Yun ate lunch with her colleagues, but she was distracted, picking through the food on her plate with her chopsticks.
His phone vibrated, and he didn't want to answer it at first, but then he worried that it might be Liang Yizhi contacting him, so he took it out to look at it.
To his surprise, what he received was a photo of the Mingju Building sent by Zhao Ling.
He lost his grip on the chopsticks and they clattered onto the table.
Colleagues cast glances his way. Xie Yun made an excuse, saying he remembered he hadn't handed in a task yet, and hurriedly left with the plate in his hand.
He went downstairs, spotted Zhao Ling at a glance, and made sure there were no other familiar colleagues around. Xie Yun quickly stepped forward, took Zhao Ling's hand, and led her to a corner.
"Are you crazy?" Xie Yun exclaimed angrily. "What are you doing here?"
"What are you afraid of?" Zhao Ling glanced at him. "Nobody here knows about our relationship. On the contrary, you're the one who brought me here, which only makes people more suspicious, okay?"
Xie Yun sneered: "So what exactly do you want? Thanks to you, Liang Yizhi has already broken up with me!"
"You broke up?" Zhao Ling's face lit up with joy. "Then even if she's sensible, you have even less reason to end our relationship."
Xie Yun looked somber. Zhao Ling leaned over and patted his cheek. "Cheer up."
Xie Yun turned his face away, strongly resisting her touch: "Zhao Ling, it's really over between us. It was a mistake from the start."
"A mistake?" Zhao Ling sneered, her eyes filled with sarcasm.
"Xie Yun, have you forgotten what you said? You said my figure is much better than Liang Yizhi's, and that I'm not like Liang Yizhi who won't let anyone touch me. I have recordings of all those words. Do you want to hear how lewd you were back then?"
Xie Yun stared at her, not expecting Zhao Ling to have such a trick up her sleeve.
Zhao Ling wasn't finished speaking, and vented her anger: "What? She wouldn't let you touch her, but now that you've broken up, she's become your white moonlight? I'm just a pair of worn-out shoes, right?"
"Xie Yun, do you know what your problem is? You're just too cowardly! You don't dare touch Liang Yizhi, afraid of losing her cash cow, so you only dare to target me! You've done something wrong, and now you don't dare to take responsibility. Is there such a good thing in the world?"
Xie Yun fell completely silent. He wanted to retort, but after opening his mouth, he couldn't utter a single word.
Zhao Ling: "Anyway, we can't be friends anymore. You can only leave when I'm tired of you. Otherwise, you can expect to become the talk of the company."
With Zhao Ling's initial show of force, Xie Yun's day became even more unbearable. He opened and closed documents on his computer, unable to concentrate on anything. A task that should have taken half a day had dragged on for a whole day without any progress.
He was preoccupied with something, afraid that Zhao Ling would do something outrageous again, worried that she would go to Liang Yizhi, and he couldn't calm down no matter what.
Finally, it's almost time to leave work. There's a routine weekly meeting after get off work today, and Xie Yun, as the team leader, should attend and give a report.
But he simply couldn't wait any longer.
His colleague came over and said to him, "Team leader, I've sent the data I've compiled. Please check your inbox."
He saw Xie Yun hurriedly packing his things and asked in confusion, "Team leader, is something wrong?"
"Something came up, so I won't be participating in today's weekly meeting. I'll make it up after the report."
"But--"
Before his colleague could finish speaking, Xie Yun had already grabbed his phone and coat and left.
It's almost six o'clock.
Colleagues from various departments took their laptops, entered the conference room, and sat at opposite ends of a long table.
Today we're having a group presentation, and everyone's staring at the files on their computers, mentally summarizing their thoughts.
When the time was up, the meeting room door was opened again.
Gu Yinyan was always very punctual. He strode in, followed by Xiao Tang.
I don't get to see this CEO Gu much at the company; his powerful aura makes the air in the room feel thin.
"Is everyone here?" Gu Yinyan asked first.
Colleagues from different departments looked at each other, but no one dared to say a word.
Gu Yinyan sat down at one end of the long table and glanced at everyone in the conference room.
He immediately sensed something was wrong, frowned, and asked in a low voice, "Where is Xie Yun?"
After a few seconds of silence in the room, Li Mo, the last person to have met Xie Yun, spoke up: "The team leader said he has something to do."
"Personal matters or business matters?"
"Well... I'm not too sure about that."
Gu Yinyan looked to his side: "Xiao Tang, didn't you properly notify them?"
Secretary Tang: "I sent an email to all employees at noon to confirm that the notification was delivered."
The meeting room was completely silent.
A few employees exchanged glances discreetly.
They did receive an email in the afternoon saying that the big boss would be attending the weekly meeting today, and they didn't know why Xie Yun dared to skip work at this crucial moment.
Li Mo inwardly wiped a bead of sweat from his brow. He had assumed the team leader had followed the proper leave application procedure, but now it seemed...
Thinking of this, the kind-hearted Li Mo raised his hand again and cautiously said, "President Gu, let me call Team Leader Xie again now. He might really have something urgent to discuss..."
“No need,” Gu Yinyan rejected his suggestion.
"Or is it that you can't report it because he's not here?"
Gu Yinyan's voice was calm, yet it carried an invisible pressure.
Li Mo looked flustered, his back instantly straightening: "No, I can report it!"
Gu Yinyan said no more: "Then let's begin."
