Chapter 375 What exactly do you want to do?
When Zhou Mubin came out of the Japanese restaurant, he felt no warmth despite it being the sweltering summer day.
He smoked half a pack of cigarettes on the spot, his tightly furrowed brows still unable to relax.
His deep gaze slowly turned to the tall building not far away, the words "Asia Pacific Group" reflected in his pupils, his gaze growing ever more intense.
Meanwhile, Mo Ziqian had already sent Cui Xiao back to the company.
The two stood at the company entrance. Mo Ziqian could tell that Cui Xiao was in a bad mood. "Should you ask for leave and go home to rest?"
Cui Xiao shook her head. "It's alright."
Then, as if remembering something, she added, "By the way, is there no room for negotiation regarding your job transfer?"
Mo Ziqian gently ruffled her long hair and comforted her, "Don't worry about me, take care of yourself. However, I'm afraid we won't be able to see each other for a while."
From the port city to the county town, this is no different from the old days of being sent down to the countryside.
Cui Xiao frowned slightly, a barely perceptible hint of emotion flickering in her eyes. "Ziqian, have you ever thought about being with me..."
Perhaps sensing what Cui Xiao was about to say, Mo Ziqian interrupted her in time, "Xiao Xiao, don't overthink it."
Meeting her eyes, Mo Ziqian's expression was full of tenderness. "Go to work. Call me if you need anything."
The words "break up" were left unsaid, and Cui Xiao didn't know what else to say. "Okay, drive carefully on the road."
Mo Ziqian waved goodbye to her.
Cui Xiao drove Mo Ziqian's car away before turning around and walking into the building.
In the afternoon, Cui Xiao was organizing reports when the receptionist downstairs called, "Secretary Cui, a Mr. Zhou downstairs is looking for you."
She couldn't think of anyone else surnamed Zhou besides Zhou Mubin.
Without a second thought, Cui Xiao resolutely replied, "Tell him I don't have time today."
"OK."
The receptionist hung up the phone, a sweet smile playing on her lips. "I'm sorry, sir, Secretary Cui is very busy today and doesn't have time to see you."
Zhou Mubin put his hands in his pockets, a slight smile playing on his lips, and said, "I understand."
Zhou Mubin didn't intend to force his way in or cause her any trouble. He politely found a sofa in the lobby, sat down, and waited patiently.
Two hours passed, and Zhou Mubin still showed no sign of leaving. The receptionist secretly called Cui Xiao, "Secretary Cui, that gentleman hasn't left yet."
Cui Xiao didn't think Zhou Mubin was a particularly patient person, so the fact that he was still downstairs surprised her somewhat.
"Ignore him."
Around 4 PM, the weather turned against us, and a torrential downpour began.
It didn't stop until the end of the workday.
One by one, everyone left work, but Zhou Mubin remained sitting there without moving.
The heavy rain caused water to accumulate on the ground, and the rain showed no signs of stopping.
It wasn't until seven o'clock, when it got dark, that Cui Xiao came out of the elevator.
The moment I came out, I saw Zhou Mubin sitting there, the dim light making his angular profile even more striking.
His gaze slowly turned over, meeting Cui Xiao's eyes. He subconsciously stood up and went to meet her.
Cui Xiao's steps suddenly stopped at the elevator entrance, her fingertips unconsciously gripping the shoulder strap of her handbag, her knuckles turning bluish-white.
She never expected Zhou Mubin to wait so long. From 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., five hours of torrential rain couldn't dredge him up.
Only one lamp remained in the corner of the hall, its dim light enveloping his figure. Although he should have been blurry, the straight curve of his shoulders as he stood up and the steady steps he took as he approached her were strikingly clear.
Cui Xiao paused, her steps neither forward nor backward.
She spoke first, her face hardening and her tone becoming even colder, "Zhou Mubin, what exactly do you want?"
Zhou Mubin stopped two steps away from her, the sleeves of his black shirt rolled up to his forearms.
He didn't answer, but instead his gaze fell on her tightly pursed lips, his tone as calm as if he were saying something completely ordinary, "Pick you up from get off work."
Cui Xiao remained silent, turned around and walked towards the glass door, her high heels clicking rapidly on the marble floor.
Then, footsteps followed closely behind, more steady and more imposing than her own. "Going home, or going to eat?"
His voice was right next to my ear, carrying the slight chill of a rainy night, "Let's eat first, it's so late, how about we go for your favorite Cantonese food?"
"I don't like Cantonese food."
Cui Xiao suddenly turned around, finally losing her temper. "Zhou Mubin, I don't like Cantonese food, I don't like bland food, I never have. I was just accommodating you before, did you really think I was going to accommodate you for the rest of my life? Oh, I remember now, Liu Xiaojie seems to really like Cantonese food. You two are birds of a feather, why don't you ask her to come with you? I think Liu Xiaojie would be more than willing."
Her words were like a pebble thrown into water, but they didn't cause much of a ripple on Zhou Mubin's face.
He just looked at her, his gaze as deep as the rainy night outside the window. "If you don't like it, then don't eat it. Change it to something you like."
Cui Xiao felt like she had punched cotton; it didn't hurt or itch at all.
Cui Xiao turned and rushed out with a sullen face.
The moment she pushed open the glass door, a gust of cold wind mixed with rain rushed in. She instinctively shrank her neck, but still rushed into the rain without hesitation.
The rain was still falling, a little lighter than in the evening, but still heavy, and it quickly soaked my shirt.
The cold fabric pressed against her back, and Cui Xiao couldn't help but shiver, but she didn't stop walking. She just wanted to get rid of Zhou Mubin as soon as possible and get as far away from him as possible.
Before she even reached the car, her wrist was grabbed from behind.
Zhou Mubin's palm was warm, but his strength was just enough to keep her from breaking free.
Cui Xiao turned around and saw that his hair was wet with rain, with a few strands sticking to his full forehead. His usually sharp eyebrows were softened by the rain and mist, but the stubbornness in his tone remained unchanged, "In such heavy rain, don't you know how to use an umbrella?"
Zhou Mubin held up a black umbrella, and raindrops fell on it, the "pitter-patter" sound finally bringing a touch of restlessness to the quiet night.
Cui Xiao tried to shake his wrist, but Zhou Mubin gripped it even tighter. "Zhou Mubin, let go. Even if I catch a cold, it has nothing to do with you."
"How can it be unrelated?"
He took a step closer, instantly closing the distance between them. The crisp, cool air mixed with the rain made him inexplicably uneasy. "Cui Xiao, I waited for five hours, not to watch you get soaked in the rain."
Water droplets streamed down Cui Xiao's face, indistinguishable between rain and tears. "Now that you're gone, I won't get wet." Zhou Mubin looked at her still indifferent expression, and unconsciously tightened his grip on her wrist.
He was silent for a few seconds, then suddenly took off his suit jacket and forced her to put it on.
The fabric, still warm from his body, wrapped around her icy shoulders, instantly dispelling some of the chill. But Cui Xiao panicked even more, raising her hand to pull off her coat. "Take your clothes off."
