Chapter 45 Breaking Free
After the family doctor examined Zhu Fan's foot, the old lady got up and told everyone to go back to their rooms to rest.
Zhu Fan was carried upstairs by her father.
She nestled on her father's back, her heart feeling as warm as if it were being roasted by the fire in a winter fireplace.
Before transmigrating into the book, she only had her maternal grandmother as family. Her grandmother gave her so much love, and even though she lived without parents for nineteen years, she was still a happy child. But sometimes, seeing other families enjoying each other's happiness, she would wonder what it would be like if she had parents by her side.
Her imagination has now become reality.
She has a father and mother now.
May Fan smile with happiness.
She is really lucky.
"Afan, does your foot still hurt a lot?"
When her father asked her, Zhu Fan rested her chin on his shoulder and shook her head.
Zhu Linjun said with a smile, "The last time Dad carried you on his back was on your 11th birthday."
“Our Afan hasn’t been able to act spoiled with his parents for a long time.”
The precious pearl they held in their palms has grown up without them even realizing it. This pearl is now more dazzling and radiant than when it was held in their hands.
Meng Yin looked at the father and daughter walking ahead, her eyes slightly reddening, but her heart was warm.
After saying goodnight to her parents, Zhu Fan noticed Meng Yin glancing at A Yuan's room from time to time. "A Yuan should be asleep by now."
Meng Yin's eyes were filled with guilt and regret. "I had no idea that A-Yuan had suffered so much."
Zhu Linjun hugged his wife and said, "It's too late today, let the children rest first."
The door was gently closed.
Zhu Fan changed into her pajamas, lay in bed feeling very sleepy, but couldn't fall asleep.
The sound of Zhu Ci sobbing softly as she returned to her room reached Zhu Fan's ears through the door.
The phone next to my pillow lit up briefly.
Fang Qizhou: [Arrived home]
Zhu Fan replied with a "received" emoji and then sent a "goodnight" message.
After thinking about it, I sent a picture of a kitten making a heart shape with its hands.
Almost immediately, Fang Qizhou's video popped up.
Zhu Fan tucked her chin under the covers, her eyes stinging from Fang Qizhou's dripping hair and bare upper body.
In the video, water is still dripping from the showerhead.
"Fang Qizhou, why are you showing me a video while you're taking a shower?"
"Didn't you take a shower when you brought me back?"
Fang Qizhou had just calmed down his agitation by rinsing it with cold water, but the girl's soft voice reignited his restlessness.
He stared at Zhu Fan on the screen, his dark eyes deep and calm. "Goodnight."
Zhu Fan laughed out loud and hung up the video call.
This person video-called her just to say goodnight.
She clicked on Fang Qizhou's pure black profile picture.
This person didn't even have a WeChat Moments account.
Zhu Wan: [Sister, are you asleep?]
F: [Not yet, are you coming to sleep with me?]
When Zhu Wan knocked on the door with a pillow in her arms, Zhu Fan had just changed his profile picture.
It's a photo of a white Samoyed puppy with an apple on its head in the sunlight.
She also saved a picture of a little orange cat balancing an apple on its head.
Zhu Fan, wearing slippers, limped over to open the door for A Yuan.
"Sister, you changed your profile picture."
Zhu Wan held up her phone and tapped on her profile picture, "So cute."
Zhu Fan sent her another picture, "Do you want to use this one?"
Zhu Wan exclaimed how cute it was, saved the picture instantly, and changed her profile picture immediately.
As she walked toward the bed, she noticed that her sister had injured her foot.
When Zhu Fan met Zhu Wan's concerned and inquiring gaze, she waved her hand and said, "This injured foot has already received enough treatment for one night."
They're practically being treated like royalty.
It's just a sprained ankle, it's really not that serious.
"It's nothing, I just twisted it a little."
Zhu Fan was stunned when Princess Zhu Wan picked him up.
Zhu Wan pursed her lips shyly.
"Ah Yuan, you're so strong! If anyone bullies you at school again, let them taste the power of your fists."
Zhu Wan blushed and said, "Fighting is not allowed at school."
Zhu Fan was charmed by Zhu Wan's earnest yet obedient words.
The two lay on the bed, with Zhu Wan lying upright.
Zhu Fan adjusted to a comfortable sleeping position and asked her, "How can you sleep well when you're so tense?"
Zhu Wan smelled the sweet fragrance on the tip of her nose and said, "You're a germaphobe, I'm afraid you'll find me repulsive."
Zhu Fan flicked Zhu Wan's forehead: "If I disliked you, I would ask you to come and sleep here."
Zhu Wan gradually relaxed and looked at her sister sideways: "Sister, your room smells so good, and the blankets smell so good too."
Zhu Fan leaned in and kissed her, "You smell nice too."
Zhu Wan sniffed herself but couldn't smell anything.
“At school, they said I smelled like a country bumpkin.”
"My sister is the first person to say that I smell nice."
Zhu Fan turned off the light. "A-Yuan, do you know what a butterfly is like before it emerges from its cocoon?"
"Caterpillar".
Zhu Fan smiled and said, "Yes, but a butterfly is a butterfly because it is a butterfly."
Zhu Wan was stunned for a moment.
Her sense of unworthiness and the inferiority complex brought about by her past environment were revealed by her sister.
Zhu Fan lay on her side on the pillow, cheek to cheek with A Yuan: "A Yuan, you are very good, I like you very much."
"Over the past seventeen years, you have been able to study diligently and achieve such excellent grades under such harsh and difficult conditions, which is truly remarkable. Moreover, you have always stayed true to yourself, remaining kind and pure."
Having been impersonated for seventeen years, she returned home and never mentioned the suffering and grievances she had endured during those seventeen years. Faced with Zhu Ci's attempts to win favor, she simply watched quietly. Even when hurt, she never actively considered hurting others.
But A-Yuan is not bad.
Tonight's counterattack was very satisfying.
Zhu Wan lowered her eyelashes and softly called out, "Sister."
Zhu Fan ruffled her hair: "What, are we going to hold hands and look at each other with tears in our eyes in bed?"
Zhu Wan chuckled softly, and the redness in her eyes faded.
All the grievances and sadness she felt at school that week dissipated in her sister's soft, warm bed.
The sisters chatted late into the night, seemingly with endless things to say.
This caused the two of them to stay up all the next morning, sleeping until almost noon.
Meng Yin was somewhat surprised to see the two sisters sleeping in the same bed.
Afan's obsession with cleanliness and dislike of sleeping in the same bed with others are habits he developed since childhood.
Even she, if she wanted to sleep in Afan's bed, had to ask first before she could lie down.
The two little girls were sleeping soundly, and Meng Yin couldn't bear to wake them.
She turned up the air conditioner temperature a bit. "Afan, Ayuan, wake up, the sun's already high in the sky."
Zhu Fan and Zhu Wan wake up as soon as they are called.
The two sisters threw off the covers, sat up, and rubbed their eyes in perfect unison, their eyes filled with the drowsiness and sleepiness of just waking up.
Meng Yin's heart was so tender it felt like it was melting.
After a night and a morning, Zhu Fan found that the swelling in her ankle had gone down and the pain had lessened.
When they left the room, Meng Yin was in Zhu Wan's room doing her makeup and hair.
Zhu Ci's door was tightly closed.
Time gave Zhu Fan no chance to dawdle. She quickly changed her clothes, picked up her cello, and went downstairs.
The villa's layout was stunningly beautiful.
The designer who set up the villa for today's party has finished his work.
The designer nodded in satisfaction.
Dreamy, cute, romantic—he brought every element to its fullest potential.
Zhu Fan met the designer's respectful gaze and nodded slightly.
Aunt Shu pulled out a chair in front of the dining table and served Zhu Fan a meal.
"The master said that after Miss finishes lunch, he will take her to class."
Zhu Fanchao put his hands together and said, "Please take me there, Aunt Shu. My father drives too slowly and will be late."
Zhu Linjun, feeling disliked by her daughter, stepped aside from the driver's seat.
Upon arrival, Zhu Fan, carrying her cello, hurriedly got out of the car.
Zhu Linjun, who was about to carry her daughter inside, turned around.
Zhu Fan has already entered the music store.
Zhu Fan felt that it would be very awkward if her father carried her in these few steps.
When she entered the music room, her teacher was already waiting for her.
I wish Teacher Fanchao an apology.
She arrived just in time; the teacher was in the classroom, so she was considered late.
The teacher's expression was indifferent. "I just arrived too. Let's begin."
The cello teacher is a national first-class performer and the principal cellist of the National Centre for the Performing Arts. Her standards and requirements are strict and high.
Zhu Fan came to practice the piano last Saturday, but she couldn't get into the zone and got scolded.
This time, she didn't start playing right away like she did last time.
The sunlight outside shone through the glass, falling on my fingertips and the strings.
Zhu Fan felt the sunlight and the cicadas chirping in the trees, and closed his eyes.
After playing "LOVE Letter," she felt she had gained a new understanding of the piece.
Zhu Fan put down her bow; the teacher was no longer in the music room.
She practiced for almost three hours instead of the usual two-hour violin lesson.
Aunt Shu came to pick her up when she got back.
My phone has many party photos that A-Yuan took for me.
As she looked at the photos, she talked to Aunt Shu, "Aunt Shu, let's go to the mall first."
She wanted to pick out a gift for A-Yuan.
