Chapter 8 Chinese New Year

As soon as she got home, Niu Cuihua asked Old Man Li to go to the east room. She didn't even see Li Aiguo greet her. After putting the things away, the old couple came out together to arrange dinner for everyone.

"Mom, what were you and Dad doing just now? You didn't even notice me saying hello to you," Li Aiguo asked after drinking a mouthful of porridge. As soon as he finished speaking, everyone in the room looked at Niu Cuihua.

Niu Cuihua looked at the curious faces of the young and old in the room and said, "It's nothing. That was arranged by your uncle. Don't worry about it. Come on and eat. After dinner, we'll make dumplings."

Everyone's attention was diverted when they heard about making dumplings. Although Li Aiguo was a little confused, he didn't say anything. After all, his mother had her own reasons for doing things.

After dinner, Niu Cuihua began to arrange the tasks, "You from the eldest family, chop the meat, and the third family, pick the vegetables and mix the dough. We will wrap it together when it's ready. The little ones, go out and play, and don't get in the way in the house." When the children heard that they could go out to play, they all ran out happily.

"By the way, Aiguo, you and your elder and third brothers should put up the door couplets to make it festive," Niu Cuihua instructed her three sons who were standing at the door.

Soon, Zhang Xiuzhi and Liu Zhaodi prepared the ingredients for making dumplings, and Niu Cuihua started to work with her two daughters-in-law. When it was almost noon, before the big-bellied dumplings were even put into the pot, the kitchen door was already surrounded by children, their mouths watering.

After the meal was ready, Niu Cuihua arranged for Zhang Huilan to receive a large bowl first, and then began to serve the others. At the dinner table, everyone in Old Li's family was beaming as they looked at the large, plump dumplings in their bowls. However, no one dared to pick up their chopsticks without Old Lady Li's order.

"The meat for the dumplings we eat today was sent by your uncle. You are taking advantage of your aunt. Shut your mouths, and don't tell anyone outside that we eat dumplings. Whoever tells will have no share in the future, especially Wumao. Remember this," Niu Cuihua said here and glared at Wumao.

"Mom, why do you only talk about the 50 cents party? Why don't you talk about others?" Liu Zhaodi looked angry and curled her lips.

"Why are you butting in when mom is talking?" Li Aimin glared at his wife.

"Okay, stop talking and start eating," said Niu Cuihua as she picked up her chopsticks and started eating.

In the west room, Zhang Huilan was also eating dumplings. Li Mingxi looked at his mother's happy face and felt more and more the poverty of this era. Eating dumplings was so blissful. Life was extremely difficult!

It has been almost a month since I came into this world. I gradually realized that these are the years when natural disasters are serious. It can be said that there are many people who are starving. My family's life is pretty good compared to others. Although the material conditions are far different from those in my previous life, I am already quite happy now that I have parents and family. Now I just need to grow up well.

After the family had lunch, Niu Cuihua began to instruct her two daughters-in-law to prepare the New Year’s Eve dinner. After all, this was the highlight.

Although the second son did not come back for the Chinese New Year this year, he wrote back a few days ago saying that he had gone on an emergency mission, and his daughter-in-law could not come back with the two children by herself, so she would not come back this year. This is understandable. At least the children are safe and sound.

After a busy afternoon, in the evening, the Li family welcomed the most sumptuous meal of the year. Except for Zhang Huilan and Li Mingxi, everyone sat around the table, especially the children, who looked at the dishes on the table with shining eyes.

Niu Cuihua asked Old Man Li to say a few words first, but Old Man Li declined, saying that he had nothing to say. Finally, she had no choice but to tell everyone to eat as much as they could.

Niu Cuihua looked at the old man and could not say anything, so she could only speak up. "Our family has a new member this year. From now on, you little ones must take good care of your younger sister and not bully her. Also, the second child didn't go home for the New Year this year, but the shrimps and other things on the table were all sent back by him. You must remember the second child's kindness. The money he sends back every year is almost gone. You can say that he has helped you raise your children. Remember this, and don't show off what the second child sent you."

Having said that, he glared at his sons and daughters-in-law. "Now, let's eat!"

As soon as Liu Zhaodi saw that the old woman had finished speaking, she hurriedly picked up a piece of shrimp with chopsticks and gave it to Wumao. She had never eaten this thing before, but she had heard that it was very delicious. Thinking of this, she picked up another piece of shrimp with chopsticks and wanted to pick up more.

Niu Cuihua only heard scolding, "Liu Zhaodi, you better restrain yourself. It's New Year's Day today and I don't want to scold you." Hearing this, Liu Zhaodi had no choice but to give up.

Erni and Sanni, who were standing next to her, only dared to hold their bowls and eat the porridge silently. They were lowering their heads when they felt someone taking their bowls. They looked up and saw that it was their father Li Aimin. He was holding the two bowls and filling each of them with meat and vegetables.

When Li Aimin turned around and handed the bowl to his daughters, he saw their two daughters looking at him with starry eyes. Under their gaze, he felt a little satisfied.

Everyone in Old Li's family ate their fill after the meal. Seeing the satisfied faces of the whole family, Niu Cuihua felt a little dissatisfied. Her own good granddaughter Xiao Mingxi couldn't enjoy such good food, but it was given to these idiots.

Thinking of this, Niu Cuihua arranged for the third daughter-in-law to clean the table and sweep the floor, and the eldest daughter-in-law to wash the pot, while she went back to the house, took a can of malted milk and went to the west room.

As soon as she entered the house, Niu Cuihua saw her daughter-in-law feeding her granddaughter. "Mom, why are you here?" Zhang Huilan asked hurriedly when she saw Niu Cuihua come in.

"I came to see Xiaoxi. I missed her after not seeing her for a while," Niu Cuihua said as she put the malted milk in her hand on the table.

"This box of malted milk was sent back by my second child. I'll leave it here with you. When you stop breastfeeding tomorrow, let Xiaoxi drink this."
