Chapter 10 Each Goes Their Own Way
Is anyone there?
Where did this person come from?
Ye Wan looked in the direction San Ya pointed and saw a man lying face down by the stream, his condition unknown.
"Sanya, let's go quickly."
In this desolate wilderness, Ye Wan's first reaction was to leave.
She wasn't exactly a kind-hearted person; if the man woke up and had malicious intentions, she and Sanya would be in danger.
Ye Wan was about to go over and pick Sanya up when Sanya's eyes lit up. "Mom, that man is rich!"
Ye Wan looked over again and saw that the person lying down had a money bag hanging from their waist, soaking in the stream, with small fish beside them. If you didn't look closely, you really wouldn't notice it.
After hesitating for a moment, Ye Wan tiptoed over.
Ye Wan tested the man with a tree branch and, seeing that he didn't react at all, felt relieved. She quickly untied the man's money pouch and used the spiritual spring water to attract a few small fish, which she then threw into her spatial storage.
He got up to leave, but then remembered the weight of the money bag and decided to turn the man over.
He was a bearded man dressed in dark clothes. It was impossible to tell where he was injured, but he was still breathing.
Ye Wan laboriously pulled the person to a dry place and fed them some spring water from the space.
"I took your money, saved your life, and we're even."
Looking up, I saw that it was almost time, so I quickly took Sanya down the mountain.
As soon as we reached the foot of the mountain, we saw a large group of people coming this way.
The group at the front were all men. Ye Wan quickly threw everything in her hands into her spatial storage, then led Sanya and continued walking.
"Sanya!"
Er Ya was also in the crowd. She rushed over and started cursing at Ye Wan.
"Are you crazy? This mountain belongs to Master Zhang. If he finds out you've gone in to take things without permission, he'll beat you to death! Who told you to bring Sanya there!"
Last time, a good-for-nothing from the next village went into the mountains to steal things. He was reported, and Master Zhang brought his men and beat him to death in front of so many people.
Ye Wan's eyes flickered as she looked at so many people. "We didn't go into the mountains. We just wandered around at the foot of the mountain. Who told you we went into the mountains?"
Sanya looked up at her mother and exclaimed, "Hey, where's the stuff?"
Where's the bunny?
Ye Wan squeezed Sanya's little hand.
The village chief, who was leading the group, breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. "I knew it! Everyone in the surrounding villages knows that this mountain belongs to Master Zhang. You need Master Zhang's permission to enter the mountain. Besides, how dangerous is that mountain! What if someone gets killed!"
After saying that, he addressed the crowd: "Old Li's wife, next time look more carefully! You're delaying everyone's work!"
An old woman in the crowd shouted, "Hey, I saw them go in with my own eyes! Who knew they didn't? I was just trying to help them. What if they ran into wild boars? Didn't Widow Tian's husband get eaten by wild boars?"
"Alright, everyone get back to work!"
Once the village chief spoke, the crowd dispersed, realizing there was no more excitement.
On a path in the distance, a woman carrying a basket stood watching.
The man in front urged, "Hurry up, it's getting late. If we don't find any medicinal herbs tonight, we'll lose money tomorrow."
The woman then looked away, lowered her head, and followed the man.
Ye Wan sensed that someone was watching her, but when she looked up, she didn't see anyone except Er Ya, who was holding a basket and staring at her.
Ye Wan glared back.
Back home, Ye Wan let San Ya go inside first, then went to a secluded spot to retrieve the items before bringing them back. She then told San Ya that she had hidden them.
Children are easily fooled; they believe whatever you say.
Er Ya, who had just been cursing, immediately raised her voice when she saw the things on the ground, "You still say you didn't go? It's one thing to run in by yourself, but why did you bring San Ya in with you? You're not acting like a servant at all!"
"Who said I'm a servant? Your father never said that, did he? He said I'm your mother." Ye Wan glanced at the girl, who was dark-skinned and not at all likable.
Er Ya retorted defiantly, "What kind of damned mother are you? You're just a servant we bought!"
"I can't be bothered arguing with you." Ye Wan ignored Er Ya and pulled San Ya to the kitchen.
"Sanya, come on, I'll cook you something delicious."
Er Ya was so angry that she jumped up and down and ran into the house.
As the sun began to set, Lin Anyuan returned and immediately smelled the fragrance upon entering the courtyard.
"You're back. Wash your hands and eat."
Ye Wan placed a plate of cold-dressed wild vegetables on the table.
There was also a plate of braised rabbit meat on the table, with wild mushrooms and sweet potatoes added, which looked very tempting.
Her cooking skills are good, but this kind of earthen stove is not good for burning firewood, so Daya came back and lit the fire.
Sanya was already eating meat, her little mouth all greasy. Daya was watching her from the side when she saw Lin Anyuan and called out "Dad".
"Did you cook this meal today? Where did the meat come from?" Lin Anyuan raised an eyebrow at Ye Wan.
"Dad, I'll tell you a secret." Sanya stopped Lin Anyuan and started telling him about what happened today, praising her mother's abilities.
Sanya's expression wasn't very clear, but Lin Anyuan understood. The two of them sneaked into the mountains and, by sheer luck, caught a silly rabbit.
"You've got some nerve. You're not allowed to go there again." Lin Anyuan said, washing his hands and sitting down at the table.
He wasn't afraid of Master Zhang, since Master Zhang still needed him and wouldn't turn against him over such a small matter. However, if others saw them, they might be bullied.
Taking the opportunity, Ye Wan said, "I'll take your silence as a yes to what I told you before. I can take care of your daughter for three years, by which time Sanya will be seven or eight years old."
Today's events made Ye Wan realize that the original owner of this body was supported by Granny Qian because of her beauty and rarely went out, so she didn't know much. While cooking, she learned about the social order from Daya.
In this world, people prey on each other, especially women.
So she changed her mind; three years would be enough for her to be able to protect herself.
When the three-year period is up, everyone will go their separate ways.
Of course, there was another point she realized: Lin Anyuan might really be spineless and wouldn't do anything to her. If he did, given his appearance, it was uncertain who would be the one to suffer.
Lin Anyuan didn't even lift his eyelids, his chopsticks pausing as he picked up food. "Okay."
Hearing his agreement, Ye Wan was overjoyed. "Take me to town tomorrow."
She's been wearing the same clothes ever since she put them on, and they're going to spoil if she doesn't change them soon. She's going to buy some things and maybe see if there's a legitimate way to make money.
As for where the silver came from, Sanya just said that she found it, but she didn't expect Lin Anyuan to not ask her for it.
The meal was so good that no one said a word.
Where did your father go?
Seeing that Lin Anyuan had eaten and gone out again, Ye Wan asked Daya.
This person leaves early and returns late, seems very busy.
Daya didn't know either, she kept her head down, lost in thought.
San Ya's belly was round from eating, and she looked at Er Ya, who was wolfing down her food, and asked, "Second Sister, didn't you say you wouldn't eat Mother's cooking?"
"Shut up, you traitor! She's part of my family, so what if I ate her food? I'll eat it!"
As Er Ya spoke, she stuffed meat into her mouth as if she were being fierce, saying that she hadn't eaten meat since the Lunar New Year.
"Wash the dishes after you finish eating, or I won't cook for you next time."
"I'll wash it!" Er Ya stuffed another mouthful of rabbit meat into her mouth, her eyes reddening.
Seeing this, Daya patted Erya on the back and said softly, "Don't cry, she's better than the first one, isn't she?"
Ye Wan didn't hear their conversation and had already gone back inside and locked the door.
He planted everything he found in the mountains in the space, and even raised the fish he caught in the stream in a pond.
The once bare space is now filled with greenery.
Ye Wan was exhausted after finishing all that work, so she took a quick shower in her spatial dimension.
Lying on the kang (a heated brick bed), Lin Anyuan's face suddenly popped into my mind, which was quite absurd.
Frustrated, he turned over and pulled the blanket over his head.
Meanwhile, Lin Anyuan, wearing a straw hat, walked through the woods, the darkness effectively concealing his vision.
He has walked the mountain roads countless times in the past three years, and he knows the location of the stream as soon as you mention it.
Lin Anyuan followed the trampled grass and found the man lying by the stream.
I walked over and kicked the person, but there was no reaction.
"Dead?"
"The clothes look nice; they should be worth a few bucks if sold."
After observing for a moment, Lin Anyuan touched his chin and raised his voice slightly.
Just as they were about to make their move, the man who had been unconscious suddenly opened his eyes.
