Chapter 57 Doubt
There is only one clinic in the town.
The old doctor shook his head when he saw Er Ya's face. "The burns are so severe, and she has burns all over her body. Even if she survives by chance, this little girl's life will be ruined!"
A young woman's appearance is the most important thing; if it's injured like this, it won't heal properly.
He could only prescribe some medicine; go back and leave it to fate.
Er Ya kept groaning in pain.
Daya covered her mouth and choked out, "What should we do? Erya loves to look pretty, she..."
Sanya stood there blankly, as if she were terrified, and even forgot to cry.
Ye Wan suppressed the tears welling up in her eyes. "Lin Anyuan, go and tell Uncle Sun to bring the oxcart here. I'll change Er Ya's clothes and go home first."
Lin Anyuan remained silent for a moment before leaving.
Ye Wan found the apprentice at the clinic and asked him to buy Er Ya some clothes and bedding. Er Ya's clothes were stuck to her skin and were no longer wearable.
The young apprentice returned quickly, carrying some worn-out clothes and a quilt. "These are my sister's, they've been washed, do you think they're alright?"
"Thank you, sir." Ye Wan paid the bill.
"You're welcome, sigh." The medicine boy also sighed.
He had eaten noodles at this Lady Ye's stall before, but he didn't expect the little girl to be so scalded.
"Qing Shuang, take Xiao Yao outside. I'll change Qing Dai's clothes." Ye Wan sent Daya and San Ya out.
Daya wiped away her tears and silently led Sanya out.
Ye Wan asked the young apprentice for a pair of scissors and cut open the parts of Er Ya's clothes that couldn't be removed. Sure enough, the burns on her body became more severe.
Er Ya cried out in pain, gasping for breath, her sobs muffled.
Ye Wan took a clean cloth and used the spiritual spring water to wash the scalded area. "Er Ya, don't cry. I will definitely heal you. I promise there won't be a single scar left. Do you believe me?"
Er Ya looked at Ye Wan with tears in her eyes, not daring to cry too loudly, for fear that Ye Wan would hate her.
Ye Wan didn't like her to begin with, and now that she's so ugly, will she hate her even more?
Ye Wan lowered her voice, "I'll tell you secretly, but don't tell anyone else, I have a beauty secret. Look how fair and beautiful I am, it's all thanks to the secret."
"real?"
Er Ya forced a smile, but tears kept falling.
You're kidding, right? If there really was a secret recipe that would make you rich, would your dad still be able to buy it back?
"When have I ever lied to you?" Ye Wan used a cloth to pad her injured area and helped her put on her clothes.
Er Ya thought about it and realized she really didn't; she always kept her word.
Looking at Ye Wan's gentle expression, Er Ya cried again and whispered, "Mother... I won't make you angry anymore. Can you treat me as well as San Ya does?"
She actually envied Sanya. She went against Ye Wan just to get her to look at her more, not because she was deliberately annoying.
She fantasized that she was a lost young lady from a wealthy family, and deliberately pretended to be one, but in her heart she knew that her own mother had sold her.
She was sold, ran away, and was beaten a lot before her father took her back.
She wanted a mother who wouldn't sell her and who would treat her well.
She knew that Ye Wan was very good to Sanya and also to her eldest sister, but she just didn't like her.
"Okay, from now on I'll be your mother, don't cry." Ye Wan patted Er Ya's head.
Oh well, raising one is the same as raising three.
Just because this girl was willing to protect her without hesitation, she was willing to raise her.
"Mother!" Er Ya cried and laughed at the same time.
She has a mother now; she's no longer a motherless child.
"Stop crying, your tears are soaking me." Ye Wan wiped Er Ya's tears with a hint of disgust.
Er Ya grinned, feeling like the pain had subsided, and drifted off to sleep.
Lin Anyuan had Old Sun drive the oxcart to the entrance of the clinic, put bedding on it, and carried the sleeping Er Ya onto it.
"Look at the legs."
Upon hearing Lin Anyuan's voice, Ye Wan paused for a moment before remembering that her left leg was injured.
The doctor examined the patient and found no bone damage; he told her to go home and rest.
No one spoke along the way.
Today's events seem to weigh heavily on everyone's minds.
Ye Wan thought that if she wanted to live a peaceful life with her three girls, she couldn't just stay cooped up like this forever.
"Lin Anyuan, you've become an official?"
Once inside the courtyard, Ye Wan remembered to ask that question.
"It's just a minor official position. Don't worry, I guarantee no one will bother you again." Lin Anyuan looked at Ye Wan, as if making a solemn promise.
Ye Wan felt a little uncomfortable under his gaze, so she went to the kitchen to cook.
I caught a fish from the space, made fish soup for Er Ya, and also made some noodles.
The meal was ready, but Sanya, who usually loves to eat, only ate a little bit.
The child must have been terrified today, so Ye Wan asked Daya to coax him to sleep.
Nobody asked where the fish came from.
Ye Wan personally fed Er Ya fish soup and watched her fall asleep before returning to the house, where she saw Lin Anyuan wearing a straw hat.
"It's so late, are you going out?"
"Yes, I just started today, and there are still many things I haven't done well. I'll be back as soon as possible. Please keep an eye on Er Ya." Lin Anyuan looked at her.
Ye Wan made way for him.
"Lin Anyuan."
Lin Anyuan turned around as he reached the door.
Ye Wan actually wanted to ask him what he was thinking about what happened today, since those people were clearly related to Zhang Fuhu.
He smiled and said, "It's okay, be careful on the road, and remember to come back soon."
Never mind, why is she making things difficult for Lin Anyuan?
She'll have to find a way to kill that rich man, Zhang.
For the first time, Ye Wan hated that her superpower was so useless; she had never hated it this much even during the apocalypse.
If she had any other superpowers, she would kill anyone who tried to harm her tonight.
Lin Anyuan turned and left.
Stepping out of the courtyard gate and looking at the faint light shining inside the house, a part of my heart seemed to soften.
Of all the lights, one shines for him.
...
...
"Sir, the six men we captured today have suddenly died!"
Late at night, Constable Li rushed out of the prison cell to find Magistrate Wu.
Recently, bandits have been causing trouble, and Magistrate Wu is still at the yamen today.
"Have you found anything out yet?"
"No, they died before I could even ask who they were."
Magistrate Wu was immediately alarmed. "Have you investigated what the cause is?"
"The coroner said he died of poisoning." Officer Li lowered his head; judging by the timeline, it should be today.
It was his incompetence; he didn't even know when these people were poisoned, even though they were perfectly fine when he arrested them.
"Could it be that these aren't bandits at all?" Magistrate Wu frowned, looking more like his servants.
"By the way, where's Lin Anyuan? Wasn't he the one who led you to arrest them?"
Magistrate Wu remembered the man he had met earlier that day and took the initiative to approach him.
This person was quite talented, which he greatly admired. It was just a pity that he would never have the chance to take the imperial examinations in his lifetime. The poem Zhang Gui wrote last time was actually written by this person.
Could this matter be related to Lin Anyuan?
