Chapter 10 The Impetuous Swordsman: "Did my sister get angry with me because of him?"...
"Qi Baitong! Come quickly!"
Gu Shanyue's anxious voice rang out from behind.
Qi Baitong immediately abandoned all thoughts and quickly turned back.
It's going to burn!
Gu Shanyue was at a loss, holding two fish. Qi Baitong immediately took the fish from her and pushed her out of the area surrounded by flames.
"It's alright, sit down and rest for a bit, you'll be able to eat soon."
Qi Baitong pulled out the two hottest pieces of firewood and placed them on the sand and stones to the side. The blazing flames instantly died down. He then put the grilled fish back in, turned it around a few times, and presented it to Gu Shanyue.
"Try it."
The grilled fish exuded an enticing aroma of oil, its golden belly turned inside out. Gu Shanyue couldn't wait to take a bite of the fish. The skin was crispy and fragrant, the flesh tender and fresh, and it was filled with the hot, smoky aroma of grilling. It was a hundred times more fragrant than the fish on the dinner table.
"Huff huff".
Gu Shanyue opened her mouth and exhaled, then took another bite.
"tasty!"
This is absolutely the best grilled fish she's ever had!
She was about to take another bite when the steaming grilled fish was moved aside, and a cool, fragrant pear was placed in front of Gu Shanyue, gently touching her lips.
"Take a bite of pear, but don't burn yourself."
With the pear practically at her lips, Gu Shanyue took a big bite. The pear was sweet and juicy, instantly relieving the burning and numbing sensation in her mouth.
Gu Shanyue took another bite: "Where did this pear come from?"
Qi Baitong held a grilled fish in one hand and a pear in the other, his gaze gentle: "How does it taste, picked while gathering firewood?"
"sweet!"
Gu Shanyue commented frankly, then went to bite into the crispy belly of the grilled fish. He was so engrossed in eating that he forgot to reach for the grilled fish.
Qi Baitong didn't remind her, but carefully held the grilled fish, turning it after each bite, and removing it after she had eaten the most tender part.
Gu Shanyue tugged at his sleeve anxiously: "We haven't finished eating yet."
"The next one is ready too. The belly is the most fragrant and has fewer bones. You can have the next one."
Qi Baitong explained, placing the fish on a bed of leaves placed to the side, while holding a pear in his other hand. Gu Shanyue then realized that he didn't have enough hands to hold the pear.
"I'll do it myself."
Gu Shanyue took the pear and started munching on it.
Qi Baitong glanced at her self-sufficient appearance and a faint sense of regret crossed his mind.
But soon, he picked up the next fish and fed it to Gu Shanyue, his movements incredibly natural.
Six fish were grilled. Gu Shanyue ate the bellies of all six fish, leaving six fish scraps on the leaves.
Gu Shanyue ate another pear, patted his belly, and felt very satisfied.
She used to eat whatever was available, and the food was pretty much the same everywhere, but the fish she ate today was different; it was incredibly delicious.
Qi Baitong had a faint smile on his face. Seeing Gu Shanyue touching his stomach, he asked, "Are you full?"
"I'm full, feel me."
Gu Shanyue raised his chin, his gaze pure and simple.
Qi Baitong's pupils trembled, and she raised her hand, then lowered it again: "My hands are too dirty, they're covered in black ash."
Gu Shanyue gave a lazy "oh" and continued munching on the pear.
Qi Baitong picked up the grilled fish whose belly had been emptied, opened his mouth and took a bite without changing his expression. Gu Shanyue's eyes darted around, noticing his action.
"Aren't there still many more?" she asked, puzzled.
There are still several fish splashing their tails on the shore.
She caught more than a dozen fish, so she ate six of them in one go, never expecting that Qi Baitong would pick up the fish she had already eaten and eat them.
"We've run out of firewood."
"I'm hungry too."
"Let's eat these six fish to avoid waste."
Qi Baitong explained three sentences in a row before looking at Gu Shanyue's expression.
Gu Shanyue didn't react at all, only saying "Oh" and "Whatever you want."
Sometimes, she can be quite easy to fool.
So, with an indescribable emotion, Qi Baitong ate the six remaining fish one by one.
The fish's belly was empty, and there were several small, haphazard teeth marks on the side.
Qi Baitong's thin lips parted, and she pressed her lips against his mouth, swallowing each bite.
Gu Shanyue dangled her toes around and casually asked, "Is it delicious?"
She ate all the best parts, leaving only the back and tail of the fish. How can that taste good?
Qi Baitong smiled at her, her dark eyes shining: "It's delicious."
Gu Shanyue shrugged: "Then you should eat more."
"We'll finish it all, not a single bit will be left." Qi Baitong's voice was deep and slow, carrying a hint of something inexplicable.
Gu Shanyue's mind was quick. After eating, she ran to the stream to play in the water, sticking her bottom out and turning over stones in the water, busy battling with the little crabs waving their pincers.
I'm very happy today.
Behind her, Qi Baitong ate the cold fish and watched her back, feeling happy today as well.
It wasn't until dusk that Gu Shanyue had had enough fun, and by the time the two returned to the Crown Prince's residence, it was already midnight.
Gu Shanyue spent the day eating and playing, feeling relaxed, and walked into the courtyard with a smile on her face.
The courtyard was lit up. Gu Shanyue exclaimed in surprise. The wind blew the wide-open door open, making a soft creaking sound.
Li Yuheng sat in the center of the main room, holding a book in his hand, the candlelight illuminating half of his face.
He glanced at her sideways, his voice unreadable: "My sister is finally back?"
"You're back." Gu Shanyue walked briskly and sat down opposite him.
Qi Baitong held a bouquet of flowers in his hands, which Gu Shanyue had casually picked and given to him along the way. He carefully kept each one and gathered them into a colorful bunch.
A faint fragrance wafted in the air, and Li Yuheng's gaze shifted to the flowers: "Where did these flowers come from?"
"I picked them," Gu Shanyue said, pouring herself a glass of water and drinking it down in one gulp.
After bowing, Qi Baitong silently found a narrow-mouthed porcelain bottle, filled it with water, and carefully inserted the flowers one by one.
Li Yuheng stared at Qi Baitong's movements for a while, then turned his gaze to Gu Shanyue, scanning him up and down.
His shoes were dusty, his hair was messy, and his clothes were torn, but he had a comfortable and at ease expression on his face.
She had a lot of fun outside with other people.
He waited for her for two nights in this small, square courtyard.
After a while, Li Yuheng reached out and brushed away a withered leaf stuck to her shoulder, and said gently, "Why didn't you tell me you were going out to play?"
"You're too busy to care what I do," Gu Shanyue said casually, patting her clothes. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Qi Baitong put the vase on the table and immediately said, "Take the flowers away, they smell awful."
Qi Baitong bowed his head and replied, "Yes."
Back here, he seems to have reverted to being that taciturn and law-abiding bodyguard.
Qi Baitong frowned and carried the vase out. Li Yuheng's gaze was fixed on his back as he said, "Sister, this man is a bodyguard. He's only fit to follow behind you. Why do you keep talking to him?"
"I can talk to whoever I want, why are you interfering?" Gu Shanyue clicked her tongue and glared at her. "It's so late, why aren't you going home to sleep?"
After being reprimanded, Li Yuheng softened his tone: "My sister suddenly disappeared, and I was very panicked."
“Since I promised you, I won’t leave before your wedding,” Gu Shanyue said, then stood up and glanced at him, her tone not very friendly: “Go back, I’m going to sleep.”
Li Yuheng keenly noticed the subtle change in her attitude. His eyes darkened slightly, and he also stood up, smiling.
"Okay, I won't bother you anymore."
Before he could finish speaking, Gu Shanyue went straight back to her room and slammed the door shut.
Gu Shanyue is always like this.
He liked her free-spiritedness and uninhibited nature, but this also meant that she was a sword that couldn't be grasped.
Li Yuheng stood there for a while, the candlelight flickering in the evening breeze, casting long and shifting shadows on the ground.
After a long while, he turned and left.
Gu Shanyue went back to his room and fell asleep immediately. Halfway through his sleep, he got up to use the restroom and, still half asleep, went out to use the outhouse. When he returned, he found that the light in the white lacquered room was still on.
If we just wait a little longer, it'll be dawn. What is this person doing?
Gu Shanyue called out from across the room, "Qi Baitong?"
No one responded.
She went over and knocked on the door, which opened with a touch. The candlelight was dim and had burned down to a short stub; the room was empty.
When he returned, the vase of flowers he had carefully arranged was shattered, the colorful flowers and water spilled all over the ground, and a footprint was imprinted on it.
The flower was trampled flat.
Gu Shanyue's weariness vanished instantly. He turned and flew like the wind towards Li Yuheng's courtyard.
When someone tried to stop her, Gu Shanyue kicked them away with a single kick each.
"What about the white tung tree?"
The fallen guards exchanged a glance, their expressions flustered, and refused to speak.
Frustrated, Gu Shanyue leaped into the courtyard and kicked open the main door: "Li Yuheng, where's Qi Baitong?!"
Judging by her title as the number one swordswoman in the world, and by her beautiful and graceful appearance, she often makes people mistake her for an ethereal fairy.
In reality, however, she was a reckless, unruly, and unrestrained swordswoman.
She had killed people with a sword since she was a child.
Gu Shanyue always did whatever he wanted.
There was a noise inside the room, and Li Yuheng came out wearing clothes, his hair disheveled, as if he had just been woken up from bed.
"What's wrong? Who upset your sister?"
"Where is he?" Gu Shanyue frowned.
"Lord Qi has gone back to the Inner Guard to report on his duties. Although he has been transferred to the Crown Prince's residence, he is still a member of the Inner Guard and cannot stay here all the time."
Li Yuheng walked out, covering himself with his clothes. His eyes swept over the broken door panel that Gu Shanyue had kicked and deformed, and he said with a smile, "Look how anxious you are, you even kicked the door to pieces."
Gu Shanyue stared at him without saying a word.
This is also what she dislikes about Shengjing.
Even the simplest things become complicated here.
Gu Shanyue and Li Yuheng had been together for ten years. Even though Li Yuheng was a cunning fox, Gu Shanyue still managed to figure out some of his personality.
He was bluffing her.
"He's just a bodyguard. Is my sister angry with me because of him?"
Li Yuheng and Gu Shanyue looked at each other, then Li Yuheng clutched his chest and coughed twice. His face was pale, which made his lips appear as red as if he were coughing up blood.
Gu Shanyue remained silent, her fierce aura lessening slightly: "...I already told you to go to bed early."
