Chapter 11 He was very obedient. "I want to be with my sister forever."...
Li Yuheng smiled slightly and walked over to take Gu Shanyue's hand.
"I was so worried that my sister would suffer and get hurt alone outside that I couldn't sleep at night. I had just finally fallen asleep when my sister came to scold me like a storm. It was really terrifying."
He spoke in a pitiful tone, but his eyes were smiling as he tugged at Gu Shanyue's hand, acting as if he were being affectionate.
Gu Shanyue led him into the house, her eyes sharp and piercing.
"No one in this world can kill me unless I willingly let myself be killed. You don't need to worry about my safety. Just take good care of yourself."
“I know you’re amazing, sister,” Li Yuheng said as he sat down, looked up into her clear eyes, and rubbed his face against her palm. “But I still can’t help worrying that you’ll always leave me behind.”
"...I'll leave you a message next time I go out," Gu Shanyue said helplessly, making a promise.
“That’s enough,” Li Yuheng sighed, his voice tinged with annoyance. He complained, “Lord Qi is also hateful. He’s been gone for so long and hasn’t even sent a message back. I’ve just been waiting in vain.”
Gu Shanyue: "...I'll pass on a message to you next time."
"He didn't fulfill his duty as a bodyguard!" Li Yuheng coughed again, his cheeks turning even redder, as he became agitated. "I clearly told him to protect you secretly and act as a messenger, but he only cared about having fun and completely forgot his responsibilities. He even coaxed my sister into arguing with me because of him..."
He went on and on, his words constantly criticizing Qi Baitong.
Gu Shanyue sensed something was amiss, but seeing his pale face and flushed cheeks, she didn't argue with him, only saying, "You have official business to attend to tomorrow, go to sleep."
Li Yuheng laughed, revealing his tiger teeth: "Is my sister worried about me?"
“Hmm,” Gu Shanyue gazed at his face, “You should live a long life.”
“I will,” Li Yuheng smiled and affectionately pressed his cheek against her palm. “I want to be with my sister forever.”
After finally coaxing her to sleep, Gu Shanyue stepped out of the courtyard. A cool breeze blew, and she realized she had forgotten to ask Qi Baitong when he would be back.
As soon as I turned around, the lights in the room went out.
Gu Shanyue had no choice but to leave, fearing that if she went back in, Li Yuheng would pester her for a long time and not let go.
I don't know what's wrong with this child. The older he gets, the more clingy he becomes. He's completely different from his bad temper when he was little.
Although she didn't get a clear answer, Qi Baitong returned two days later.
Gu Shanyue was practicing his sword in the courtyard. His sword energy swept across the room, causing leaves to fall. His movements were as light and agile as a crane.
Hearing a slight noise, Gu Shanyue's ears twitched. He turned around and slashed with the tip of his sword, stopping just in front of Qi Baitong's eyes.
The shockwave caused his hair to sway, revealing a pair of slightly smiling, dark eyes.
"Girl, I'm back."
Gu Shanyue swiftly withdrew his hand, walked up to him with his sword on his back, and sniffed lightly.
Qi Baitong's expression changed slightly, and he subtly shifted his body to the side.
Gu Shanyue acted swiftly, pressing down on his side waist with considerable force.
Qi Baitong paused slightly, his eyes darted around for a moment, and he let out a muffled groan.
Gu Shanyue stared intently at his face and uttered only one word: "Hmm?"
Qi Baitong didn't flinch. His pale, thin lips were slightly pursed as he quietly looked at her, with a pitiful yet stubborn expression. He opened his mouth and called out to her, "Miss."
"I've been beaten again," Gu Shanyue said, his hand moving quickly to find the wound. "Is it a whip mark?"
The fresh wound had not yet healed, and Gu Shanyue pressed and slid her fingers across it through her clothes, gradually feeling the pain from the wound and the irritation from the sensitive skin.
Qi Baitong has always been very tolerant of pain, so that little bit of pain seems to become another layer of stimulation, making people strangely look forward to it.
He tensed his abdominal muscles and let out a soft sigh.
"It's just a minor injury, nothing serious."
Gu Shanyue looked up at him, recalling the same thing he had said when he burned his wrist last time.
She let go of his hand: "Whatever."
The injury was on him, the pain was on him, and it had nothing to do with her.
She continued practicing her sword moves, while Qi Baitong stood quietly to the side watching her.
Gu Shanyue was left to his own devices.
After a while, Gu Shanyue stopped. She was always very focused when practicing swordsmanship, and only then did she realize that Qi Baitong was no longer there.
She turned her head and saw a figure in white tung tree bustling back and forth in the room.
In just two days, the house became even more chaotic. Gu Shanyue had no habit of tidying up; things were just thrown around haphazardly. She would use what she could find and ignore what she couldn't, since she could sleep on the floor anyway.
Gu Shanyue darted across and landed lightly on the windowsill. He squinted at Wu Gou in the sunlight and casually said, "I need to clean my sword."
As soon as he finished speaking, Qi Baitong quickly came over with fine cotton cloth, sword oil, deerskin and other utensils, and sorted them one by one and placed them on a tray.
Gu Shanyue picked up a cloth and began wiping the sword, while Qi Baitong placed the tray by the window and then continued tidying up the house, like a busy young wife.
Gu Shanyue wiped for a while, then said, "I'm thirsty."
Qi Baitong immediately poured tea and brought it over. Gu Shanyue glanced at it and saw that it was tea sent by Li Yuheng again.
"I won't drink it."
Qi Baitong put down the tea and, like a spinning top, poured a cup of warm water and handed it over.
"girl?"
Gu Shanyue gulped down the drink, wiped her mouth, and said, "I'm hungry."
Qi Baitong took back the cup: "I'll go cook now."
He left in a hurry, not forgetting to take a few clothes hanging on the rack with him and put them in a basin to be washed.
Gu Shanyue watched his retreating figure. He was being bossed around like a headless chicken, yet he seemed quite happy about it.
I don't understand.
As Gu Shanyue leisurely applied the oil, Qi Baitong returned with a food box: "Miss, the food is ready."
The bowls and plates were laid out, and the aroma of the food filled the air.
Gu Shanyue glanced at the sumptuous meal on the table, then at Wugou in his hand, and immediately made his decision.
"I'll eat later."
"good."
Qi Baitong did not complain at all. He put the food back into the food box one by one. When he bent over, he inevitably aggravated the wound on his back, but his movements were still very steady. Apart from the cold sweat on his forehead, you could not tell that he was suffering from pain.
Gu Shanyue took the chamois leather and rubbed the sword oil on it, then suddenly said, "The flowers in your room have been trampled."
Qi Baitong paused in his busy work, turned around, and after a moment of silence, said, "Yes."
"What is it?" Gu Shanyue's eyes swept over, "You're speaking in a way that's hard to understand."
"Your subordinate..."
Gu Shanyue held his longsword horizontally, pointing it at Qi Baitong's face. The tip of the sword seemed to trace his face, circling twice.
Do you speak to your master like this?
"..."
Qi Baitong remained silent.
"I have a long-standing friendship with your master. Since you've run into me, why don't you acknowledge me as your master as well?"
As Gu Shanyue spoke, his eyes suddenly lit up. He leaped down from the windowsill, his sword flashed, and he sheathed it, step by step approaching Qi Baitong.
"Accept you as my master?" Qi Baitong stammered.
"What? If your master can teach you, why can't I?"
Gu Shanyue suddenly found something interesting, but didn't get any feedback from Qi Baitong. She pouted, not very happy.
“The young lady is indeed capable, but…”
Qi Baitong paused, and when he saw her pure eyes gazing at him, he couldn't bring himself to say anything to refuse her.
He cupped his hands in a respectful bow, knelt down, and kowtowed, performing a standard apprenticeship ceremony.
"It is my honor that you are willing to give me guidance, young lady."
He bowed, knelt, and kowtowed repeatedly. Gu Shanyue found it amusing and circled around him before realizing that the black fabric on his back was damp, probably because his wounds had reopened.
"Alright, get up. Before I can even give you any pointers, you're probably going to bleed to death."
Gu Shanyue reached for the back of his collar, but Qi Baitong shook his head and insisted on completing the three kneelings and nine kowtows before getting up.
"Girl, it's alright."
"Am I a girl?"
"Master."
“Since I am your master, you have to listen to me in everything.” Gu Shanyue raised his head and glanced at him out of the corner of his eye.
Qi Baitong's lips curled up slightly: "Even if you're not my master, I'll still listen to what you say, young lady."
"The first thing to do is to bandage it again."
Gu Shanyue sat down at the table and casually tossed a celadon bottle over his shoulder.
Qi Baitong raised his hand and caught it steadily. The porcelain bottle was bulging and slightly warm, and it felt heavy in his palm.
His eyes flickered, and he replied, "Yes."
Gu Shanyue held up two fingers and shook them: "The second thing is, you are not allowed to say the word 'yes' again."
Qi Baitong pursed his lips and changed his words: "Your subordinate obeys."
Gu Shanyue scoffed lightly and said casually, "The third thing is that you are not allowed to say the word 'subordinate'."
"..." Qi Baitong opened her mouth, the words swirling on her tongue, "I understand."
"Will he listen to me?" Gu Shanyue raised an eyebrow at him. "I don't want a disobedient disciple; it would be a laughing stock if I took him out."
"I will be obedient."
After Qi Baitong finished speaking, his Adam's apple bobbed, and he said in a low voice, "Very obedient."
Gu Shanyue casually waved his hand, adopting the airs of a master: "Go apply the medicine."
Qi Baitong opened her mouth to say "yes," but under Gu Shanyue's warning gaze, she managed to squeeze out a "good."
He respectfully stepped back and left. Gu Shanyue peeked out and suddenly chuckled, "This is so much fun."
She's only ever been a junior apprentice, never a master.
If all disciples were as obedient and useful as Qi Baitong, then she could understand those who took in a whole valley of disciples.
The food in the food box smelled enticingly delicious. Gu Shanyue was indeed hungry. Even though Qi Baitong wasn't around these past two days, she could still eat the food, just like before.
But strangely, she didn't seem to feel any enthusiasm for having a proper meal.
Now, that feeling is back.
Gu Shanyue served four dishes and a soup. They weren't particularly fancy or eye-catching, but the taste was just what she wanted.
Gu Shanyue has a large appetite; when she has a good appetite, she can eat a whole table of food.
After finishing her meal in a flash, she leaned back contentedly. The room had just been tidied up by Qi Baitong; it was bright and simple, with everything neatly organized. All the trinkets she had brought back from outside were arranged in a tidy manner.
Even a single pine cone is polished to a shine and sits securely on an expensive display shelf.
Gu Shanyue's gaze was drawn to the shelf, and she walked over to examine the trinkets carefully. Many of the things she had brought back had been casually placed aside, and if Qi Baitong hadn't found them, she would have almost forgotten about their existence.
Upon looking at it now, a flood of memories instantly rushed into my mind.
She smiled, wanting to say a few words to someone, but Qi Baitong hadn't returned yet.
Why is he moving so slowly?
Gu Shanyue remembered that his injury was on his back, and it would be inconvenient for him to apply medicine to himself.
"White lacquer paulownia".
With a thought, she was already standing in front of the lacquered white paulownia door. She reached out and pushed, and the half-closed door creaked open.
Qi Baitong sat on the bed, her clothes wide open, revealing her broad shoulders and narrow waist.
He was turning over to apply medicine to the wound on his side when he heard the noise and looked up in surprise.
My hand trembled, and the skewer pierced my wound.
He took a breath, his bare chest heaving instantly, and his neck turned red.
