Chapter 12 Chapter 12 Joining the Channel: A Strange Intrusion, and...

This is Enid's third day since arriving in Gotham.

The lead-gray clouds, completely soaked in pure white, were about to dissipate but were then kneaded together with superglue, forming an ugly and haphazard pile, a gloomy and angry sight. Even the grass, trees, and vines that were relatively awake during the day began to drowsily drift off to sleep, and her heart began to sink with them.

Through the unobstructed beam of light, she could almost see a black harbinger swaying in the air, its bright black eyes sharply and coldly looking down at the decaying earth.

“Miss Fia, perhaps it is no wonder that you are the master’s child, you are very much like your brothers and sisters.”

Alfred's voice was tinged with amusement as he saw Enid leaning most of her body out of the window, which reminded him of birds that usually find it easier to go through windows than doors, and of course, Bruce. Enid turned to look at Alfred with a puzzled expression, then instinctively pulled back in.

"Why?"

"Because they love windows just like you do. Sometimes I even wonder if Wayne Manor doesn't need doors, just windows."

Enid stuck out her tongue sheepishly, took a small step as if no one was watching, spoke softly, and unconsciously shrank her neck. "But windows are really convenient! And Dick seems to really like windows; he often walked through them back in St. Lin."

She nodded vigorously to prove the truth of her words, which made Afu smile a little. However, after the joke, Afu was a little concerned about Enid's behavior just now, so he said gently, "Then next time you can report to the master and make the windows bigger. And, Miss Fia, did you find something?"

Meeting the genuine concern in Alfred's eyes, her language function seemed to pause briefly before quickly returning to normal, as if she had swallowed a diluted truth serum, and she spoke subconsciously.

“I sent Lyra out for a walk, but it looks like it’s going to rain soon, and I’m a little worried about…everyone.”

The Storm Child's aura began to weaken. Since the Dark Storm had passed, a subtle, uncertain feeling had welled up inside her, leaving her almost stuck in a swamp, unable to move. The forest layout she had drawn this morning had already been sent to Tim, and things were clearly progressing smoothly...

She lowered her head and faced her sudden surge of emotions with composure.

“I’m scared… I’m sorry, Grandpa Afu,” she said, her emotions were understandable, but some things didn’t need to be explained in detail. The Dark Storm was, after all, the sole mission and reason for existence left behind by Lady Niaf, belonging to the Archdruid, and shouldn’t be handed over to others. “It’s alright, I just…”

Alfred could roughly understand her emotions. Ever since Bruce grew up and became Batman, he had always worried about him and even about every little bird in the house, so he simply stroked Enid's soft hair.

"I think they should be able to handle this downpour well, after all, they all brought umbrellas, didn't they?"

"Maybe so, but well, actually I kind of want to help..."

Enid's words were abruptly cut off, her beautiful green eyes suddenly blank. After a moment, her expression turned serious. "Grandpa Alfred, does this location belong to the Wayne family?" She used green light to create a magnificent map in the air, then used red dots to indicate the location she was referring to.

“Obviously, yes, perhaps you need this, Miss.” Afu handed over a Bluetooth headset and gently taught Enid how to use the special Bluetooth headset before binding it to the corresponding channel. Enid obediently stood in place and nodded, indicating that she had learned it.

“In fact, Lyra sensed some strange presence approaching this location.”

Barbara had already noticed when her channel connected; in fact, there had been a subtle argument last night about Enid's involvement in the Batcave. Batman disagreed on whether to involve Enid, believing it wasn't a mission she needed to be involved in, and that perhaps she was better suited to the forest than to being a vigilante in concrete jungles.

But in reality, everyone knows that from the moment Enid agreed to stay at Wayne Manor, from the moment they learned that Enid was Bruce's child, from the moment she became a part of this family, she wouldn't just be a Great Druid in the forest.

"Perhaps you should consider Miss Fia's opinion, sir?"

Alfred's words woke him up from his reverie, so the Bluetooth headset was placed on him. If Enid was willing to participate, Alfred would hand over the headset to her. However, her role would be the same as Oracle's and Penny's in terms of logistics. Oracle, however, indicated that the logistics work might not be entirely her responsibility soon.

Because Barbara is the next person to receive Enid's blessing.

At that moment, they received a message that Enid's device information was online, along with a map marked by Afu, and of course, the video they had just taken. It was the map that Enid had drawn in the air, and it was clear that she knew exactly where she was.

“Great job, Druid, you’ve been a huge help.” Barbara’s voice came through the Bluetooth headset, and Enid couldn’t help but smile happily: “That’s really great.”

Barbara, hearing the obvious excessive excitement in the voice, smiled more. "This channel connects to our private channel. We can only use code names here. Details..."

"No problem, I'll be back tonight, and I'll teach the druid how to use it then."

Dick's chuckled voice came through the Bluetooth headset. He subtly took over the responsibility, shaking his head helplessly. He had originally wanted Alfred to teach Barbara how to use Enid. But actually, she was considering whether someone should teach her how to use modern technology—like Wayne's PDA, the same model used by Young Justice, though not as versatile, which was sufficient for Enid.

But now it seems she doesn't need to think about it anymore; a certain gentleman should be more than happy to take over all the work.

Of course, she had already learned most of the high-tech products yesterday afternoon, such as the microwave oven, the TV, how to turn them on and off, the latest mobile phone device pairing, and how to make calls, etc.

"Perhaps we don't need to trouble you so much. We're about to give the oracle a blessing, so maybe I can ask you for help?"

Enid didn't take it. She was still a little unsure how to face Dick. She was actually a bit clueless about relationships. Dick's breath caught in his throat for a moment. He wasn't upset because of Enid's rejection. In fact, he suddenly realized that he had been too impulsive. So he smiled slightly and moved on from the topic.

"It seems we'll have to trouble the Oracle."

"I don't think this is too strenuous, and I think this is a private channel?"

Barbara raised an eyebrow at the notification flashing in the channel: Nightwing, offline. Good, she knew it. But that only made her more interested in her new sister's past relationship with Dick, so she sent a message to Enid.

Did they give you any instructions when they gave you the phone?

"Hmm... Always having my phone with me, plus emergency calls... Well, maybe I think a teleportation array would be more convenient?"

When the professor made the emergency call, Enid's doubts were magnified to the extreme, namely the teleportation array. Bruce had some concerns about this, believing it to be somewhat dangerous because the safety of the magic and the certainty of the teleportation could not be guaranteed. After all, Enid was not the only one who could use magic, nor was the Justice League the only one.

Enid wasn't good at arguing, so the teleportation array was temporarily shelved, but Barbara understood Bruce.

“Okay, boys, they always do this. Maybe you need to explain more about the teleportation array to B.”

"More details?"

Barbara was quite perceptive; she could probably sense some of the emotional fluctuations in her words, so she softened her voice as much as possible and said, "Of course, for example, his scope of application is much wider, and in terms of safety, he is somewhat wary of magic, so don't worry, he's not targeting you."

"I understand, thank you, sister."

A note from the author:

----------------------

The later part of the story about Stephanie and Cassandra actually involves Alfred teaching his sister how to use a microwave. If you'd like to see that, leave a comment and I can write a separate little skit about it later. [shy][shy]

Next up is the no-prize quiz segment —

Did they put a GPS tracker on their baby girl? If so, where did they put it?

The answer will be revealed in the next chapter!
