Chapter 47 A Miracle of Life There was a miracle, just...
The continuous torrential rain stopped on the last day of the two weeks. Gotham's sky had been more gloomy than when Batman was scaring people, but today was an exception. The weather was clear, and even breathing seemed easier. You could probably smell some slightly purer scents coming from somewhere.
Bruce was actually very worried. He had checked the weather countless times, but it was just bad weather, normal Gotham weather, not some kind of anomaly like a desperate counterattack. Fortunately, the rain stopped.
This was a rare occasion when everyone was dressed neatly and present. Of course, there were many times when everyone was present, but since Enid joined, there was one more person in the group. As Alfred drove, everyone's feelings were indescribably complex. Mary Reid's letter was almost the last hope, but no one wanted it to be a lie.
Mary Reed is Enid's mother, after all; she probably wouldn't lie, right?
With these feelings in mind, they parked the car at the entrance of the sacred forest. After getting out of the car, they were surprised and delighted to see that it was the same place as when they first came to camp. A faint rainbow stretched from the top of the mountain to the other side, the lilies of the valley were blooming beautifully, and there were even unknown wildflowers stretching out at their feet, then quietly avoiding the direction of their trampling.
“Grayson…”
Damian spoke first. He glanced at Dick, whose expression seemed to have relaxed a bit. He nodded and went inside without saying anything. Dick's coffee intake had been excessive lately, and he was almost breaking his previous record of staying up all night. However, Bruce eventually stopped him by calling and coming to his door.
He was very anxious and had nightmares every night. Bruce wanted to lend Dick the gift Enid had given him, but he refused, as Dick thought Bruce needed it more.
He walked steadily, without rushing, as if there was a sense of delayed judgment. But when the road beneath his feet suddenly began to turn, and it even seemed as if something was guiding him in a certain direction, Dick's eyes lit up, and he even started running. His once neat tie and hairstyle became a little messy.
When he reached his destination without even breaking a sweat, his expression had improved considerably, and his eyes shone brighter, because there was nothing on the altar except for flowers and stones.
"Fia...?"
Dick spoke in disbelief, then looked around before returning to the statue. The altar had vanished, leaving only a woman with her back to him, dressed in the same exquisite High Druid robes. She slowly turned around, her emerald green eyes shining as brightly as before.
"It's nice to see you again, Dick."
He couldn't say anything. He wanted to hug her, but his feet seemed to be a little out of control. So Enid went up and hugged him. Her soft, long hair fell down and landed in his hands.
"But now that my hair is no longer red, will you still like it? I've heard that our great Mr. Nightwing only likes red-haired girls."
“It just so happens that it’s a coincidence, but I prefer white hair now.” Her long, silvery-white hair touched his heart a little, but she was still just as beautiful. Dick watched as Enid released him, her face bearing her usual bright and cheerful smile. She didn’t ask anything, but simply extended her hand in greeting, “Your Highness, please.”
She couldn't help but smile, her eyes crinkling, and gently placed her hand on it. Dick pulled her along as they slowly walked out of the forest. The group of people who were anxious but didn't show it when they saw Enid standing there with a radiant smile, their hearts seemed to stop for half a second.
"I'm back! I also dyed my hair. Doesn't it make me look more like Jay's sister?"
“I agree with that, but you’re a bit worse than me. I’ve also gained some muscle.”
Jason wasn't one for sentimentality, but seeing her standing there still lifted his spirits a bit, not just because of the "Princess Serenity" flower. Although the flower had seemed a little unhappy lately, it would probably be happier tonight.
“Hmm.” Bruce didn’t say anything, just gave a simple response, and then… he was hugged by Enid. Bruce sighed slightly and reached out to hug her back gently. His daughter’s body was warm, and her eyes were as bright as ever, like emeralds. “I’m so happy to see you back, Fia.”
"TT, if this happens again, I'll throw all your figurines away."
Damian spoke with a slight hint of displeasure, and Enid couldn't help but laugh. She then released Bruce and hugged Damian, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. Under Damian's gaze, which seemed to want to say something but ultimately remained silent, she said, "I know, I won't give you that chance."
He acquiesced, then watched as Enid ran over to each of them, hugging them all, just like she always did when they came back, hugging each one and saying to each of them, "I've missed you, and I love you so much."
“I’m so happy to see you back, Fia,” Barbara said, looking at her one last time. “But I hope this kind of joke only happens once. We all miss you. You like that your author’s book signing has been postponed to the day after tomorrow. I bet you’re happy about that, right?”
"Oh my god! That's great... I won't miss it! Does the cosplay still count?"
Enid, who was so happy she almost jumped for joy, looked around with a pitiful expression. Jason crossed his arms and chuckled, "It doesn't count." He did it on purpose, and then, as he watched Enid try to coax him and make things difficult for her, he saw Bruce's look and thought, "Okay, I'll forgive her this time."
"Alright, I promise you. This is the last time."
"Great! How about I cook for you guys in return!"
Upon hearing Enid's words, Afu deliberately opened his phone to take a look. It was quite conspicuous; Enid glanced at it curiously before Afu slowly put it away and said, "Sir, I've already ordered the latest oven and other kitchen equipment." (She seemed to understand, "Don't scold me, don't scold me, I've changed.")
"That was just an accident, and... well! It's because I didn't teach him well, right?"
"Yes, it's my fault for not teaching her well. Please forgive me, Little Fia."
Dick took the enormous blame as a matter of course and said it was his fault. Enid happily hugged his arm and kissed his cheek. The soft kiss made him momentarily lost in thought. After a moment, looking at Enid who was being affectionate with Alfred, his gaze softened.
“Looks like your confession plan can proceed.” Tim noticed, and Dick nodded as well. “It’s all arranged, either tomorrow or the day after, depending on which day she’s free.”
"Tim, bro! Let's go, it's time to go home!"
Enid waved to Tim and Dick, who exchanged a glance and followed. The moment Enid got into the car, Naya jumped out of the shadows and ran into Enid's arms. Seid also appeared out of nowhere and squatted in the car, taking up a considerable amount of space. Her furry front paws landed right on Jason's feet. Outside the car window, Lyra could be heard chirping.
“Madam, you’re stepping on me.” Jason glanced at Selder, who pretended not to understand and continued stepping on him, even lying down on her stomach. Jason laughed in exasperation, but ultimately let her stay there, and casually ruffled her fur.
"How long are you going to keep them coaxing?" Dick teased Enid with a smile. Enid glanced down at Naya's seemingly endless gaze and stuck out her tongue slightly.
"Before you came to take me home, everything was... well, it's all right now, right? Well, it won't happen again, this is the last time."
She was speaking to them, and also to them, Enid was promising that she would not leave so easily again. Dick heard the seriousness in her words, and the anxiety that had suddenly grown up for some reason eased a little. He even saw Naya's tail gently brush against him.
"good."
Cassandra spoke softly, her eyes fixed intently on Enid, before slowly agreeing after a long pause. Enid met her gaze and spoke very solemnly.
"This is a promise from the Archdruid. I will cherish my life because it is a gift from God, a miracle of love, and miracles only happen once."
"So you've lost your natural heart?"
Hearing his words, everyone's hearts finally settled down. However, Jason suddenly asked in a somewhat joking manner, though he was actually worried. Enid tilted her head and paused for a moment before shaking her head vigorously.
"Of course it is, because I have two hearts, one human and one natural. Although my human heart is gone, my natural heart is still here. The Mother Goddess felt sorry for me, so she allowed me to return to the human world. I will be her last believer."
From the beginning, nature worship only needed one believer, just a Grand Druid. God does not rely on faith; His everything is nature and all things. He does not need believers because He is the true God. Niaf was an accident, and Inid was also an accident.
Her unspoken words were understood by everyone: resurrection was a gift, but it came at a price—the price being that she would be a believer in God for the rest of her life. But… well, actually, they didn't seem to care about that, because Enid had always been a believer in God from the beginning.
"But could you cook a little more tonight? I think I'm a bit hungry..."
"You haven't eaten for the past two weeks? Oh right, the forest is full of wood that you can't burn."
Jason continued teasing her, and Enid held her breath, but couldn't hold it in any longer. She glared at him before finally speaking, "I don't need to eat! I've slept for half a month! I'm sure I'll be hungry when I wake up! Can I eat something flavorful?!" People who can't cook have no right to make high demands.
"Of course, Miss Fia, your dinner has been prepared, and tonight's dishes will be especially sumptuous."
Because, finally, there was a dining table where everyone was present again.
