Chapter 65: The potion recipe, the clown's whereabouts, and more...
Have you considered that the problem might be with the translation?
After reading the book provided by Enid, Tim frowned slightly as he compared the text with the marked characters. Bruce also took the book and looked at it, then nodded after a while.
"If we translate this language directly into English, there will be errors and omissions. It should be something like Old Latin, German, Italian, or Celtic. Is there an original text?" Bruce and Tim are both fluent in multiple languages. While the languages and scripts of various European countries have similarities, they also have complex and different meanings.
“I hadn’t even considered this! Let me take a look!” Enid’s eyes lit up, and then she found a rough outline of the book’s contents between the pages. “Here’s a translation array that can automatically translate the text of the book into a common language.”
After saying that, Enid found out how the magic circle ended. The familiar English font on it instantly changed into a clever cursive script, which was even a little hard to recognize. Her expression froze for a moment. Suddenly, she understood why there was this magic circle in the gap of the book, and why it would not appear if you had not noticed it.
"like…"
"It was indeed a translation error."
Before she could finish speaking, Tim instantly explained the examples that led to the potion's failure. He glanced at the many mistakes and correct cases that Enid had recorded in her notebook and remained silent for a moment.
Do you need me to tell you the answer?
"I think I don't need it anymore, right? Because I already answered correctly, right?"
Tim's reaction was like a powerful injection, instantly calming Enid's anxious heart. With a slight smile, Tim handed the book to Enid. Enid took the book, and the indistinct words on it instantly caught her eye.
The formula she tested seemed to be fine, because Enid had already noticed the error in the original text during her experiment. However, there were two errors. She discovered one, but the other went unnoticed because the names and effects of the two herbs were too similar.
However, Enid's latest notes mention this point; she crossed out the original position of Moongrass and replaced it with another, more similar plant, Moonlight Grass.
"It really isn't Moongrass, it's Moonlight Grass!" Her face was filled with intense surprise, and Bruce clapped lightly. "Very good, Fia."
"That's great. However, the records clearly state that Moonlight Grass often causes adverse reactions. But the final product of the potion is a universal purifying agent, which will obviously cause strange reactions. Clinical trials may be necessary."
Enid frowned. She thought the clinical trial would cause a lot of trouble. Tim and Bruce seemed to have a perfect plan. She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she could make a suggestion. Tim seemed to notice and his voice softened.
"Don't worry about Fia, you can give your opinion."
"Okay, I do think if I have human data, I can use magic to simulate reactions for testing, including against various... including fear toxins and laughing gas. We haven't found the batch of laughing gas that went missing before the Joker died, have we?"
When Enid died, the thunder was so loud and explosive that it struck him just as he was trying to appreciate the girl who died in Nightwing's arms and what kind of shadow she would cast on Batman. Perhaps it was nothing compared to the Joker's tenacious vitality, which he hadn't even died from in an explosion.
But coincidentally, the lightning struck him dead, just as Enid took away the Storm Child's last malice with her death, a forbidden spell awakened by the soul.
Mr. Joker died, he died inside a mine, a very fitting way for Mr. Joker to die.
But no one was actually happy about this, because the cost was too high, so they never really discussed it. However, the new product he developed before his death, nitrous oxide, had not yet been found, and that was Enid's goal.
She didn't want to live in constant fear because of an unnamed bomb. Of course, others had their own solutions, but no one would refuse her sincere efforts, right?
“I agree.” Tim was the first to agree with Enid’s suggestion. “I’ll send you the specific data, hmm? Perhaps one of your previous spells can be used in reverse?”
Previously, Enid had shared the materials of magical potions that she knew with them in the form of magic. When the magic touched their bodies, it would automatically transform their knowledge. Tim clearly knew that all the contents of biological science and chemistry were completely different from the text labeled with magic.
“Actually, I don’t need it this time!” Enid proudly held up another notebook. “I’ve already learned a lot about word choice and sentence structure, so I don’t need cognitive magic to help me anymore.”
After saying that, Enid blushed slightly, "Actually, it wasn't all my credit; my father helped a lot too."
Her father compiled some materials for her and even arranged many learning courses, which were mostly videos, pictures, or content he had compiled. After all, Enid had only shown him many of the classic texts. With the help of Zatanna and Diana, as well as other members of the Justice League, it was easy for them to compile complete learning materials.
Bruce didn't mention the trouble involved; he simply transmitted it to her in silence and taught her how to use it. Even now, when faced with Enid's sincere gratitude, he only touched on it lightly.
"You can't rely on magic forever."
“Yes, I agree.” Tim had actually thought about it too, but he wasn’t as quick as Bruce.
The pleasant discussion inside the potions room seemed to be coming to an end. Naya quietly slipped out and gently touched Alfred's hand with her paw. Alfred nodded, letting the kitten step onto his shoulder. He led Naya to the door of the potions room and gently knocked.
"I'm delighted to see Miss Fia's success, but perhaps you haven't forgotten how long it's been since you last saw your bed, have you?"
She suddenly froze, as if a video had been paused. Naya leaped onto Enid's head, brushed her cheek with her tail, and then lay down, her eyes fixed on Bruce and Tim.
“It seems Mr. Naya is also reminding you, sir, and young master Tim, that you might also need a rest.” After Afu finished speaking, Naya nodded and gave a helpless meow. Now it was Enid’s turn to translate awkwardly: “Naya indicated that she wasn’t responsible for taking care of my life; actually, it was Seid who was, but…”
"Don't worry, Miss Fia, Ms. Serd has already indicated that she will supervise your follow-up work, as well as everyone else's."
Enid felt embarrassed to point it out, but actually, Selder might be a grandmother, since a lady's age is a secret, and the wolf counts too, of course. In reality, Selder didn't want to reveal it. Well… she nodded somewhat helplessly. She had already lost the little ones' trust; they had extremely little faith in her routine. This was probably the price of trying to fit in, since it seemed that few people in this family had very stable routines.
Enid, increasingly self-righteous, was completely unaware that her thoughts had been seen through. Alfred gave Bruce a teasing look, but Bruce pretended not to notice.
"Actually, there's no need to worry. I've been resting well lately, thanks to Fia's flowers."
Nightmare Flower, which Enid had given to Bruce before, has now made Bruce admit that his sleep quality has indeed improved, thanks to this plant. So he has indeed discovered that the potted plant Enid prepared for him contains an excessively strong natural energy, which has made his body feel better.
The villains in Gotham City have a lot to say about this, because Batman's punches are now hitting harder, and it's not just him, but everyone. Enid deserves a lot of credit for this.
“Indeed, the flowers Fia prepared were very useful.” He had received and used them as well. “However, it’s obvious I’ll send you the information later. After all, it’s normal to say you’re going to rest but then suddenly get up to work, isn’t it?”
“I swear I’ll take a break,” Enid raised her hand to show her sincerity. “I’ll take a nap and then come back for the test later. It’ll be quick, because I’ve done the same thing before, but I always used my own and some of my classmates’ materials.”
Enid shrugged, but soon she received a message from Tim containing all the information. She gestured to indicate that she had received it, and then quickly tidied up the potions room with the others. When they left, Bruce lagged half a step behind.
"After you pass the preliminary test, send me a message and we'll go to the Bat Cave for the final test."
"good."
Bruce's name is always subtle and endearing; it's a tacit agreement. After all the experiments passed, the final test was conducted in the Bat Cave because the all-purpose purification agent would be very useful in an emergency, and it was necessary to ensure that everyone could use it properly.
"We've found a lead on nitrous oxide."
He knew, of course, what Enid was worried about, and they certainly cared about it too, so they searched frantically and eventually found a clue. Before they could even leave, Bruce suddenly said something and quickly walked away, Enid's eyes lighting up as she hurried after him.
“Then I want to participate too!” Enid didn’t hear Bruce’s objection. “That’s tacit approval!”
Very well, without any objection, Enid smiled and went upstairs to rest. Lunch had already been eaten, and Bruce and Tim also had their own work to do. Before leaving, Tim asked curiously.
"So, you agreed to let Fia participate?"
"She's ready, isn't she?"
"Indeed, she has passed the test."
