Chapter 16 About Building a Kang

It's quite spacious. If we build a kang, we can light a fire in this room and build a stove. Then we can eat iron pot stew in winter. Just thinking about it makes me drool. We must build this kang.

I don't know anyone here, so I need to ask Uncle Liu. He knows a lot of people, so I'll ask him. There are still several months left, so I'll just have to slowly gather firewood.

I dreamed of eating a goose stewed in an iron pot all night and waking up hungry in the morning. I got up, washed up, ate a steamed bun and pickles from the cafeteria, and hurried to work.

When I got to the office and no one showed up, I called Uncle Liu and asked him to ask the kang builder. He told her to wait and let her know when there was any news.

After I hung up, two or three people showed up for work. Judging by their attendance rate, their department was quite busy. They were slacking off at work, cracking sunflower seeds, knitting sweaters, and chatting about nothing when the boss wasn't around.

As they chatted happily, someone started talking to Jiang Cha. There was an old lady named Aunt Wang who was about to retire. When she heard her making a phone call, she asked her where she built her kang and where she lived.

It seems unsafe anywhere. Even my phone calls were overheard. Luckily, it wasn't anything shameful. I told her I wanted to build a kang (kang) to sleep comfortably in the winter, and a stove to make it easier to use water.

Honestly, I didn't mention anything else. They were whispering that Jiang Cha had connections, and anyone who offended her was fired. Some in the office were trying to get close to her, while others were trying to uncover her background by gossiping.

Some people even ignored her, which made her confused. Originally, she just wanted to keep a low profile, work, do some fishing, and make a fortune quietly.

Anyone who wants to stir up trouble cannot tell the truth. Building a kang sounds simple, and if you live in the countryside, you can understand it.

In the city, a tube-shaped building would definitely not work. In a large courtyard, with several people living in the family, you can't even get through the door if you put up a kang, let alone where to put the stove or chimney.

This is a roundabout way of asking where I live. Look how roundabout they are. Why do they say they've been here for over a week and don't know anyone? Even if they have eight hundred tricks, they won't be able to find out.

After lunch, I fell asleep on the table. Everyone was doing the same thing, so I just followed the crowd. Then someone woke me up, and when I looked up, I didn't recognize him.

"Xiao Jiang, I heard that you want to build a kang. My eldest brother from my mother's side is very good at this. Where is your home? I will ask him to come over and build it for you on Sunday. I guarantee it will be done quickly and well." A middle-aged woman was talking to herself. Who asked her to work?

"How did you know I was going to build a kang? Who told you?" He was still furious. Such a small thing was known to everyone. Couldn't this factory have secrets?

The middle-aged woman quickly said, "I'm Chen Zhaodi, who sorts ore in our production workshop. I heard from Qin Chunhua in the cafeteria that your house is quite large and you need a kang, so I came over to ask."

Perhaps seeing Jiang Cha's uneasy face, Chen Zhaodi excused herself and left. What's going on? She just took anyone home. Girls living alone should be aware of their safety. Why did she go to Uncle Liu? The deputy director must have someone who knows everything about her!

Just as he was sulking, the phone rang. Xiao Meng, who answered the phone, glared at him with her small eyes and whispered to her to answer the phone. "Xiao Jiang, I heard you want to build a kang. Have you found anyone? We have some good craftsmen in the engineering department. I'd like to call a few over for you."

Good heavens, this has even reached the factory director. "You're alarmed by such a small matter. I don't know who spread it. You know, where I live isn't very convenient. Uncle Liu said he'd find someone for me, so don't worry. I'll definitely not be polite to you if anything happens!"

After hanging up the phone, several people in the office were still there, and they looked like they wanted to find out more. Furious, Jiang Cha asked directly, "You guys are the only ones who know about this, how did it get to the whole factory after so long? Who's so gossipy?"

Without giving any face, Jiang Cha turned hostile. How can I stay here? Spreading trivial things everywhere, don't talk about her when you are a gossip!

She didn't just let it go. They were all colleagues. The child, who had been left unattended since childhood, was wild and unruly. The original owner's identity made her very stubborn.

Sister Wang smiled awkwardly and apologized to Jiang Cha, "I didn't expect that Qin Chunhua from the cafeteria would overhear us while we were having a meal and chatting. She told everyone in the factory about it. I didn't mean to do that. Please don't bother with me!"

She was enjoying the company of others at the train station, but now it was her turn, she was furious! She put down her pen and went straight to the cafeteria. She had to ask.

When a few people saw her leave, they hurried to find Section Chief Shao. This matter was about to get out of hand. This girl has a really bad temper. What a big deal! This Sister Wang is also not careful with her mouth. If this matter gets out of hand, she won't be able to escape.

I was busy cleaning up the cafeteria. "Who is Qin Chunhua? Come out." She was angry and her words were not very pleasant.

A group of people came running out, and there were people everywhere watching the fun. "Girl, what do you want to do with Qin Chunhua?" "What did Qin Chunhua do?" "Here she comes, Qin Chunhua comes."

The onlookers made way for a dark, thin woman who had her hair combed into a bun and was wearing a patched dress, her hands nervously clutching the hem of her clothes.

She doesn't look like someone who would gossip! Jiang Cha asked her directly, "You told everyone that I wanted to build a kang. What does my business have to do with you?"

He was mumbling, as if he was the one who had done something wrong. "Why are you spreading it around if you can't explain it clearly..." Before he could finish his sentence, the factory director came over.

"What's going on? Should I ask you or let the police station ask you?" Without waiting for Jiang Cha to speak, the factory director asked her directly.

"Why are you here? Who notified you? There's a fight going on among the workers in the factory. Just pretend you don't know. I don't want to make a big fuss."

The factory manager must have been frightened by her, so he could be prepared if it was that incident again. Hearing her say it was just a simple quarrel, he felt relieved.

"It wasn't my idea. My mother told me to say it." Seeing that the factory director was going to take her to the police station, she was so scared that her legs went weak and she sat on the ground and rushed out.
