Chapter 249 Harvesting the First Batch of Vegetables

The next day, Xiao Yunying woke up very early, following her biological alarm.

It was still pitch black outside, probably around four in the morning.

Actually, there's no need to get up so early. There aren't many ripe vegetables, and it won't take long for the whole family to pick them together. But she knew that her parents would definitely go to the greenhouse so early.

I went to the backyard while yawning, and looking towards the greenhouse from the back door, I could vaguely see light shining through the gaps in the greenhouse door.

Xiao Yunying didn't rush over. She went into the supermarket, quickly washed up, and then went to the kitchen to make egg pancake wrappers with the dough she had prepared the night before. She also made stir-fried bean sprouts with meat and stir-fried spicy and sour cabbage with meat, which could be rolled up in the pancakes.

I also made a simplified version of spicy soup. It's too cold on winter mornings, so I drank something hot to warm myself up.

Xiao Yunying looked around but couldn't find a suitable container: "There's nothing to put it in."

It's not far, let's come back again and again.

She put the pancakes and stir-fried vegetables into the food box, added chopsticks and spoons according to the number of people, and carried the food box in one hand and a few small bowls in the other, and went to the greenhouse through the back door.

Unable to open the door, she stood outside and called softly, "Father, Mother, please open the door for me."

Mu Lianrong came out and opened the door for her: "Girl, why are you up so early?"

"I'm not as early as you and my parents. If I had come any later, I would have finished all my work. I made some wraps. Dad, brothers and sisters-in-law, don't rush, come and eat."

In the corner of the greenhouse, there was a small table and stool, which her mother brought so that she could sit down and rest when she got tired of squatting while weeding.

Xiao Yunsong set up a small table, and Xiao Yunying placed the bowls on it. She then took out pancakes and vegetables from the food box: "I made rolled pancakes and spicy soup. You guys eat first."

Xiao Yunbo said, "I'll go get some water to wash my hands."

"Goodbye, Second Brother, your hands are freezing. I brought a face towel."

She took a few small towels soaked in hot water from the bottom of the food box and gave one to each person. The food box kept the food warm, and the towels were still warm.

"Just wipe your hands, they're not too dirty from digging in the dirt. This dish is meant to be rolled up in a pancake. You guys eat first, I'll go get the soup."

When I got home, I poured the spicy soup into a double-eared casserole and carried the whole pot over.

Xiao Yunying served the spicy soup to her family: "How is it? Is it delicious?"

Her father and her two older brothers ate quickly. Zhang put the pancakes she hadn't finished into her bowl, took one, stuffed it with stir-fried cabbage, rolled it up, and handed it to Xiao Yunsong after he finished eating, saying, "How can your cooking be bad?"

Mu Lianrong said, "Each pancake has an egg in it, how could it not taste good?"

Xiao Yunbai knew that his mother was reluctant to eat a few eggs from his younger sister again, so he quickly said, "That's right, your brother isn't a child anymore, he doesn't need to eat eggs. He can save them for himself later."

Xiao Yunying divided the hot and sour soup into portions, then sat down and rolled up a non-spicy bean sprout pancake to eat.

"Who made the rule that adults can't eat eggs and only children can eat them? In my opinion, it's not about who can eat them and who can't, it's just a matter of whether I'm willing to let him eat them."

Xiao Yunbo turned to Xiao Shanhai and said, "Father, look, doesn't my little sister look just like Mother when she's being unreasonable?"

Xiao Shanhai stiffened his neck and choked on the pancake in his mouth. He quickly picked up the hot and sour soup and drank a few mouthfuls to swallow the pancake.

Xiao Yunbai was unaware that he had said something wrong. He only realized it after his wife nudged him with her elbow. Before he could take back his words, Mu Lianrong yelled at him.

"You brat, so in your heart I'm just an unreasonable person."

Xiao Yunbo quickly pleaded for forgiveness: "Mother, I misspoke and didn't explain clearly. I meant that the aura was similar, not that you were being unreasonable."

Xiao Yunying suppressed a laugh and advised, "Mother, don't be angry. Second Brother has been rude for a long time. Besides, I think Second Brother is right. I am like Mother. It's good to be like Mother. With a strong presence, I won't be bullied."

Mu Lianrong immediately shut up: "You brat, if you can't speak properly, then shut up. Such a delicious pancake can't shut you up."

Xiao Yunying took her father's bowl, ladled out some soup, and handed it to him. Xiao Yunsong took the opportunity to help his second brother change the subject: "Little sister, why don't you drink this spicy soup?"

Her family members can all eat spicy food, so she added less chili when making the spicy soup: "I can't eat spicy food these days because it's inconvenient."

The meaning is quite clear, even in modern times, it would be easy to understand what it means for a woman to be unable to eat spicy food.

The problem is that this is ancient society, and the one asking her is her straight-laced brother, who nervously asks, "Little sister, are you feeling unwell? Have you been too busy and overworked lately? Have you seen a doctor?"

Zhang stuffed another pancake into his hand: "Yunying is fine, you should eat quickly, don't ask anymore."

Mu Lianrong rolled her eyes at her silly son. He's been married for so many years and he's still so clueless.

Xiao Yunsong wanted to ask more, but Mu Lianrong glared at him and told him to eat quickly and stop talking. After you finish eating, get back to work and don't delay the time it takes for them to pick up the vegetables.

Xiao Yunying doesn't eat much now. She doesn't do any physical labor, and her appetite is even smaller than that of her two sisters-in-law. She's full after eating just one pancake.

Then I sat there and talked and chatted with my family.

She enjoys spending leisure time with her family.

After everyone finished eating, Xiao Yunying collected the bowls and chopsticks and put them in the food box, then started picking vegetables together.

A layer of cotton cloth was placed inside the bamboo or willow basket to prevent the protruding branches from scratching the vegetables.

Zhang carefully pulled out a cherry radish and said, "These little radishes are so pretty, their bright red color is so pleasing to the eye."

Because of the special circumstances, Xiao Yunying's mother wouldn't let her bend over to do chores, so she could only put lettuce in the basket: "Cherry radishes are juicy and refreshing. Wash them and dip them directly in the sweet bean sauce I gave you, or cut them into shreds and mix them with sweet and sour sauce. They're both delicious."

Xiao Yunying briefly explained how to cook the vegetables that could be picked, and said to Mu Lianrong, "Mother, you can come and pick whatever vegetables you want to eat in the future. These vegetables are directly invested in Huiweilou, not sold by the pound. Don't be stingy."

"Wouldn't it be bad if the restaurants booked everything? It wouldn't be right for us to sneak a bite."

Xiao Yunying didn't know how to explain her cooperative relationship with Chen Yuancheng to her mother, so she could only say, "It's not stealing. I've already agreed with him that as long as we don't sell it, it's fine for our family to eat. I'm a vegetable grower, I can't just focus on making money and leave my family without vegetables to eat."

"I see. Just make things clear with them. I understand."

The family neatly arranged the picked vegetables in baskets and carried them to the entrance of the greenhouse.

Xiao Yunying turned off the oil lamp in the greenhouse and told her parents and brothers to go home first. She also told her two sisters-in-law to go home with her to get some cakes and vegetables for the children, so they wouldn't have to cook breakfast.
