"Yun Ying, why are you crying? Did I hurt you?"
This question seemed to flip a switch that had been holding back Xiao Yunying's emotions; she could no longer hold back and burst into tears.
"Why won't you let me leave? You're all bullying me. I want to go home. I don't want to stay here. I don't like it here."
This was the first time Luo Sheng had seen Xiao Yunying like this, and he hugged her with heartache: "I know, it's my fault for not protecting you well and making you suffer."
Xiao Yunying buried her face in his shoulder: "I didn't provoke anyone, so why does everyone bully me? Is it because I have no power? Why do people bully others? Isn't it better to live in peace? Just because I come from a humble background, am I destined to be bullied?"
Luo Ying gently patted her back to help her catch her breath: "I know our current life is very different from the life you described. It's normal that you're not used to it. It's not your problem."
Xiao Yunying cried out, "I don't like it here anymore. I want to go home. I miss my parents. Please let me go home. My parents are waiting for me to come home for the New Year. I'm their only daughter. If I die, they will be very sad."
Hearing her sobs, Luo Sheng felt a pang of heartache and asked in a dry voice, "Can...you still go back?"
The crying on her shoulder suddenly stopped. Luo Sheng sensed something was wrong and helped her sit up straight.
"Yun Ying?"
Tears streamed down Xiao Yunying's face as if she had come to terms with reality, and her eyes cleared up a bit.
She murmured, "Yes, there's no going back. I'm already dead, and my body has already been cremated."
