Chapter 31 Action

Commissioner Chen asked Zhang Xudong for the second reason.

Zhang Xudong pointed outside and said, "Many of the soldiers out there are only two or three years older than me. They have families too. I have the confidence and ability to complete the mission safely. I can't bear to see them make meaningless sacrifices. My conscience won't let me."

He then closed his mouth and stopped talking. The conference room fell silent. A moment later, Commissioner Chen took the lead and stood up. Everyone saluted Zhang Xudong and then burst into applause.

After the applause, Commissioner Chen asked everyone to sit down and continued, "A hero's father is a hero's son. I thank you on behalf of all the soldiers! Now we know your reasons, but how can you prove that you can ensure your own safety during the mission? This must convince us."

Zhang Xudong looked around the room and said helplessly, "This won't work in the house, we have to go to the yard."

"Okay, let's go to the yard." Commissioner Chen waved his hand and led everyone to the yard.

After arriving at the yard, Zhang Xudong first said to the soldiers who went into the mountains with him: "Comrades, please be careful, I will attack you in a while."

Zhang Xudong finished speaking, practicing his technique, his internal energy flowing. Then, with a leap of his legs, he was already mid-air. As his body passed over the eaves, he lightly tapped the roof with his right toe, and his body suddenly rose another three meters.

Zhang Xudong continued to descend at a rapid speed until he could no longer rise. Just as he was about to touch the ground, he bent his legs slightly, his feet firmly planted on the ground. Not a speck of dust rose from the ground. Shouts echoed from all around.

Zhang Xudong didn't stop, but whispered, "Be careful." His figure kept swaying, passing by the six people like lightning, and then stood still.

Everyone was confused. How could running in a circle be considered an attack? This was not a big deal!

Just as everyone was puzzled, they suddenly heard Platoon Leader Chen exclaim, "I won't move." Then one exclamation after another rang out.

"I can't move."

“I won’t move either.”

Six people in a row said they couldn't move. Everyone was stunned, then gathered around them in a frenzy, staring in wonder. They pinched one's face, poked another's stomach, patted another's shoulder, and made "tsk tsk" sounds. Oh my goodness, this is what they call acupressure, right?

"Young man, would you like to join the army? I'm their company commander, and I'm willing to recruit you. How about it? Wearing a military uniform and holding a steel gun is so majestic! Guarding the border and defending the country is so glorious! Follow me, and I promise you..."

"Old He, He Dapao, come here and get down to business first." When the company commander was fooling Zhang Xudong, Commissioner Chen called him over.

Captain He shook his head unwillingly and went to discuss things first.

Zhang Xudong curled his lips. They were all thousand-year-old foxes who had become immortals. Who could be fooling who?

Zhang Xudong unblocked the acupuncture points for several people and bowed to apologize. Several people did not care and surrounded Zhang Xudong, wanting to learn a few moves.

Finally, several leaders discussed it and decided to give the raid mission to Zhang Xudong.

"Platoon Leader Chen, you will lead two squads of soldiers to blockade the northern cliff of Yezhuzigou tomorrow, and assist Zhang Xudong in completing the raid." Company Commander He began to assign tasks.

"Zhang Xudong, what weapons do you need?"

"I have my own Tang Dao, which I am very familiar with. I don't need anything else."

"Then you should go back and rest now. You will meet up with Platoon Leader Chen at 3:00 AM and set off."

Zhang Xudong went home after receiving the task. He was so busy that he didn't stay home for long. When he got home, he found that his grandmother and younger sister were already asleep, so he didn't disturb them.

………………………………

Zhang Xudong met up with Platoon Leader Chen at three o'clock, and arrived at the designated location before dawn with two squads of soldiers.

Zhang Xudong crouched on the clifftop directly above the tent, looking around. The enemy agents below were probably still asleep, as no one was visible outside the tent.

There were no people around the ditch, but there was no sound of insects or birds, only a dead silence, which indicated that the area was full of ambushes.

It wasn't until after nine o'clock that figures began to appear on the west side of the ditch. Hearing the noise outside, three people emerged from the large tent. These three were the Japanese people Zhang Xudong had met when he first arrived. Scarface and the other two also emerged from their own small tent.

After greeting the people who had just arrived, the three Japanese people took out several boxes of canned food and sake from the tent and let the people eat, drink and rest. They were probably waiting for the next people to come.

By eleven o'clock in the morning, more than thirty people had gathered in the ditch. Some dressed like farmers, looking honest and simple; some wore blue work clothes like workers; some were more refined, like teachers or scholars. It was a mixed crowd, with people of all backgrounds.

There were ugly people, handsome people, lame people, people with crooked mouths, and all kinds of people, young and old. I don't know why these people would do anything else but become spies?

The man named Shanye took a piece of paper and began to check the names of the people who came in against the list. Shanye checked the list, said something to Tianbian, and then started to ask the people to gather together, as it seemed that someone wanted to speak.

Zhang Xudong saw the people below begin to gather, and he knew the mission was about to begin. He stepped back a little and stretched his body.

Platoon Leader Chen turned around and whispered to him, "The company commander has sent a signal, asking us to be prepared." After hearing this, Zhang Xudong slowly got up and squatted on the ground.

After waiting for a minute, Platoon Leader Chen said, "Begin the movement." Zhang Xudong quickly grabbed his Tang sword, walked to the edge of the cliff, and dove headfirst toward the tent.

Zhang Xudong plummeted headfirst, the wind whistling in his ears. In a flash, he was nearing the top of the tent. With a swift, quick swing of his knife, he ripped the tent apart with a swish, and instantly disappeared from the tent.
