Chapter 334: Battle of Eastmark
"At least there is one good news. Gollum should not have fallen into the hands of Mordor yet."
Gandalf was certainly not someone who couldn't tell the difference between primary and secondary.
It was precisely because he was sure of this information that he was not too anxious and stayed in Gondor for a longer period of time.
After coming out of Gondor, he reunited with Aragorn again.
The two began to search for the places where Gollum had appeared. Their footprints were all over the east of the Misty Mountains, from the Anduin Valley to the Mirkwood, from the Rhovanion District to the Brown Land, and then to the Dead Swamp...
But there are no clues.
"It looks like your search wasn't going very well."
In 3002, Levi met these two busy guys in a temporary camp near the Brown Land in the east of Rohan.
Gandalf replied, "It's not going well. Gollum's movements are very strange. He seems to have entered Mordor, but sometimes we can find new traces outside Mordor that are suspected to be left by him."
"Suspicious, isn't it?"
Aragorn nodded and added:
"What's even more suspicious is that his 'hunting' signs are very frequent, including animals, Orcs, and even Uruks. I don't understand. If Gollum is really as thin as described, how did he kill creatures stronger than himself?"
"He must have some helpers, or some special means."
Levi thought for a moment and asked, "Have you ever carefully observed those skeletons?"
"No—I mean, no skeletons."
Aragorn looked at Levi and said, "In fact, I only guessed about his hunting through some vague traces and observing the movements of the Orcs."
"I ventured to the vicinity of Mordor and eavesdropped on their conversation. Because there were too many missing Orcs, a lame Uruk leader even suspected a traitor and flew into a rage in the barracks, declaring martial law."
"Let's not talk about that for now."
Gandalf took over the conversation, looked at Levi and said, "Let's talk about you. Why are you here?"
Not only Gandalf, but Aragorn was also surprised.
"Why did you suddenly come to the eastern border of Rohan? Did something happen here?"
Li Wei raised his eyebrows and replied, "Can't we just come out for a stroll?"
"Just out for a stroll?"
Gandalf stared at Levi, as if to say, "Don't fool me."
"Okay, I knew I couldn't hide it from you. Actually, there are still some things to do."
Levi stopped teasing him and explained, "I learned from the border guards that a large number of Orcs have recently gathered upstream of the Falls of Rauros and are heading towards Rohan."
"And, just a few days ago, scouts from the Northern Loop discovered a large army of Orcs in the hills of Emyn Muil, but the people of Rohan don't know about this yet."
"Anyway, there's nothing important, so I just stopped by to take a look and bring some news."
"Well...it is indeed important news."
Gandalf nodded his approval.
While the conversation was going on, Aragorn suddenly stood up.
“They are back.”
Boom…
A group of cavalrymen galloped towards this simple temporary military camp, and slowly slowed down as they approached.
After seeing the faces of the three men clearly, the leading captain dismounted directly, took off his helmet, and walked up to the three men.
"Greetings to you, respected Lord of the North, and the Grey Wizard, and..."
The captain greeted the three people here one by one, but when it was Aragorn's turn, he got stuck.
Aragorn was really too low-key. Except for Theoden and those who fought with him in the past, no one else knew him at all.
Levi took the initiative to introduce: "This is Aragorn, son of Arathorn. He once fought alongside your king and is a friend of your king."
"I see. Greetings, Lord Aragorn."
The cavalry captain had no doubt about Levi's words and believed whatever he said.
This is where the benefits of reputation come in.
After the greetings, the captain asked Levi directly: "What is there here that is worthy of your personal visit?"
So Levi told the information he had learned.
"Emin Muil Hills!?"
When the team leader heard the place name, his face suddenly froze.
"You mean there's an army of Orcs there?"
"Indeed, this is the intelligence brought by the scouts from Nanhetao. It is highly credible."
Seeing that the cavalry captain's face looked a little strange, Levi immediately asked, "What's wrong?"
The captain replied, "Just now, a group of Oaks who tried to invade East Mark were defeated and fled. Our marshal led his men to pursue them, and they left in the direction of that hill."
"Who is your marshal and how many people did he bring with him?"
"It was Lord Eomund. He only brought a few dozen people with him."
"How rash!" Gandalf rebuked angrily.
"It looks like we have some new activities to do."
As the most prestigious person present, Levi immediately mounted his horse, waved his hand, and shouted, "Move, follow me to support your marshal!"
The soldiers were stunned for a moment and looked at their immediate superior, the cavalry captain.
Then he discovered that the captain had already mounted his horse and was following Levi.
"Let's go!"
After receiving the captain's order, they immediately made preparations and followed the few people eastward.
With them were Gandalf and Aragorn, who certainly would not just sit there and wait.
…
"Haha, a bunch of idiots, they fell into the trap."
At the Emyn Muil Hill, several Orc scouts on guard could not help laughing at the small cavalry group chasing the remnants of the defeated army not far away.
"I recognize that man. He's their marshal."
"Go and inform the boss quickly. Killing him will be a great achievement!"
The pursued Orcs fell one by one, screaming under the horses' hooves, but the Orc scouts hiding in the darkness just watched and paid no attention.
This continued until the Orc army arrived behind them.
"kill!!"
The Orc leader raised his scimitar and shouted, and led his army forward.
"Not good, retreat quickly!"
When the chief marshal of Rohan, Eomund, Lord of Ordburg, saw that something was wrong, he turned around immediately.
But it was too late.
While they were concentrating on clearing out the Orcs in front of them, an encirclement had quietly formed.
Éomund raised his head, looked left and right, and a cold sweat broke out.
There were only dozens of cavalrymen on their side, but the enemy's number was a hundred times that of theirs, with thousands of Orcs surrounding them. With such a huge numerical gap, any tactics would be useless.
Break out? There is no way out at all.
It seems that there is no going back today.
"I'm sorry. This action was entirely due to my recklessness."
Eomund took a deep breath and said, "It is an honor to fight with you all, but now it seems that we may have to fight the last battle of our lives here."
He raised his sword high and shouted: "Let our enemies see what it means to face death with courage and what it means to be brave!"
"Brave warriors, follow me and charge!"
"Rush towards the enemy, rush towards destruction——"
"rush!!!"
Dozens of cavalrymen shouted in unison, bringing out the momentum of thousands of people.
“Kill them!”
The Oak leader snorted disdainfully and signaled the army to move forward.
A few dozen cavalrymen and thousands of Orcs were getting closer and closer. Those ugly, ferocious and mocking faces were right in front of them. They followed the leader's command to form a formation to deal with the cavalry charge.
It's all over.
Éomund's eyes were firm.
In his last moments, he thought of his children, his son Éomer, and his daughter Éowyn, who were still young.
But fortunately, there is Theoden, who will definitely take good care of them.
Boom…
The sound of numerous horse hooves close to his ears brought Eomund back to his senses, and a strong vibration was felt behind him.
Eomund raised his head instinctively, and saw a very fast figure rushing forward one step ahead of him and the dozens of cavalrymen around him. He rushed forward with a loud bang and used the dark red and black sword in his hand to smash a breakthrough in the Orc army formation.
"Join the queue, charge!!"
Immediately afterwards, as the captain gave the order to charge, a large number of cavalry joined the battlefield. They followed behind Eomund and joined the small team led by Eomund, and charged forward together.
The cavalry regiment, which had grown in number more than ten times, charged straight into the gap, piercing through the entire Orc army and tearing it in half.
"It seems I arrived just in time."
Levi picked up the greatsword and stood in the middle of the army. The surrounding Oaks immediately retreated like crazy and almost collapsed.
"you…"
Eomund choked up for a moment, not knowing what to say.
"reckless!"
A gentle but stern voice came from behind. Eomund was startled. Gandalf, who came slower with Glamdring in his hand, turned around and rebuked him. He also quickly joined the battlefield, riding a horse as fast as Rohan's and fighting bravely.
