Chapter 15 I Only Want Her

Chapter 15 I Only Want Her

In their London apartment, the Lin family's weekly video call invitation arrived as scheduled.

Lin Chengyu adjusted the angle of his laptop and clicked to accept the video request.

The screen lights up, displaying a warm scene in the Lin family's living room in Hangzhou: Mr. Lin is sitting on the sofa reading a newspaper, while Mrs. Lin is arranging flowers beside him, with a few white plum blossoms diagonally inserted into a Chinese-style vase.

"Son!" Lin's mother immediately put down the flower branch and leaned closer to the screen, a smile blooming on her well-maintained face. "Why have you lost weight again?"

Lin Chengyu smiled unconsciously.

Mr. Lin glanced at the newspaper from above and said, "Your mother thinks everyone is thin." He put down the newspaper, walked behind his wife, and casually massaged her shoulders. "Your shoulders must be sore from bending over for so long while arranging flowers today."

Lin's mother squinted comfortably.

This couple, married for thirty years, still maintain the intimacy they had when they were newlyweds. Lin Chengyu had grown up watching his father gently tidy his mother's hair and drape her clothes over her shoulders.

Perhaps this is why he has an almost obsessive-compulsive obsession with relationships.

“Oh, right,” Mr. Lin suddenly frowned as if remembering something, “Son, when your mother heard you say you wanted to get married last time, she got so excited that she had someone collect information on eligible young ladies all over the country overnight.” He pointed to the thick stack of folders on the coffee table, “Now she insists that I pick a few suitable ones from them.”

Lin's mother patted her husband's hand: "Didn't you say you were urging us to have a grandson?" She turned to the screen, "Cheng Yu, Mom has seen them all, and there are a few really nice girls..."

"No need to choose," Lin Chengyu interrupted her.

On the other end of the video, Lin's parents were both stunned.

Lin Chengyu's voice was very soft, yet it was like a drop of ink falling into clear water, instantly changing the tone of the entire conversation.

"What?" Mr. Lin stopped massaging.

"No need to look anymore." Lin Chengyu's voice came from the laptop speaker, three points lower than usual.

Lin's mother looked up at the screen. Her son's usually smiling phoenix eyes were now slightly narrowed, and his jawline was taut.

"Son?" she called tentatively. "These girls are all very outstanding..."

"Mom, don't waste your time." Lin Chengyu interrupted her again. "I said, I don't need it."

Mr. Lin frowned: "How dare you talk to your mother like that?"

Suddenly, Lin's mother covered her mouth: "Oh my god!" She grabbed her husband's sleeve, her voice trembling, "Honey, our son wouldn't...like......"

Lin's father's glasses slid down to the tip of his nose: "What?"

"It's a boy! I'll have someone find a suitable one right away..."

"Mom!" Lin Chengyu sighed, his previously powerful aura instantly crumbling.

The panicked look on his parents' faces on the other end of the screen made him both laugh and cry. "No..."

Lin's mother had already taken out her phone: "I remember the Zhou family's youngest son just came back from Cambridge..."

“Yan Shuang,” Lin Chengyu said.

The air froze.

"who?"

Lin Chengyu felt his heartbeat suddenly become unusually clear, pounding against his chest.

His left hand, hanging by his side, clenched unconsciously, then slowly relaxed.

“I choose Yan Shuang.” When he said this name, there was a brief silence on the other end of the screen.

Mr. and Mrs. Lin looked at each other, not quite understanding what was happening.

"Yan Shuang?" Lin's mother murmured, repeating, "Why does that name sound so familiar..."

Lin's father stroked his chin thoughtfully: "Is it... that Yan family member...?"

Looking at his parents' confused expressions, Lin Chengyu suddenly felt a strange sense of relief.

This name, which he had always treasured in the deepest corner of his heart, has finally seen the light of day.

“Yes, the second young lady of the Yan family.” He said softly, his voice so steady that even he was surprised. “Yan Shuang.”

The video seemed to freeze for a second; Lin's mother's pupils dilated slightly, and Lin's father's hand froze in mid-air.

Outside the window, the London evening bells were just ringing, their melodious chimes echoing through the living room and resonating wonderfully with the sound of wind chimes from the courtyard in Hangzhou.

Lin's father finally found his voice: "When did you..." He didn't finish his sentence because Lin's mother suddenly grabbed his hand, her eyes shining brightly.

"I remember now!" she exclaimed, her expression gradually shifting from shock to sudden realization. "So that's why you insisted on going to the hotel early that day..."

Lin Chengyu did not deny it.

The moment he uttered Yan Shuang's name, he felt as if he had unloaded a burden he had carried for many years, and his whole body felt so light that he almost floated away.

Night had completely fallen in London.

Looking at his parents' understanding expressions in the video, Lin Chengyu suddenly felt that the 8,000-kilometer distance between Eurasia had become insignificant at this moment.

"Dad, Mom," he took a deep breath, "help me."

Lin's father's fountain pen fell to the ground with a thud.

Lin's mother rushed to the pile of documents on the other side of the coffee table: "Wait! The Yan family's documents must be there..."

"No need to look anymore." Lin Chengyu's tone softened unconsciously as he watched his mother's flustered state. "She won't be in these documents."

Lin's mother paused, then slowly raised her head.

The son on the screen turned his head slightly, subconsciously avoiding her gaze.

His voice was soft and clear, "But I only want her."

Lin's parents exchanged a glance across the screen and suddenly burst into laughter.

"You should have said so earlier!" Lin's father picked up his pen and wrote "Yan Shi" on the notepad with a flourish.

Lin's mother had already dialed the phone: "Hello? Secretary Li? Immediately obtain all the information on the second young lady of the Yan family... What? Of course, it's for the marriage proposal!"
