Chapter 46 Older Man: Other people's brothers are so good, but what about mine...?
"Their family is really strange, don't you think?" Wen Han exclaimed. "They're not in a hurry for their son to date in high school, but they're even planning to get him married."
“He’s the kind of child Gu Cheng had around the same age.” Jing Yu helped him put on a band-aid. “The Gu family gets married very early.”
A bad feeling crept into her mind, and Wen Han asked, "Does their family have a gene for short lifespans?"
Jing Yu said helplessly, "Of course not, go to sleep quickly, we have to get up early tomorrow."
"oh."
"Don't go."
Wen Han had just closed her eyes while lying in bed when she heard Jing Yu say this.
"Um?"
"Don't go to the Gu family's banquet." Jing Yu turned off the small lamp. "Gu Zong's attitude is a bit strange."
Is it strange? Gu Zong is quite a strange person. Wen Han wasn't interested in the Gu family's affairs: "Fine, I'll just say I haven't finished my homework."
There was no noise, and lying on the comfortable bed with a human-shaped aromatherapy bottle next to her, Wen Han finally had a good night's sleep.
*
"Jingzhao, why are you up so early?" Wen Han asked, seeing that she was already eating breakfast. "You don't have to go to school."
"I need to check on the business; please make me get up early."
"Running a business?" Wen Han asked in surprise. "You're still a child, what kind of business are you doing?"
Some people are already thinking about starting a business when they are still in junior high school, while Wen Han, who is in high school, only thinks about holidays.
"Wanwanjia developed a commercial street in Yunjiahu last year, and there are still a few stalls there."
"Nonsense." Jing Feng frowned. "Why didn't you discuss it with your family? It's not convenient for you to go out."
"I have the inhibitor patch, so nothing will go wrong. Wanwan said that all the people working there today are Betas. As long as I take the inhibitor on time, I won't have any problems."
Jing Feng didn't think there was anything wrong with Jing Zhao's whim. It was fine for a little girl to do business and sell some trinkets. The main concern was safety.
“The patch hasn’t been released yet, so its effectiveness is not very stable,” Jing Feng advised. “If it really doesn’t work, you can wait until Wen Han is free this weekend and go with you. They get a day off every week now.”
Jing Zhao was a little sullen: "Alright, then I'll talk to Wanwan about it."
——
There was only one exam in the morning, Chinese. After Wen Han arrived at the classroom, she was thinking of taking out the ancient poems to memorize again, but she found that her key was missing and immediately became anxious.
Last night, I was planning to go to Jingyu's house, so I put my electric scooter key in the desk drawer for convenience, but the key is nowhere to be found.
"Where did it go? I clearly put it on top."
"Wen Han, what's wrong?"
"I can't find my keys, and they're not on the floor either." Wen Han's desk was usually crammed with test papers, making it particularly difficult to find them. Wen Han was so anxious that she was sweating profusely.
"Don't worry, I'll look for it with you."
The two searched every nook and cranny of the desk but couldn't find the key. Wen Han even suspected a thief had broken into the classroom. Just as Wen Han was about to go to the office to check the security footage, Wen Ruo and Wen Ruan came in together. When Wen Ruan saw Wen Han rummaging through the desk, her eyes immediately became evasive.
The system has sharp eyes: "Look, isn't that your key in Wen Ruo's hand?"
Wen Han tied a small red string to the key. When he looked up, he saw that Wen Ruo was holding something tightly in her hand, but a small piece of red string was still hanging outside.
Wen Ruo stiffened slightly. He had intended to secretly put the key back before Wen Han arrived. He and Wen Ruan had even left ten minutes early, but Wen Han arrived before them.
With a cold face and suppressing her anger, Wen Han whispered to Jing Yu, "I know where the key is, you don't need to look for it anymore."
He walked straight up to Wen Ruo and held out his hand. Wen Ruo returned the keys to him and continued to argue, "I originally wanted to borrow your car, but you had already left with Jing Yu."
"You were planning to borrow it? Weren't you waiting for me to leave before getting the key?"
"Think what you want." Wen Ruo turned her head away. "Dad has already fixed the car."
"Host, don't take it to heart," the system comforted Wen Han, who had opened the book and remained silent.
"Other people's brothers are so good, how come my brother is this kind of person?" Wen Han said angrily. "If Jing Yu and Wen Ruo were switched, I would gladly have him as my brother."
"Huh?" the system exclaimed. "But Jingyu is a year older than you, so he can't be your younger brother."
"What?" Jing Yu is actually older than him?
“You’re seventeen, he’s eighteen,” the system added. “He’ll be an adult by the end of this semester.”
When the bell rang, the homeroom teacher told everyone to start moving their desks. Jingyu and Wenhan's desks were moved outside so they didn't have to pile their books at the back.
Their school arranged exam rooms according to grades, from Class 1 all the way to the science lab. Wen Ruan always took exams in Class 1, while Gu Cheng always took exams in the science lab, which was a whole building away from Wen Ruan.
*
"We're in this exam room again." Fang Songxia's Chinese was so-so that she was too lazy to review, so she simply chatted with Wen Han instead.
This time, Wen Han was 13 and Fang Songxia was 12, who happened to be sitting in front of him.
"What bad luck," Fang Songxia whispered. "Look outside."
Wen Han looked out the window. Wasn't that Zhang Yongqi? Zhang Yongqi was actually in the same exam room as them?
Zhang Yongqi carried his schoolbag and looked for his seat. Coincidentally, he was number 14.
Fang Songxia glanced at it and saw that the number 14 on the desk behind Wen Han's desk was written as Zhang Yongqi.
Zhang Yongqi naturally saw Wen Han as well. His expression became slightly unnatural for a moment, but he sat down in his seat without saying a word.
The students around were either reading or had gone to the restroom when suddenly there was a commotion outside the corridor, with several people shouting and yelling. Wen Han thought she was in a zoo.
"Damn it!" one of them yelled as soon as he reached the door, "Zhang Yongqi, you beast, you were secretly studying behind the brothers' backs!"
"That's right, you swept up Class 5 and left your brothers in the lab. When Brother Cheng comes back, he'll bring justice to you."
Zhang Yongqi laughed twice and started joking and playing around with them.
Fang Songxia watched for a while as if observing a monkey, then whispered to Wen Han, "See? I always told you to study hard, but you never listened. Now you regret it, don't you?"
Wen Han was initially annoyed, but after hearing what he said, she was amused and burst out laughing.
The group of people immediately looked at Wen Han with hostility, and were incredulous to see that Wen Han was perfectly fine.
"What?" Wen Han chuckled softly. "You're disappointed that I wasn't bumped into or scraped my skin?"
He had a smile on his lips, but there was no smile in his eyes; instead, they were cold and indifferent.
"Are you sick?" The man, who had dark skin, wore glasses, and looked quite like a Japanese officer, spoke in a sarcastic tone. "What bullshit are you talking about?"
The group immediately burst into laughter. Wen Han wasn't angry. He held Fang Songxia's hand, turned to Zhang Yongqi, and asked, "Is this the urgent matter you were talking about?"
Zhang Yongqi suddenly felt embarrassed.
What are you talking about?
"I thought it was something serious," Wen Han said calmly. "Driving so fast, anyone who didn't know better would think you were going to be reincarnated. You don't need to tell me next time."
"Zhang Yongqi, what nonsense is he spouting? What do you want with him?"
"You guys really don't know how to read the room." Wen Han raised her eyebrows slightly and propped herself up on her arms. "He's already in the top 200 in the whole school, and you're still foolishly trying to chat with him. He's just having fun with you, but he's not on your side in any other way."
"Bullshit, what do you know!"
"Of course I don't understand." Seeing their anxiety, Wen Han sneered, "How could I understand petty thugs? I'm not that stupid, I don't meet your standards."
The other person suddenly grabbed Wen Han's collar. Zhang Yongqi's expression changed, and he tried to stop them, but then stopped abruptly. Wen Han glanced at his hand gripping her collar, then looked at his furious face, her eyes full of amusement: "Want to hit me? Go ahead."
Wen Han smiled slightly and said, "It just so happens that Jin Mingxuan is still a few days away from being released, so you can keep him company when you go in."
The other person gritted their teeth and loosened their grip a little.
Just then, the proctor walked in and, seeing that someone looked like they were about to fight, immediately shouted, "Stop!"
The teacher asked, "Which exam room are you from?"
Fang Songxia patted Wen Han's collar, and Wen Han answered for them, "They're from the biology lab."
The biology lab was one of the last exam rooms, and the students who lined up there were all at the bottom of the class. The teacher frowned and said, "The biology lab is so far away, why did you come here? There are only a few minutes left before the exam, hurry back to the exam room."
The group left indignantly, giving Wen Han a fierce glare as they went.
Fang Songxia pressed, "What happened? Which car was driving fast? Which one didn't fall?"
The teacher was a little annoyed, but Wen Han quietly reassured her, "I'm fine, I'm perfectly alright. Turn your head back quickly, they're about to hand out the test papers."
*
Wen Han did well in Chinese, so she buried herself in the test paper as soon as she got it.
The two and a half hours of the exam went by quickly. After the exam papers were collected, everyone was preparing to go back to the classroom when Zhang Yongqi stopped him: "Hey, aren't you afraid they'll cause you trouble?"
"So you did try to remind me before." Wen Han glanced at him. "Gu Cheng's father won't spoil him anymore. I'll say it again: he can act recklessly, but your friends shouldn't think they're like him just because they're hanging out with him."
It's hard to be quiet in a classroom after an exam. Many people are comparing answers. Fang Songxia, whose Chinese is just average, shoved the test paper into her desk as soon as she got back to the classroom and refused to look at it. She even covered her ears.
Wen Ruan was mild-mannered. When others asked him for the test paper, he would obediently hand it over after a little coaxing. Within two minutes, the correct answers were known throughout the classroom. Some were happy, some were sad. Zhang Huihui took out the test paper, glanced at it, and then silently lay on the table without moving.
The afternoon exams are math and physics. There's not much point in reviewing math now, and Wen Han is just going to give up on physics.
"Jingyu, which exam room are you in?"
"Biological laboratory".
"Ah? Oh, you're a freshman, I remember now." Wen Han recalled those extraordinary people, "Did those people force you to pass on the answers to them?"
Jing Yu nodded. Wen Han was furious; he knew Jing Yu would be bullied by them.
