Chapter 26 Seeking Medical Treatment
Three military trucks were driving on a winding mountain road.
The atmosphere in the first carriage was particularly depressing.
Wu Changlin's eyes were red as he helped the accompanying doctor Yang hold the bleeding shoulder of the young man. "I'm sorry, Captain, I didn't do the job you assigned me. We successfully led the retreat, but I made a careless noise, which caused you to be exposed while trying to save me and be surrounded. You're so badly injured. When you recover, I... I'll make you stab me in the back to make it up to you!"
As he spoke, tears began to flow.
The young man lay there with a bullet lodged in his shoulder blade, close to his heart. He also had multiple horrific knife wounds. His eyes were closed, his brow furrowed in agony. His face was pale, devoid of any color.
His eyes didn't open, but he managed to utter a few words, "I'm not dead yet, who are you mourning for?" His words were harsh but weak, which made Wu Changlin feel even more guilty.
Wu Changlin's hands were shaking as he looked at the blood that he couldn't hold back.
He recalled a mission last year where a comrade of his was bleeding like this, so much blood. He was still talking one second and was gone the next.
"It's not your fault. In my opinion, the blame should go to the Second Company's commander, Gu Zhenbei. He suddenly showed up and disrupted our formation.
There was nothing wrong with our original retreat plan. It was just that guy who was too eager for quick success and was afraid that he would be missed out on this mission. The battalion commander had already told him to just take the girl home and wait for us to reunite in Kaoshan Town. He would definitely not be missed out on any of the credit.
Hey, this bastard is so good, it's like he has a GPS installed. He found such a large and obscure area and suddenly joined in. You reacted to protect everyone else. Why blame you? In my opinion, you shouldn't blame yourself. We'll find a time to put that damn bastard in the sack later.
The company commander was comforting them and cursing at the same time.
Doctor Yang rolled his eyes at him and said, "Old Liu, please stop talking. You're disturbing the patient."
Old Liu stopped talking immediately. "I'm just learning that strategic conversation technique to distract attention. Your medical team taught me that."
This didn't make sense, so Doctor Yang ignored him and turned to talk to Wu Changlin, whose hands were shaking.
"Wu Changlin, hold on tight! If your hand shakes a few more times, Captain Qian will bleed to death."
Doctor Yang sighed inwardly as he treated the patient to stop the bleeding. He felt a pity.
Captain Qian was such a promising young talent, having already been promoted at just 22, his future was bright. However, the injury occurred precisely on the shoulder's impact point. While his life could be saved, the current medical equipment and technology at the military hospital made it difficult to prevent any residual effects.
He has seen too many players retire due to injuries, and he still feels regretful after seeing so many times.
Military doctors can only provide emergency treatment now, and then send the patient to the military hospital for further treatment.
Considering that there was still some distance to go, they stopped at Kaoshan Town to resupply some medicines at the town hospital just in case.
Doctor Yang personally handled these medical procedures to prevent them from making mistakes.
While waiting for supplies, he heard an old doctor say to a patient, "Your father has hemiplegia from a stroke. It's not that we can't treat him, but we don't have the conditions or the expertise to do it here in this small place. However, I did see a young Chinese medicine practitioner save a patient who had just had a stroke. After the acupuncture, the patient was immediately full of life. But you already have hemiplegia, so I'm not sure if she can cure you."
The patient's family asked where the surgery was and whether it was expensive. When they heard that it was a young girl and that it was so far away, they decided to give up.
However, their conversation caught the attention of Doctor Yang.
Can stroke be cured? The best their military hospital can do is to ensure that stroke patients can maintain their condition with medication and prevent it from getting worse. There has never been a case where a stroke can be reversed.
If that Chinese doctor is really that good, then his medical skills are already very impressive. I wonder if he can cure someone like Captain Qian.
He stopped the old doctor and asked, "Hello, I'm Dr. Yang Sixian from the xx Military Region Hospital. I just heard you mention that amazing Chinese medicine doctor. I'd like to ask him something, is that okay?"
Doctor Yang finally got the address, which he carefully placed in his pocket. This might be useful to Captain Qian.
I hope it was just a misjudgment on my part and he won't have to use it.
The convoy returned to the military region and Qian Jingsheng was rushed to the military hospital for treatment.
The doctor performed a series of examinations on him, then reported solemnly to the officers waiting outside, "Captain Qian's injuries aren't serious this time, but the problem is the location of his wound. The bullet wound hit the shoulder, the point where the force is applied. The bullet has completely penetrated. Suturing the wound won't be difficult for us, but the concern is that he might have sequelae, and his right arm might no longer be suitable for lifting heavy objects."
Captain Zhao's face was full of worry.
Qian Jingsheng was a promising young talent he had chosen to promote. He had joined the army early, possessed a sharp mind, excellent skills, and a healthy dose of luck. At 16, he had just been recruited as a special talent and participated in the 1979 counterattack, performing exceptionally well. He was immediately awarded a first-class merit. In the following years, he continued to receive numerous honors, becoming the youngest battalion commander at the age of 22.
He was assigned to their regiment only because he had shamelessly fought hard for it. He had high hopes for this kid. And now he might be discharged due to injury, which was a pity.
When I think about his background, I am even more worried.
Whether in terms of personal strength or family background, his future development will be beyond his reach.
Now he not only lost a good seedling, but also couldn't explain to his family.
Just when Captain Zhao was at a loss, Doctor Yang suggested, "I've heard of a very skilled Chinese medicine practitioner, but I've never met her in person. An old doctor at a hospital claimed she could cure strokes, and the results were immediate. I even went to the scene to verify this, and someone confirmed it was true, saying she was the reincarnation of Hua Tuo."
As soon as these words came out, Captain Zhao's eyes lit up as if he had grabbed a life-saving straw.
"Damn it! I knew this kid had a way out. Pah, I'm completely confused! I knew this kid had some lucky chance. Where is he? Go find him right now!"
"Wenwei County, Linshan Town, Xiahe Village. That's all I know."
Captain Zhao's brows were furrowed so tightly that they could kill a fly.
"Then what are you waiting for? Hurry up and send the person over safely as quickly as possible."
"But this doesn't comply with the regulations."
"I'm going to apply now. You guys run first, no, walk first. Be quiet so as not to get caught. By the time the report comes out, it will be too late." As he said this, he strode away.
