Chapter 89 The Wolf King
Xia Qianqian's heart tightened, and she stopped abruptly. Then, she casually switched the bag to her other hand, taking the opportunity to quickly glance at her left and right sides out of the corner of her eye.
However, the suspicious person mentioned in the comments was nowhere to be seen.
Thinking of this, Xia Qianqian's heart clenched even tighter—not seeing him didn't mean he wasn't there; he might be hiding in some corner, spying on her!
The department store was bustling with people; if anything happened, she could just shout, and someone would surely help. But she feared that person might be determined to follow her to a secluded spot, in which case she might lose not only her money, but also her life…
Xia Qianqian dared not think any further, only feeling a chill run down her spine.
What should she do? She was so anxious that sweat beaded on her forehead, and her mind raced.
Suddenly, her eyes lit up, and she had an idea.
Xia Qianqian turned around and pleaded with the sales clerk who had helped her pack the items, "Excuse me, I'm so sorry, but I suddenly have a terrible stomachache. Could you please watch over these things for me? I'm going to the restroom and I'll be right back."
Seeing that her face was indeed a little pale and that there was a fine sheen of sweat on her forehead, the sales clerk readily agreed: "No problem, go ahead, the things won't get lost if you leave them here."
Xia Qianqian thanked her and almost immediately took off running, rushing towards the women's restroom.
The person who had been following her was lingering not far from the mall entrance, waiting for her to come out with her things. When he suddenly saw her turn around and start jogging, he panicked.
Afraid of losing sight of his target, he disregarded the stares of others and hurriedly pushed aside the customers blocking his way to catch up.
Xia Qianqian deliberately ran in the direction of the fitting room mirror. This time, she finally saw the person who had been following her. It was one of the people who helped move goods in the black market!
Her heart sank. She clutched her stomach and hid in a toilet stall, locking the door behind her. Her back pressed tightly against the cold door, she gasped for breath, her mind racing.
It turns out that people from the black market have their eyes on me!
This is a hundred times more serious than encountering an ordinary thief!
If it were an ordinary thief, she could find a way to shake them off, but the people in the black market... they not only know she has goods on her, but they may also have figured out her background!
Xia Qianqian felt colder and colder as she thought about it, her fingers gripping the hem of her clothes tightly until her knuckles turned white.
This is a huge problem!
As Xia Qianqian anxiously considered her options, she heard footsteps approaching from afar. The pursuer had actually caught up with her to the bathroom door.
Why are you going into the women's restroom?!
An angry woman's voice came from outside. However, the man, as if possessed, rushed in recklessly, shouting at the top of his lungs, "My wife is lost! I have to look for her!"
Immediately following was a series of violent banging sounds, as the man kicked the toilet doors one by one.
Xia Qianqian was so frightened that her face turned pale. She didn't care about anything else and entered the Peach Blossom Spring with a thought.
In the Peach Blossom Spring, the scene remained tranquil and healing. However, Xia Qianqian had no heart to appreciate the beauty at this moment; her mind was filled with frustration and worry.
She could hide in her paradise and wait for the man to leave. But the thought of all the things she had left in the mall made Xia Qianqian's heart ache.
Those things cost her most of her money! Just thinking about the man taking them made her bite her lip.
Xia Qianqian sat on a large rock by the stream, her hands supporting her chin, racking her brains for a solution. Just then, something furry rubbed against her leg.
"Stop fooling around."
Xia Qianqian thought the little dumpling wanted to play with her, but she was currently preoccupied with her worries and had no time to play with it. She reached out to push the little guy aside.
But as soon as her hand touched that furry body, Xia Qianqian sensed that something was wrong.
The little dumpling's soft, cotton-candy-like fur has now turned into fur as coarse and stiff as steel needles.
She looked down and saw that it was no longer a little dumpling, but had turned into a majestic wolf king.
Xia Qianqian shrank back in fright, her heart pounding. Would the little dumpling eat her?
Seeing that Xia Qianqian had finally focused all her attention on him, the wolf king raised its neck and let out a powerful howl. The howl echoed through Peach Blossom Spring, carrying a wild and majestic sound. Xia Qianqian froze on the spot, not daring to move.
She was filled with regret. If she had known it would turn out like this, she would have preferred to stay hidden in the toilet. At least then she wouldn't have ended up being devoured by wolves.
But the next second, the wolf king withdrew its terrifying aura and gently nudged Xia Qianqian's hand with its wet, black nose. Seeing that she remained frozen in place, it even nudged her hand upwards with the tip of its nose, as if it were being affectionate.
Xia Qianqian was a little stunned by this affectionate gesture. After hesitating for a moment, she carefully reached out her finger and gently stroked its fluffy head.
To her surprise, the wolf king comfortably closed his eyes and made a satisfied purring sound in his throat.
She never expected that the wolf king would turn into a big dog!
Seemingly noticing that she had slowed down the stroking of his head, the wolf king rubbed his head against her palm again and poked her arm with the tip of his tail in dissatisfaction.
Xia Qianqian was amused and laughed out loud. The last trace of unease in her heart vanished, replaced by a wonderful sense of closeness.
She continued stroking its head. Her fingertips gently combed along the texture of the wolf's fur; the coarse fur, though not as soft as before, had a unique texture.
Xia Qianqian's fingertips still lingered on the wolf king's coarse mane as she tentatively asked, "Do you...like me patting your head?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the wolf king's head shook slightly, as if it were nodding.
It really can understand! Her voice held a hint of excitement as she asked, "Then do you like living in a paradise?"
This time, the wolf king shook its head even more, and its nose even brushed against her wrist.
Looking at its docile appearance, Xia Qianqian suddenly had a thought—if that's the case...then the bad guy who was following her earlier...
Her breathing quickened suddenly, her fingertips trembling with excitement. She knelt down, cupped the wolf king's furry face in her hands, and pleaded, "Some bad guys were bullying me, that's why I hid here. He's probably still waiting outside. Can you help me?"
Before he could finish speaking, the wolf king suddenly opened his eyes, which had been squinting!
Those amber-colored beastly eyes instantly turned icy, and all traces of its docile nature vanished. A low gurgling sound came from its throat, like muffled thunder rolling in its chest.
The next second, it suddenly raised its head, its mouth splitting open to reveal two rows of gleaming white fangs, the cold light making Xia Qianqian's eyelids twitch. It shoved its front paws into the ground, carving several deep scratches into the hard soil, its growl growing deeper and deeper, filled with a ferocity that seemed ready to tear its prey apart.
