Chapter 13 Sowing Discord

Chapter 13 Sowing Discord

"Auntie, shall we go home?" Er Ya asked, looking up.

Xia Qianqian glanced at the bags she was carrying, nodded, and said, "Okay, let's go back. We'll come out and have more fun next time when we have more time."

Really?

Er Ya's eyes lit up immediately: "Auntie, are you upset that I made you spend so much money today?"

"Haha." Xia Qianqian smiled, reached out and patted Er Ya's little head, and said gently, "The meat I bought today is for everyone to eat. I haven't bought anything for you two sisters separately yet, so how can you say that I spent a lot of money?"

Er Ya's eyes darted around, her little face showing a hint of longing: "Auntie, could you buy me some colorful hair ties?"

Xia Qianqian knew that little girls all loved beauty, so she smiled and said, "When we get home, Auntie will give you something even better than colorful rubber bands!"

Er Ya was somewhat skeptical when she heard this.

She tilted her head and thought for a moment: How could there possibly be anything better than colorful rubber bands? Auntie has spent a lot of money, maybe she saw that the expenses were too high, so she doesn't want to spend any more money.

But that's alright. Once she and her sister pick some wild berries and take them to town, maybe someone will buy them. Then she can save up enough money to buy colorful rubber bands!

As Er Ya pondered this, she led Xia Qianqian back.

Xia Qianqian looked at the little girl struggling to hold such a large piece of pig's blood and couldn't help but smile.

Er Ya is such a good girl. She clearly loves to look pretty, but she specially got pig's blood for herself so as not to get her clothes dirty.

If she remembered correctly, she had packed several beaded hairpins with her when she left the Xia family. Since Er Ya liked these little trinkets so much, she might as well give the hairpins to the two sisters.

While they waited for the oxcart at the meeting point, Daya was picking vegetables in the field with a small basket.

At this moment, Liu Xiao'e walked over with a handful of pumpkin seeds in her hand.

"Da Ya, Grandma will give you some pumpkin seeds," Liu Xiao'e said with a smile when she saw that Lu Zheng was not there.

Daya shook her head and replied softly, "Grandma, I'm working right now, I'm not eating."

Seeing that Daya refused to eat, Liu Xiao'e didn't force her, and stood next to Daya cracking melon seeds.

"Da Ya, Grandma treats you well, doesn't she?"

Hearing her say that, Daya looked up at her with some confusion.

Seeing Daya's bewildered expression, Liu Xiao'e thought to herself: "She's still just a little girl, she doesn't understand anything. If I just provoke her a bit, I'm sure she'll make a huge scene when she gets back."

“Da Ya, your dad found you a stepmother. That woman doesn’t look like a good person at all. She’ll definitely beat you behind your dad’s back.”

"And after she gives birth to her younger brother, you two sisters will become servants, having to wipe his poop and wash his diapers every day. Tsk tsk tsk, how pitiful!"

“Da Ya, your Aunt Zhao Di is the one who truly cares for you. If she had married your father, she would definitely have treated you like her own daughters.”

Liu Xiao'e rambled on and on, thinking that Daya would become jealous of Xia Qianqian, but who knew that Daya would lower her head and pick vegetables again after listening to only a few words.

"Hey! Grandma's talking to you." Liu Xiao'e threw the sunflower seed shells on the ground and raised her voice.

This child looks like a clever one, but now he acts like a fool.

Did you hear what Grandma said?

Daya nodded and said calmly, "I heard you."

"Then don't you want to get rid of this woman?" Seeing that Daya still hadn't said what she wanted to hear, Liu Xiao'e became a little anxious.

Daya glanced at her and said softly, "I'll listen to my dad."

"How could you listen to your father? Don't you know that with a stepmother comes a stepfather? If you don't find a solution now, you'll suffer later," Liu Xiao'e said anxiously.

"I'll listen to my dad."

“You’re all grown up now, how can you listen to your father about everything? Even if not for yourself, you should think about your sister. That vixen took your sister away today, she might even be looking for a buyer for her.”

The eldest daughter didn't even look up, and replied indifferently, "Grandma, I'll listen to my dad."

No matter what Liu Xiao'e said, Daya would either smile politely or reply with "I'll listen to my dad," which eventually made Liu Xiao'e so angry that she almost had a heart attack.

She stopped eating the sunflower seeds, glared at Daya, and said fiercely, "Don't cry if you regret it later!"

After saying that, he swayed and went home, completely unaware of the mockery in Da Ya's eyes.

[It's such a pity we didn't get to see the female lead. Da Ya is so smart! No matter how Liu Xiao'e tries to stir things up, she always manages to shut her down with a single sentence.]

[Haha, this made me laugh so hard I almost squealed! I hope the female lead can defy fate this time and not let these two kids suffer such a tragic end.]

Sitting on the oxcart, Xia Qianqian felt bored, so she started watching the live comments.

The comments section didn't disappoint her; they quickly started gossiping about Liu Xiao'e. Seeing how clever Daya was, Xia Qianqian's eyes were full of smiles.

However, when she saw the last sentence, her smile instantly froze on her face.

Could the fates of these two children really be so tragic?

She continued reading the comments section and felt incredibly indignant after reading everyone's conversations.

If she hadn't chosen to go to the countryside and had stayed with the Xia family instead, she would have been bullied by Xia Wenwen and abused by Qin Yan. When the movement came, the Xia family didn't hesitate to throw her out as a shield, ultimately leading to her being beaten to death.

The Xia family, on the other hand, took their money and fled abroad, enjoying a carefree life.

And then there's Lu Zheng, who too was plotted against and ultimately died in the mine. The two children, fatherless, could only starve to death when disaster struck.

Xia Qianqian looked at Er Ya, who was still completely unaware, holding the pig's blood, and felt a pang of pity in her heart.

She touched Er Ya's little face and secretly vowed: Auntie will definitely change everyone's fate!

The oxcart swayed and rattled back to Willow Tree Village. As soon as Xia Qianqian got off the cart, people eyed her belongings, and some even tried to steal them.

Er Ya tightly clutched the pig's blood in both hands, blocking Xia Qianqian's way, and started cursing at the people with her little mouth.

Just then, Lu Zheng strode over.

"I've come to take you home." His voice was deep and powerful.

As he spoke, he suddenly exerted force with his arm, knocking away the thieving hands that were reaching for Xia Qianqian.

Lu Zheng's imposing aura made those people slink away like mice seeing a cat.

When Xia Qianqian saw this, her fox-like eyes crinkled into beautiful crescent shapes with a smile.

She thought to herself, "If I'm going to marry, I should marry a man like this—so considerate and reliable."

She handed the things in her hands to Lu Zheng, and said to him with a hint of coquettishness, "You help us carry these. Er Ya and I are exhausted from the journey."
