When I opened it, it was a piece of floral fabric: "What's this?"
"It was issued by the regimental headquarters, saying it was a reward for military families." Fu Yucheng placed a newspaper on the table. "I finished my mission this afternoon, and they said I could have half a day off."
He slipped an apple into her hand. "I just bought it. It's sweet."
Yun Tangyin stuffed a piece of cotton into his hand: "I just got it. I'll make you a cotton-padded jacket so you can wear it when it gets cold."
She added water to the pot. "Shall we make noodles for dinner?"
“Okay,” Fu Yucheng added coal to the stove, “I’ll help you.”
Just then, there was a knock on the door outside the courtyard.
Fu Yucheng opened the door and saw Li Sao holding the child: "My husband brought back some sweet potatoes, you two can try them."
She glanced into the yard. "What are you making for dinner? It smells delicious."
"Make noodles," Yun Tangyin said, shoving an apple into her hand. "I just bought it for the kids."
She put some sweet potatoes into the pot. "Want some to eat together?"
"No, my dinner is almost ready." Aunt Li slipped a piece of candy into the child's hand. "Are you going to the market tomorrow? I want to buy some fabric."
"I'm not going," Yun Tangyin said with a smile. "I just bought it, and I don't need it yet."
Aunt Li left with the child in her arms.
Fu Yucheng added some noodles to the pot and then stuffed a sweet potato into her hand, saying, "It's freshly cooked and sweet."
Yun Tangyin took a bite of sweet potato and smiled, "It's so sweet. It's better this way, peaceful and safe."
Fu Yucheng leaned closer to her: "It will be like this from now on, peaceful and safe."
Moonlight streamed through the window, bathing the two of them in warmth and tranquility.
