Song Yushuang touched the jade pendant around her neck, her eyes welling up with tears: "This child has the same temper as your father."
While saying this, her fingers repeatedly caressed the petals of the magnolia flower. "But this jade is really beautiful, much more presentable than the silver hairpin your father gave me back then."
Fu Yucheng smiled and straightened her collar: "Mom likes it, so wear it often, even when you sleep."
Yun Tangyin poked his back from the side: "Who sleeps with jade on? Be careful not to hurt yourself."
She turned to Song Yushuang and said, "I'll make you a velvet box tomorrow so you can store it away when you're not wearing it, so you don't get bumped or scratched."
“Yinyin is so thoughtful.” Song Yushuang smiled as she held her hand. “Consider this jade pendant a gift from you for the arrival of my grandson. I’ll keep it for my future big, fat grandson.”
Yun Tangyin's face flushed red, and she grabbed Fu Yucheng and pulled him outside, saying, "Mom is making fun of people again. Let's go home quickly."
After leaving the supply and marketing cooperative, Fu Yucheng looked down at her bright red ears and said, "Mom is right. She should give me a big, healthy son soon."
"Who wants to have a child for you?" Yun Tangyin shook off his hand, but he grabbed it back. "Besides, raising a child costs a lot of money."
"Don't worry." He pulled a cloth bag from his pocket, inside which were neatly folded banknotes. "I have some savings of my own, enough to support three children."
Yun Tangyin opened it and saw that there were still quite a few national food coupons: "When did you accumulate so many?"
"I was planning to buy you a gold bracelet with the bonuses I earned from missions," he joked. "But I bought Mom a jade bracelet first, so we'll have to wait for the gold bracelet."
"Who wants the gold bracelet?" Yun Tangyin stuffed the money back into his pocket. "Keep it to buy milk powder for the baby."
She covered her mouth as soon as she spoke, her cheeks burning hot.
Fu Yucheng chuckled softly, bent down and picked her up horizontally: "You said it, so you have to keep your word."
"Put me down!" Yun Tangyin punched his shoulder. "What kind of behavior is this in public?"
"What's there to be afraid of?" He strode home. "It's only natural for me to hug my wife."
As we passed the vegetable market, an elderly man named Wang, who was selling vegetables, called out with a smile, "Are you strolling around with your wife?"
Fu Yucheng replied loudly, "My wife is tired, so I need to take good care of her."
Yun Tangyin buried her face in his chest, listening to the laughter around her, but her heart was filled with sweetness.
When they arrived home, Jiang Jianhua was sitting in the yard sewing shoe soles. Seeing them return, he quickly stood up and asked, "Did you go to buy jade?"
"Yes, Mom likes it very much." Yun Tangyin had just sat down when Jiang Zhicheng came in carrying a paper package containing two feet of red silk cloth.
"Sister, here you go." Jiang Zhicheng stuffed the cloth into Jiang Jianhua's hand, his face as red as Guan Yu's. "I'm sorry for what happened the other day."
Jiang Jianhua's eyes reddened, and he clutched the red silk cloth, unable to speak.
Yun Tangyin quickly smoothed things over: "This fabric is so bright and beautiful, it would definitely look good on Second Sister-in-law."
Just then, Yu Xia rushed in, shouting, "Yinyin, your osmanthus cake has arrived! The postman just delivered it!"
Yun Tangyin quickly went out to greet them, took the heavy package, and opened it to find two catties of osmanthus cake and a pair of hand-embroidered baby tiger-head shoes. The stitches were fine, the tiger's eyes were wide open, and they were extremely cute.
"This is..." Fu Yucheng leaned closer to look, his eyes brightening, "They've arrived too?"
Yun Tangyin stuffed the tiger-head shoes into her bag: "Did you buy these?"
"I think it's pretty good." Song Yushuang took the tiger-head shoes and examined them. "We'll need them sooner or later."
"Mom!" Yun Tangyin stomped her foot, making everyone laugh.
At dinner, Fu Yucheng shared the osmanthus cake with everyone, but he only ate a small piece himself.
Yun Tangyin asked, puzzled, "You don't like it?"
"I'll leave this for you as a snack." He put a piece of pork rib into her bowl. "Eat more, so you can give me a big, healthy son."
"Don't talk nonsense again!" Yun Tangyin's face turned red again, but she still tried to bring the osmanthus cake to his mouth.
At night, Yun Tangyin sat under the lamp embroidering a cheongsam, while Fu Yucheng leaned over her, watching, his fingers gently tracing her lower abdomen: "Could there already be a little life here?"
"It won't be that fast." Yun Tangyin slapped his hand away. "If you keep making a fuss, I won't embroider anymore."
"No, please." He quickly brought her a cup of hot water. "I'll massage your back, you can continue embroidering slowly."
His strength was just right, making Yun Tangyin feel comfortable all over.
Looking at the shadows of the two of them embracing on the window paper, she suddenly felt that these days were truly wonderful.
There were arguments, there were laughter, there was the concern of her family, and there was the man beside her who doted on her.
"Fu Yucheng," she called softly.
"Um?"
"Let's go fishing in the Songhua River after the baby is born."
"Okay." He lowered his head and kissed the top of her head. "Take the child with you, so he can see the places his parents have been."
Moonlight streamed through the window and fell on their clasped hands, making the silver rings gleam gently in the light.
Yun Tangyin buried her face in his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat, and couldn't help but smile.
The days ahead are long, and with him by my side, whether it's through thick and thin or in the ordinary, everything will surely be sweet.
Just like this osmanthus cake, it's sweet at first taste, fragrant upon closer inspection, and leaves a lingering aftertaste that's full of the flavors of home.
The next morning, just as Yun Tangyin finished embroidering the last plum blossom on the collar of her cheongsam, Fu Yucheng rushed in with his camera: "Quick, put it on so I can take a picture!"
"What's the rush?" she scolded playfully, but still obediently changed into her cheongsam.
Fu Yucheng, holding his camera, retreated to the doorway, then suddenly looked down at the camera and exclaimed, "Oh! I forgot my film!"
Yun Tangyin laughed so hard she couldn't stand up straight: "You're so impulsive, just like a child."
“He’s also the father of your child.” He leaned over and pinched her cheek. “We’ll go to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy film later, and I’ll buy you two strings of candied hawthorns while we’re at it.”
Just then, Jiang Jianhua came in carrying a basin of hot water: "Yinyin, try the jujube water I made for you, it's good for replenishing your qi and blood."
She caught a glimpse of the plum blossoms on her cheongsam and her eyes lit up. "These flowers embroidered with gold thread are so vibrant, much prettier than the ones embroidered with plain embroidery before."
Fu Yucheng returned with the film and suddenly slapped his thigh: "I've got it! We'll shoot it in the yard and have Mom bring out that orchid as a backdrop."
When Song Yushuang heard that they were going to take pictures, she quickly placed the orchids on the windowsill and then found her dark blue jacket to change into: "Yinyin, stand in the middle. Acheng, move to the side a bit. Don't keep crowding your wife."
Fu Yucheng leaned closer to Yun Tangyin, saying, "It's warmer when we're squeezed together."
Just as the camera clicked, Yun Tangyin burst out laughing as Fu Yucheng tickled her. Stray hairs fell down from her temples, brushing against her silver bracelet and jingling.
"This one will definitely look good." Fu Yucheng flipped through his camera, then suddenly called out towards the door, "Sister-in-law, brother, come and take a picture together!"
Fu Yuanzheng waved his hand: "We won't join..."
Before he could finish speaking, Yu Xia pulled him over: "Just take one picture, to remember it by."
Jiang Jianhua arrived at some point, holding up a candied melon he had just bought: "Count me in! I want to stand next to Yinyin."
A group of people crowded in the courtyard, and Fu Yucheng, holding up his camera, shouted, "Then everyone, smile!"
