Chapter Forty-Four: The Wedding, A Battle of Wits

The wedding went smoothly.

As a bride, Yun Tangyin wore a new dress made of new fabric and specially tailored to her body.

The long red dress and the red flower in her hair made her already delicate face look even more pretty and radiant.

To be honest, Yun Tangyin was already outstanding in appearance, and as a bride, she was of paramount importance.

Yun Tangyin even bought a set of cosmetics to give herself a flawless bridal makeup.

For people of this era, their understanding of cosmetics was nothing more than white foundation, blush to brighten their cheeks, and a lipstick to make their lips red.

Has anyone ever seen Yun Tangyin with makeup like this?

It looks clear and natural, like you're wearing makeup, but upon closer inspection, it doesn't seem like you've applied any white foundation...

Especially when standing next to Jiang Jianhua, who always has his face painted white and wears bright red lipstick.

The contrast is stark.

Fu Yucheng was dressed in a military uniform with a wedding flower pinned to his chest, and his gaze towards Yun Tangyin was so tender it could melt your heart.

It has to be said that perhaps because she had been transmigrating into books for so long, Yun Tangyin felt that she had gotten used to it.

Fu Yucheng looked even more pleasing to the eye in his military uniform than before.

His ears turned red when he saw the ring on Yun Tangyin's finger.

Yun Tangyin didn't say anything, she just smiled and stood beside him to receive everyone's blessings.

Weddings in this era don't feature the "Wedding March," white wedding dresses, or lavish banquet halls, but they are filled with simple yet enthusiastic guests who applaud and cheer for them.

"Brother Fu! You've finally married your wife! Come, let's toast you and your wife!"

Zhou Desheng was laughing more happily than anyone else. He tilted his head back and drank the wine in one gulp. The woman next to him nudged his arm in dissatisfaction.

He wasn't upset at all; instead, he pulled her aside and introduced her to Yun Tangyin: "Sister-in-law, this is my wife, Nana. I'm introducing her to you now."

Shi Na wore a simple yet clean floral shirt, her hair tied in a thick ponytail, and smiled warmly: "Sister-in-law, I've always heard you're beautiful, and now that I see you, you really are like a fairy. I... I'm not good with words, so let me toast you!"

After saying that, Shi Na also picked up her wine glass and drank it all in one gulp with great gusto.

Yun Tangyin smiled and returned the toast, then followed Fu Yucheng to each table to offer a toast.

Aside from Fu's relatives, most of the people who came were Fu Yucheng's subordinates and comrades-in-arms.

To be honest, there weren't many relatives of the Fu family; the table wasn't even full.

Song Yushuang said that it was because the war was too fierce back then that Fu Yucheng was the only male heir of the Fu family. The others were either dead or crippled, and those who could come had already come today.

Yun Tangyin looked around and found that most of the relatives present were elderly women.

Some, like Song Yushuang, possess an elegant temperament, while others are radiant and capable, but they all appear very energetic.

Occasionally, one or two elderly people in wheelchairs would be seen drinking among the crowd.

Yun Tangyin felt a pang of unease as she watched.

They... are all soldiers who defend their country.

Fu Yucheng noticed Yun Tangyin's emotional change, put his arm around her shoulder, and stepped forward to offer her a toast while also recognizing her.

Out of respect for the soldiers, Yun Tangyin behaved very obediently: "You are all seniors who protect our country. I admire you from the bottom of my heart. Today, both in terms of sentiment and reason, I will drink this cup of wine first as a sign of respect."

Such a well-behaved young bride is still very likable in the eyes of the elders.

"You two are so good-looking, Ah Cheng! You two are a match made in heaven!"

"Yes, yes, I just wonder when your mom will be able to hold her grandson? That would be even better!"

"Ideally, it would be a boy and a girl, making a good family, so your father would be happy in the afterlife..."

This is the topic of pressuring people to have children that Yun Tangyin hates to hear the most.

But considering the identities of these people, Yun Tangyin maintained her smile.

Fu Yucheng put his arm around Yun Tangyin's shoulder and politely declined, saying, "Just let things take their course."

Yun Tangyin looked up at Fu Yucheng, but Fu Yucheng only curled the corners of his lips and didn't say anything more.

The atmosphere was just right.

It wasn't until Fu Yucheng's two unrelated brothers came over to offer a toast that the conversation continued.

Fu Yuan, dressed in work clothes and holding a wine glass, said with a serious expression, "Third brother, may you have a long and happy marriage."

He said it in one very simple sentence and then downed the drink in one gulp.

That's it.

Yun Tangyin glanced at Fu Yuanzheng, who seemed unwilling to say much, but his wife was currently frantically trying to spread her wings and win favors from everyone.

Seeing Yun Tangyin looking away, Fu Yuanshan took the initiative to clink his wine glass with hers: "Sister-in-law, we're family now. I wasn't joking about what I said last time. If you need anything, just come to me."

He has a pair of captivating, alluring eyes, and today he seemed to have dressed up specially, wearing a white shirt underneath a dark green Liberation uniform.

The buttons weren't all fastened; the top two were undone, revealing a patch of collarbone.

Fu Yucheng frowned, unsure whether he was displeased because Fu Yuanshan had taken the initiative to clink glasses with Yun Tangyin, or because of Fu Yuanshan's attire. He said, "Second Brother."

Fu Yuanshan glanced at Fu Yucheng and chuckled as he clinked his glass against Fu Yucheng's: "What era are we living in? Women can hold up half the sky. Do you still think of Yinyin as an old-fashioned woman who stays at home and doesn't allow men to see her?"

His words were laced with sarcasm, ostensibly mocking Fu Yucheng for being stingy, but actually implying that Fu Yucheng was pedantic and inflexible.

Fu Yucheng's brows furrowed even deeper. He wanted to say something, but was interrupted by Yun Tangyin's cheerful smile.

"Second brother is absolutely right. Women hold up half the sky. You'll see what happens when the Fu family is in my hands."

Yun Tangyin smiled as she drank the wine in her glass, her gaze fixed intently on Fu Yuanshan.

Perhaps not expecting Yun Tangyin to say that, Fu Yuanshan was also taken aback.

Apart from meeting Yun Tangyin once that evening at dinner, all of Fu Yuanshan's knowledge of Yun Tangyin came from Jiang Jianhua.

However, Jiang Jianhua's attention was focused on his banter with Yu Xia, and Yun Tangyin was mostly too lazy to speak. In addition, Yun Tangyin did not show any strong aggression on the day of the meal...

Therefore, Fu Yuanshan always thought that Yun Tangyin was a seemingly tough but actually weak person who, even if she had some tricks up her sleeve, wouldn't be very assertive.

But when Yun Tangyin bluntly said, "Just you wait and see," Fu Yuanshan actually felt a sense of "Huh? This isn't right, is it?"

But he quickly composed himself, smiled and looked down at Yun Tangyin: "It's good that you have this thought, sister-in-law."

Fu Yuanshan stared at Yun Tangyin and drank the glass of wine in his hand.

For some reason, looking into Yun Tangyin's eyes, he suddenly felt...

This is not good.
