"Grandpa, Uncle Zhong, you two get in the car first, give me the suitcases."
Finally, it was He Ping's voice that broke the death stare between Third Uncle and Uncle Zhong.
When Uncle San and Uncle Zhong turned around, they saw He Ping walking down from the second floor with panda eyes.
I saw him yawn several times in a row.
Uncle San asked in confusion, "He Ping, didn't you sleep last night?"
He Ping scoffed, "There was a mouse in the room. It kept squeaking all night, which made me so angry that I barely slept. I was just catching mice."
Uncle San was exhausted after a long day yesterday and slept soundly last night, so he didn't hear anything.
"Did they catch them?" he asked casually.
"Yes, I caught two."
When He Ping said this, there was a hint of pride on his face.
"The rats in the guesthouse are really fat; each one must weigh half a pound!"
At this moment, Huo Tingzhou coughed lightly, "We have one in our room too. Your sister-in-law was so scared that she didn't sleep much all night."
Jiang Si didn't care why he was lying through his teeth.
The way his third uncle glared at him just now was so obvious that it was hard to miss.
But she couldn't really explain it.
Fortunately, He Ping's actions backfired, clearing Huo Tingzhou of suspicion.
As they were talking, the luggage had already been loaded into the car by the group.
Given He Ping's condition, Huo Tingzhou didn't dare let him drive.
After helping his third uncle and the others into the car, he went straight to the driver's seat.
He Ping was replaced when they were almost at the unit.
The group set off early in the morning, arriving at the gate of the residential compound before 10 a.m.
My third uncle had been traveling for several hours, and his buttocks were practically turned into garlic cloves from all the jostling.
Because the school had already started its winter break, the residential compound was full of children, so He Ping drove very slowly.
Seeing this, Jiang Si rolled down the car window halfway.
"Third Uncle, Uncle Zhong, that's the military service center up ahead."
"We usually buy our things there. The one next to it is the military hospital."
"Turn left at the intersection ahead and you'll find the nursery, primary school, middle school, auditorium, stadium, and cinema on your right."
Although she had already guessed that her third uncle would most likely be living outside, Jiang Si still made sure to give them a thorough introduction to every building they passed.
Third Uncle listened and took notes, saying, "Very good, very good."
He had worried that the girl would be controlled here, but now it seems he was overthinking it.
The residential compound has all the necessary facilities, making life quite convenient.
The car soon stopped at the entrance of the courtyard.
Jiang Si paused for a moment when she got out of the car.
When the wall was first built, the defense team initially planned to add a layer of broken glass shards on top.
But Jiang Si thought about it and didn't agree. Instead, she asked Huo Tingzhou to help her dig up some wild cacti and plant them.
I never expected that the cactus would bloom after I was gone for several months.
The colors come in pink, yellow, red, and white; they're quite pretty.
While he was still in a daze, Huo Tingzhou had already opened the courtyard gate.
When Jiang Si entered, she even doubted whether she had entered the wrong garden.
She remembered that when she left, the seedlings in the garden didn't even have many leaves. How come they're all flowering and bearing fruit now?
Even the cucumbers and green beans have been placed on bamboo trellises.
"He Ping, thank you."
Jiang Si originally thought that He Ping would at most come over to help weed and water the plants.
I never expected him to take such good care of the vegetable garden.
He Ping quickly waved his hand, "Sister-in-law, you're being too polite."
After saying that, he sighed deeply again: "Commander, you're finally back. You have no idea how many vegetables in your garden have rotted in the past two months."
"The cucumbers and green beans are planted one after another, and they get too old if they are not picked in a few days. There are also water spinach plants, which have grown to half a meter tall."
"Thanks to Sister Hu."
"Thanks to me, what?" Hu Meili happened to hear this when she came over.
Jiang Si looked up and her gaze fell on Hu Meili, or more precisely, on her slightly protruding belly.
Realizing what was happening, she immediately went to greet her, "Sister-in-law, please come in."
Hu Meili patted her hand, "I've missed you quite a bit since I last saw you a few months ago."
Jiang Si smiled and nodded, "Me too."
After saying that, he took Hu Meili's hand and introduced her to him.
Hu Meili is a very easygoing person. Given her great-uncle's age, it wouldn't be appropriate to call him "uncle," so she followed Jiang Si's lead and called him that too.
"Third Uncle, my name is Hu Meili, and I live next door to Commander Huo's house."
Third Uncle said with a smile, "Hello, hello, I've heard my Sisi mention you before, and I think there's someone named Mingjuan, right?"
"Yes, yes, Mingjuan and her husband will be here soon too."
Third Uncle nodded, his face full of gratitude, and said, "When Sisi first came to the family compound, she was unfamiliar with the place and the people. Thanks to you all for taking care of her."
"Oh, Grandpa, please don't say that. You're making me feel embarrassed."
After saying that, Hu Meili touched her face and said to Jiang Si, "Take a look, isn't my face red?"
It's become famous.
But it might be from being in the sun.
Jiang Si smiled and led them into the house, saying, "It's hot outside, come in and talk."
The house was spotless; it was clear that someone had just cleaned it.
Huo Tingzhou didn't disturb their conversation and quietly carried the luggage back to their room.
"You can all sit down."
Jiang Si originally wanted to pour some water for everyone, but when she entered the kitchen, she realized that all the stoves in the house were out.
Turning around, Jiang Si saw a row of things laid out on the kitchen table.
