Chapter 1 The Wind Blows Down
A fierce wind was blowing at the airport.
"Sister Xu, the weather is not good. It's probably going to be difficult for the plane to land."
A petite girl in a black down jacket followed closely behind a tall, slender woman in a trench coat, both holding coffee.
When the passing maintenance crew saw the two, the flight attendants greeted them with smiles, "Sister Xu, Lu Xiaomeng, going to work?"
"Hi! How was the landing today?" The woman called Sister Xu stopped in her tracks. She wore no makeup, and there was a faint bluish tint under her eyes, but it didn't stop her from standing out among a group of beautiful flight attendants.
"This weather is making landing quite difficult; it's so turbulent. Several planes have had to go around. You air traffic controllers must be having a tough time," the flight attendant replied with a smile.
"On windy days, passengers on flights should have more to complain about, but you all have a tough time too."
After exchanging a few brief pleasantries, the group bid each other farewell and headed to their respective battlefields.
Although they are both air traffic controllers, they belong to different departments.
Lu Xiaomeng is the control tower operator, and Xu Songning is the approach operator.
After saying goodbye, Xu Songning went into the radar's small dark room to hand over his shift.
She put on her headphones, observed the radar, her slender eyebrows furrowed, not daring to relax for a moment.
Such windy weather is really bad for aircraft landing. Large aircraft can land steadily due to their own weight, but narrow-body passenger planes are at a certain risk.
The captain assessed which planes could land and arranged for them to land as many as possible. Several planes landed in a row, some successfully on the first try, and others had to go around and land again. Maintaining a perfect landing attitude in strong winds is a difficult task, not to mention the threat of wind shear.
A deep male voice came through Xu Songning's headphones, serious and steady.
"Good afternoon, Shanghai Approach. Air China 8552, altitude 4800, at your command."
"Air China 8552, approach radar detected, descend to 3000, correct sea pressure to 1009."
"Down to 3000, adjust sea pressure to 1009, Air China 8552."
"Wow! It's Sister Xu's shift today, and she's doing a great job directing things." Fu Fei's eyes lit up.
"Who?" Xiang Yun didn't fly to Shanghai often, but he knew there was a famous female approach pilot there who was very capable and efficient, saving the captain and air traffic controllers from having to argue. Other pilots would try their luck when flying to Shanghai.
It seems they've struck gold today.
"This is the second time I've encountered Sister Xu in command. I've heard from other pilots that Sister Xu is very beautiful, and her voice is so sweet, right, Brother Yun?"
Xiang Yun made no comment, and Fu Fei, used to his silence, changed the subject.
"The weather's bad today, Yun-ge. This strong wind is making everyone uneasy," the co-pilot sighed. "Our small Boeing 737 is having a hard time keeping up."
"Hmm." Xiang Yun responded, "Eight should be opposed and one should be opposed. If it should be allowed to resume flights, then it should be allowed to resume flights."
"Oh my god, please don't say those words all the time, they scare me." Fu Fei clutched his heart and clasped his hands together in prayer.
"Please don't let it go back to flight! Please land safely! What will happen to my fuel efficiency bonus if it goes back to flight?!"
"..."
"Shanghai Approach, China Eastern Airlines 5688, altitude 4200."
"China Eastern Airlines 5688, radar detected, maintain altitude 3300."
"Maintain altitude of 3300, China Eastern Airlines 5688." China Eastern recognized Xu Songning's voice and couldn't help but joke, "Sister Xu, the channel is quite quiet today, there are relatively few flights at this time."
"All aircraft that could be diverted have been diverted. China Eastern Airlines 5688, gale force 6, wind speed 10 m/s, be aware of wind shear," Xu Songning replied.
She wasn't worried about China Eastern Airlines; the Airbus A330 is a big aircraft, and this little bit of wind wouldn't be a problem for it.
That Boeing 737 at the front of the line... is a bit risky.
"Don't worry, Sister Xu! My skills are top-notch."
Compared to the lively China Eastern Airlines flight 5688, Air China flight 8552 was quite quiet.
"Air China flight 8552, are you going to land? Several 737s landed with some issues today."
"Give it a try, Air China 8552."
"Air China 8552, scheduled to land on runway 36R, establish airway report."
"Air route established, expected landing 36R, Air China 8552," Xiang Yun replied.
"Air China 8552, beware of wind shear, radar service terminated, contact tower 118.1, goodbye."
"Tower 118.1, goodbye."
The captain's voice was low and slightly drawn out the last sentence, which made Xu Songning's ears burn for once.
Strange, she's heard at least a thousand or ten thousand captains' voices, yet there's still one that she finds pleasant to listen to.
Just like the voice of a righteous protagonist in a TV series, the youthful air has faded, replaced by a mature, steady, and reassuring voice.
She was no longer worried about the landing of the 737; she assumed there wouldn't be any problems.
Sure enough, the 737 not only landed smoothly, but its landing was also hailed as a textbook example, and a video of it was shared in a group chat.
"Sister Xu, it's a pity you didn't see it. The 737 was really dangerous! The wind was so strong and the fuselage was unstable, but it still managed to land safely."
Lu Xiaomeng took out her phone and showed it to Xu Songning, "Look, there's still a video in the control tower group chat."
Xu Songning wasn't interested at first, but remembering the male voice she heard earlier, she still leaned over to take a look.
The chubby plane swayed from side to side in the wind, but maintained a good posture. The rear wheels touched down perfectly, and the front wheels followed immediately, allowing it to move forward smoothly.
"Who flew it?" Xu Songning asked.
Lu Xiaomeng looked up at her as if she had seen a ghost. "My God! Sister Xu actually took the initiative to ask who this captain is. I thought our Sister Xu had become a nun after breaking up with her boyfriend, and was going to shave her head and become a nun."
"Stop being so poor, I'm just curious." Xu Songning couldn't find a good reason to explain his sudden interest in someone.
"And who said I don't care about worldly affairs anymore? Will I die without a man? If the last one doesn't work out, the next one will be better."
"Sister Xu is right! Several captains have asked for your contact information recently. Should we give it to them?" Lu Xiaomeng shook her phone.
She's very sociable and has connections with many flight attendants, captains, and ground staff. She's incredibly popular, so naturally, many people ask her to help them make connections.
"No." Xu Songning pulled his trench coat tighter. "If I find out you've given my WeChat to just anyone, you can expect to see a red exclamation mark."
"Okay, okay, I wouldn't dare. I just want to be Sister Xu's first wife." Lu Xiaomeng chased after her with a grin.
The two chatted and laughed all the way, heading out to buy a cup of coffee to perk themselves up.
A tall man with broad shoulders and a narrow waist stood in front of the coffee shop they frequented, his flight case at his feet and a hat in his hand, attracting the attention of many people.
Lu Xiaomeng excitedly shook Xu Songning's arm, "Look, Sister Xu! This captain is the one who landed the 737 smoothly! I think his name is Xiang Yun!"
Xu Songning followed her gaze, froze for a moment, broke out in a cold sweat, and pulled Lu Xiaomeng away in the opposite direction.
Can it really be such a coincidence? Someone I slept with just two weeks ago, and now I run into them at work?!
As Xiang Yun turned around with his coffee, he only saw a beautiful black figure walking away in the crowd. She was wearing flat shoes, her hair was casually tied up behind her head, revealing a section of her fair and slender neck.
