Chapter 188 One Wave Subsides, Another Rises
"Hello." Xu Songning greeted her with a fake smile. This journey had been full of one problem after another.
Xiang Yun stood with his hands in his pockets, still looking rather unfriendly.
I'd heard that Lin Yao was causing trouble at the law firm, arriving late and leaving early, which made many people unhappy. But since everyone knew she got in through connections, no one dared to say anything.
Lin Yao was talked about behind her back, but she didn't care and continued to do as she pleased. After being warned by Ms. Cui, she went to apologize and reluctantly agreed to come to work on time.
"What brings you to the law firm?" Lin Yao asked deliberately, her ears perked up, afraid of missing out on something good.
“It’s nothing, my aunt asked me to come and visit her law firm,” Xu Songning said.
Before Lin Yao could continue speaking, Xiang Yun grabbed her hand and led her towards the other end of the corridor. "Let's go, my mom is waiting."
Xu Songning smiled at Lin Yao, indicating that he was about to leave.
Lin Yao responded with a sweet smile, but as soon as they turned around, her face fell and she clenched her teeth.
How dare she! Why does she deserve Aunt Cui's favor?
"What's wrong? Can't keep up the act anymore?" Cui Yuyue sneered, arms crossed. She had witnessed Lin Yao's change of expression firsthand and had long seen through this woman's true colors. If it weren't for her mother insisting on keeping Lin Yao on the sidelines because of their past friendship, she wouldn't want to share an office with Lin Yao.
"Little sister, what are you saying? Didn't Aunt Cui arrange clients for you? You should worry about your own affairs." Lin Yao walked away gracefully in her high heels.
As soon as she turned around, she saw the menacing Cao Lu standing behind her, which made her heart pound.
"Oh dear, Sister Cao, you scared me to death!" Lin Yao patted her chest, her doe-like eyes blinking, looking adorable.
Unfortunately, this is the workplace, not a place for romance, and no one will pay attention to her affectation.
"Lin Yao, didn't I tell you to print out all the evidence the client sent yesterday? Where's the evidence?! There's nothing next to the printer!" Lawyer Cao shouted in a frenzy.
Lin Yao brushed her hair aside and said softly, "I opened it and saw so much evidence. I was about to leave work yesterday, and I thought I wouldn't be able to finish it all, so I planned to do it today, but I forgot."
"It's precisely because there's so much evidence that I had you finish it yesterday! Who doesn't want to work overtime? You're always late and leave early, and you still think you're right? Cao Lu rushed straight to Lin Yao. Lin Yao caught a glimpse of the woman she feared most approaching out of the corner of her eye, hid behind Qian Lu, tugged at his clothes, and whispered, "Brother Qian, I'm scared."
"Don't be afraid, I'm here!" Qian Lu protected her, trying to calm things down. "Sister Cao, this isn't a big deal, can't you just let Yao Yao off the hook?"
These words put Cao Lu in a difficult position, as if she were the one who was right and wouldn't let it go.
"I'm in the wrong, yet I still argue. Why should I back down when I'm in the right?" Lawyer Cao pointed at the open door of the printing room, his gaze fixed on Lin Yao. "Tell me! Did you break the printer?"
"I didn't!" Lin Yao whispered, trying to explain. "It was broken when I went to the printing room yesterday. I thought it would be fine once the repairman came to print something."
Lawyer Cao sneered, "Fine, fine, so you're lying to a lawyer? Did you know there are security cameras in the printing room?"
"Surveillance footage?" Lin Yao was dumbfounded, but she wasn't one to be easily fooled. She nudged Qian Lu, "Brother Qian, is it true?"
There was indeed a surveillance camera installed in the printing room, and the veteran lawyers all knew about it, but the camera broke down a few days ago. Only Lawyer Cao knew about it; she was deliberately framing Lin Yao.
Even with eyewitnesses, Lin Yao still refused to admit it, insisting that she use her ultimate weapon.
Qian Lu quickly nodded, "Yes, Yao Yao, don't worry. There are surveillance cameras in the printing room. We can find out who broke it by checking the footage. I'll go with you to check the footage and clear your name! We'll get Sister Cao to apologize to you."
Lin Yao broke out in a cold sweat, never expecting that the printing room really had surveillance cameras installed.
She never goes into the printing room. Yesterday, she only offered to help Lawyer Cao print documents on a whim. Anyway, all she needs to do at the law firm is drink coffee. If she encounters any task, she just says she doesn't know how, and no one dares to ask her for help anymore.
