Chapter 189 Making False Accusations
"Sister Cao, you should be forgiving. You haven't even proven that Yao Yao broke it, and you're already blaming her. That's a bit too much." Qian Lu spread his arms to protect Lin Yao, looking righteous and awe-inspiring.
Seeing Lin Yao's guilty look, Lawyer Cao knew that she was the one who broke the printer, and deliberately provoked Lawyer Qian, "I was just talking about her, Lawyer Qian, why are you reacting so strongly? If it really is her fault, are you going to take the blame for her?"
"Don't make false accusations! Come on, let's go to the boss's office and check the surveillance footage!" Qian Lu grabbed Lin Yao's hand.
Lin Yao instinctively shook off his hand; the greasy old man's hand disgusted her.
"Brother Qian, Aunt Cui is busy. It's not a good idea to go see her now."
Damaging the printer is a small matter, but Xu Songning and Xiang Yun are both in the office. If they see me making a fool of myself, it will be really embarrassing!
"What? Scared? Afraid to take this to court?" Lawyer Cao pressed aggressively. Seeing that Lin Yao hesitated to act, he turned to leave. "Fine, if you won't go, I'll go myself! I'll post the evidence directly in the work group. Don't blame me for being ruthless!"
Lin Yao panicked. It was one thing for her to lie, but if her story was posted in the group chat and she was publicly tried, would she even be able to complete her internship at the law firm?
Seeing that Lawyer Cao had already left the office, she quickly followed after her. Only when they were out of sight of her colleagues did she timidly call out, "Sister Cao."
"What? I can't accept you calling me Sister Cao." Cao Lu didn't stop walking.
Lin Yao quickly caught up and grabbed Cao Lu's arm. "Sister Cao, I was wrong. Don't be angry. I'll help you type up the documents and make you another cup of coffee! No, ten cups!"
Cao Lu was about to ask who wanted her coffee, but then thought of teaching her a lesson, "Fine, buy everyone a cup of coffee, fix the printer, and I'll put your stuff on my desk in half an hour. Don't try to be clever again!"
"Okay, Sister Cao." Lin Yao agreed reluctantly. This scene was witnessed by Qian Lu, who had come out to help. He felt sorry for her but didn't dare to confront Sister Cao directly. He waited until Sister Cao entered the office before going over to comfort Lin Yao.
"Yaoyao, this isn't something you did, why are you admitting it?"
Lin Yao wiped away imaginary tears from the corners of her eyes. "I did go into the printing room yesterday, but I didn't print anything, Brother Qian. Do you believe me?"
"I believe you! A printer is such a simple thing, who would be so stupid as to break it?" Qian Lu put his arm around her shoulder with concern.
"..." Lin Yao suppressed her nausea and continued, "But Sister Cao's attitude is so tough. I went in, and the printer is broken, so I have no choice but to take responsibility. But I don't know how to fix a printer, what should I do, Brother Qian?"
Upon hearing that she couldn't fix it, Qian Lu immediately patted his chest and assured her, "Don't worry, I'll fix it!"
"Really? Brother Qian, you're so kind! Don't you think I'm stupid?"
"It's normal for a pampered princess like you who never lifts a finger to fix a printer, isn't it? Sister Cao is really something, isn't she deliberately making things difficult for you?" Brother Qian comforted her softly.
Lin Yao leaned back, avoiding Qian Lu's embrace. "Brother Qian, I still need to buy coffee for everyone, and Sister Cao asked me to type up the documents in half an hour. I'm afraid I won't have enough time."
Qian Lu couldn't resist groping her, "It's okay! I'll take care of it for you, don't worry!"
Lin Yao's scheme succeeded, and she revealed an innocent smile, patting his shoulder, "Brother, then I'll leave everything to you. I'm going to buy coffee now."
Qian Lu was so captivated by the word "brother" that he was completely overjoyed and rushed into the printing room to get to work.
Lin Yao went down to the first floor and sat in a corner of the lobby, slacking off. She ordered ten cups of coffee on the app and sat in the lobby waiting for them to be delivered.
As she was scrolling through her phone, she saw a handsome man walk out of the elevator, loosen his tie, and head towards the coffee shop next door with a dashing air.
Lin Yao put away her phone and followed.
"Hello, I'd like an Americano." Cheng Ou stood in the coffee shop, attracting a lot of attention.
Lin Yao stood behind him, pondering how to get to know him. Which of her usual tactics should she use?
Cheng Ou's phone rang. He glanced down at the caller ID: Uncle Jianming.
He answered the phone briskly, "Good afternoon, Uncle. I'm at Xinrui Law Firm, accompanying Tingting to see a lawyer."
Tingting? So you had a girlfriend?
Lin Yao, uninterested, turned to leave, but in Cheng Ou's few words, she heard the name "Song Ning".
What a coincidence! Is there really a second person named Song Ning?
She turned around, wanting to listen a little longer, but Cheng Ou's coffee was already ready. He walked past Lin Yao carrying the coffee, talking on the phone, without giving her a single glance.
Lin Yao stroked her chin thoughtfully. This was truly interesting.
The delivery guy called Lin Yao and carried ten cups of coffee to the law firm entrance. Lin Yao took them, turned around and walked into the office, smiling as she said, "Sisters and brothers, the coffee I ordered for you has arrived."
No one paid her any attention. Busy lawyer Qian finished printing and placed the thick stack of documents on lawyer Cao's desk.
"Yaoyao, you've really gone to a lot of trouble. Come and take it, don't waste their good intentions!"
Qian Lu took a cup, Cao Lu slowly walked over and took a cup, and when the others saw that Sister Cao had taken one, they all came over and took a cup as well, without anyone saying thank you to her.
Lin Yao maintained her smile, thinking to herself: Once my internship is over, none of you will be able to see me!
"I'm going to take a cup of coffee to Aunt Cui. I know her taste best." Lin Yao picked up a cup of coffee, saying she was going to deliver it to Aunt Cui, but actually she was going to eavesdrop on gossip and see what Xu Songning and Xiang Yun were up to today.
As she passed a meeting room with her coffee, she heard a loud noise coming from inside. She stopped and stood at the doorway, peering through the glass window to get a clear view of what was happening inside.
There was a man standing inside; he was the same person we had met downstairs.
"What are you saying?! Isn't the reason we hired a lawyer to get your help? My husband is still young, what does he know about evil forces? You don't understand my husband at all." My cousin's wife covered her slightly protruding belly and spoke passionately.
Cui Yuyue calmly pulled out a tissue and wiped her face. "Madam, please calm down. What I mean is, if you really want me to defend him, then please stop lying to me. You've already given two different versions of what happened, so what's the truth?"
"Are you implying my brother is a criminal?! Are you trying to defend him or send him to jail?" Liu Tingting was agitated, on par with her cousin-in-law, and unleashed a torrent of abuse on Cheng Ou. "Cheng Ou! Didn't you say this law firm was very professional? What do you mean by this?"
Lin Yao stood at the door, staring at the helpless man. It turned out his name was Cheng Ou.
A cold shout suddenly came from behind.
"Lin Yao, what are you doing here?"
