Chapter 190 Xu Songning's "Good Sister"

Chapter 190 Xu Songning's "Good Sister"

Lin Yao turned around abruptly and met the eyes of the serious Ms. Cui. She nervously gripped her coffee, "I... I wanted to bring you coffee, but I didn't expect to hear such a commotion in the meeting room, so I just glanced over."

"You may not understand, but don't do this again. If clients find out, they'll think our law firm doesn't care about client privacy at all," Ms. Cui said coldly.

“Okay, Aunt Cui.” Lin Yao obediently agreed and handed the coffee to Aunt Cui. Aunt Cui did not take the coffee and asked again, “Whose clients are inside? They’ve made such a commotion.”

"It's my sister's client. The client is very agitated. Maybe my sister said something wrong. I heard the client accusing her of trying to send someone in. It seems like it's going to be difficult to handle," Lin Yao said softly, clutching the coffee that Ms. Cui had refused.

Ms. Cui knocked on the door, and the heated argument inside finally stopped.

Cheng Ou couldn't stand the suffocating environment any longer. Hearing the knock on the door, he felt as if he heard the voice of God redeeming him. He quickly opened the door and saw a dignified face behind it. He had seen Cui Lu in a photograph. She looked exactly like the woman in front of him, a little younger than he had imagined, but even more imposing.

“Hello, Attorney Cui! I’m Cheng Ou. We’ve chatted via email before.” Cheng Ou extended her hand first.

Ms. Cui shook hands with him, then gestured with her chin towards the room, asking, "What's wrong?"

"this……"

Cheng Ou's words caught in his throat. He saw the two people behind Ms. Cui, whom he had just met downstairs.

Xiang Yun, Xu Songning.

Xu Songning pressed her right eyelid with her finger; her eyelid was twitching violently, and the atmosphere around her was slowly decreasing.

Lin Yao's gaze swept over the three of them, and when she saw Cheng Ou staring intently at Xu Songning, she seemed to understand something, and a smile appeared on her lips.

"What's wrong?" Ms. Cui stepped into the house, her demeanor imposing.

My cousin-in-law and Liu Tingting paused in their rapid-fire conversation when they saw this man, who was more imposing than the other lawyers, enter. They instinctively tried to grasp at this lifeline.

“This lawyer, you look very experienced. Could you take my husband’s case?” The cousin-in-law immediately stepped forward and tried to grab Ms. Cui’s hand, but Ms. Cui avoided her.

"What? Are you dissatisfied with our lawyer?" Ms. Cui asked as she sat down.

My cousin's wife, clutching her pregnant belly, said arrogantly, "This is just an intern lawyer! What kind of cases could she possibly know? Only a seasoned lawyer like you can save my husband!"

Ms. Cui had heard about the case and knew it wasn't difficult, so she entrusted it to Cui Yuyue with peace of mind. She didn't believe her daughter couldn't handle this. With a glance, she told Cui Yuyue to quickly explain, "The client is lying."

It is not uncommon for clients to lie in criminal cases. Many people do not even trust their lawyers and hide things from them in every possible way. It is not until they are in court and the two sides are facing off that the lawyer discovers many things that the client has been hiding from him. Even a miracle cannot save him.

“If you lie to your lawyer, then you don’t need to hire one. How about you go to court yourself?” Ms. Cui put her pen on the table.

The "click" sound startled my cousin-in-law, who had lost her sense of direction.

"Who are you? Who's in charge of this law firm? We're our clients, you know? How can you be so rude to your clients?" my cousin-in-law shouted, her face flushed.

You can't argue with someone who has no right to argue.

Cheng Ou felt like his face was being trampled on and rubbed in the ground, and he shouldn't have bothered with this!

"Yeah, your law firm has a terrible attitude. I'm going to post a video online and report you!" Liu Tingting said, reaching for her phone, but Cheng Ou quickly stopped her. "What are you doing?!"

“Expose them!” Liu Tingting said matter-of-factly.

Cheng Ou almost couldn't catch her breath. Since it involved a criminal case, her cousin's situation was basically a done deal. Even though he was a layman, he could tell that their story was full of loopholes and that her cousin wasn't telling the truth at all. He asked a lawyer to go in and meet with his client to see if there was any chance of a reduced sentence.

But these two people were completely unreasonable; they just wanted to get the person out of jail as soon as possible and release them without charge.

"Cheng Ou, right? You contacted me about this matter. I only agreed to take it because of my past relationship with your father. Since you can't reason with him, please leave. Our law firm cannot take this case." Ms. Cui got up and left.

While her cousin-in-law and Liu Tingting were still cursing behind her, Cui Yuyue breathed a sigh of relief, packed her things, and prepared to leave. Fortunately, her mother had spoken up, so she didn't have to suffer anymore. Heaven knows how much she wanted to complain when she heard the completely different oral accounts of the case twice.

One moment it was the other side that started it, with two people attacking her cousin; the next moment it was her cousin who started it, only slapping the other side once, but seven people ganged up on her cousin, and two of them sustained minor injuries. This sounds too unbelievable, doesn't it?

Who struck first is very important, as is whether it can be determined as legitimate self-defense or excessive self-defense. However, these two people clearly have conflicting accounts and only want to tell the facts they want to believe. Before even meeting with the client, they have already started to berate the lawyer.

All Cui Yuyue could say was, "Well done, family! Leaving Xinrui Law Firm, the road ahead is probably going to be tough. Even if some unlucky guy takes on this case, he'll likely be berated by the family when discussing sentencing. Communicating with family members who have absolutely no legal knowledge is truly difficult."

"Cheng Ou! You can't even handle this simple matter! I'll figure it out myself!" Liu Tingting vented her anger on Cheng Ou and helped her cousin-in-law leave.

Cheng Ou was furious. He had made a fool of himself in front of Xu Songning and her current boyfriend, and he was too ashamed to stay any longer. He grabbed Liu Tingting's silk shawl and chased after them, but the elevator had already gone down, so he could only wait for the next one.

In a secluded corner where no one was watching, Lin Yao secretly slipped to the elevator entrance.

"Hey, it's you?" Lin Yao exclaimed dramatically.

Cheng Ou, anxiously waiting for the elevator, turned to look at her. She was quite pretty, but he couldn't remember who she was.

"You're Cheng Ou, right?" Lin Yao handed him the coffee. "Have a cup of coffee. It's rush hour now, and there are a lot of people using the elevator. If they don't wait for you, you probably won't be able to catch up."

Cheng Ou was seething with anger. When he heard that they weren't waiting for him, he immediately sneered, "If you can't catch up, so be it."

"The coffee is freshly bought, with ice to cool me down," Lin Yao said with a smile.

Her harmless appearance lowered Cheng Ou's guard, but he still couldn't remember who she was. It seemed like she had run away from Xinrui Law Firm with him.

"You recognize me? But I don't quite remember you."

Lin Yao smiled at him and said, "Of course I know you. I'm Lin Yao, and I'm Song Ning's good friend."
