Chapter 213 Grounding
As Xu Songning came downstairs, the three people at the dining table all turned to look at her. She immediately felt a little embarrassed, as if everyone knew that she and Xiang Yun were sleeping in the room, even though they really were just sleeping!
Cui Yuyue broke the awkward silence by speaking first: "Sister-in-law, where's my brother? Is he back?"
"Xiang Yun came back this afternoon. I was afraid you would rush back and delay things, so I didn't tell you. He's still sleeping. He's been too tired these past few days, so I didn't wake him. Let him sleep a little longer." Xu Songning sat down at the dining table, where food that had been reheated was laid out.
"He should catch up on his sleep. Lao Xiang doesn't have class tomorrow, so I'll cook him something nice at home in the morning." Ms. Cui picked up her chopsticks, gesturing for everyone to eat.
"How about some nourishing food, like angelica, codonopsis, and old hen?" Xiang's father suggested.
Ms. Cui glared at him and said irritably, "He's not in postpartum confinement, why is he eating old hen? Think about your son's health."
“Oh dear, who says you have to be in postpartum confinement to eat this? I think Songning and her son both need to replenish their energy; they both work so hard.” Mr. Xiang pointed to Xu Songning’s dark circles under her eyes. “Look, she didn’t have dark circles before.”
Xu Songning touched her face. She hadn't worn makeup for the past few days and hadn't slept well at night. Was it really that obvious?
“They’re just concerned about your son! It’s alright, his dark circles will go away quickly, he’s still young. Songning, don’t listen to what he says, men just don’t know how to talk.” Ms. Cui rolled her eyes at Mr. Xiang.
Mr. Xiang smiled without saying a word and placed a piece of braised pork on her plate.
"Sister-in-law, don't worry, my brother is back, everyone can breathe a sigh of relief." Cui Yuyue sat down next to Xu Songning and comforted her.
These past few days, everyone has been incredibly tense, their hearts constantly in their throats, always worried about Xiang Yun. Now that Xiang Yun is back, the atmosphere at dinner is much more lively.
Xu Songning ate a little more for dinner, afraid that Xiang Yun's parents would worry about him as well as herself.
Seeing her engrossed in her meal, Ms. Cui and Mr. Xiang felt somewhat relieved about her health. They were truly worried that she wouldn't be able to hold on before Xiang Yun returned.
Although Ms. Cui said that Xiang Yun wasn't in postpartum confinement and didn't need to eat so much nourishing food, the next morning she urged Xiang's father to go to the market to buy a live old hen to make soup, instructing him to buy a large, lively-looking chicken.
Xu Songning slept in Xiang Yun's arms until she naturally woke up. She stretched and put her hand on Xiang Yun's shoulder.
She slept well last night and caught up on all the sleep she had missed.
Sometimes when Xiang Yun has nightmares, he will wrap his arms around her with one arm and one leg, holding her tightly as if afraid she will disappear.
Xu Songning would occasionally wake up from the heat, pat Xiang Yun's back, and he would relax a bit and fall back asleep.
The phone screen showed 8:30. If Xiang Yun didn't wake up soon, he would sleep for a whole day and night.
"Brother Yun, Brother Yun, wake up." Xu Songning lay down beside him and gently patted his face.
Xiang Yun frowned. He heard someone calling him in his sleep. He patted the spot next to him but didn't feel anyone. Suddenly, he woke up with a start.
He looked up and bumped into Xu Songning, who was lying on top of him.
"hiss!"
Xu Songning raised her hand to cover her forehead, and one hand placed on her forehead first, gently rubbing it.
"Does it hurt?" Xiang Yun asked her in a hoarse voice.
This time, Xu Songning still had time to daydream; Yun Ge's voice was so sexy.
She shook her head and rubbed her forehead against his. "It doesn't hurt."
Xiang Yun turned her head to one side. "I'm going to take a shower."
Okay, Yun's OCD is acting up again. He can't stand that he's been sleeping for so long, sweating, and still feeling sticky.
Xu Songning rolled off him and counted on her fingers, "He must have slept for fifteen hours."
"Fifteen hours, that's too long of a sleep." Xiang Yun stood for a while to catch his breath, feeling a little dizzy.
Xu Songning took out his bath clothes and put them in his hands, saying, "You'll be resting for a while anyway."
Xiang Yun wanted to kiss her, but then remembered that he hadn't washed up. Just as he was about to back off, Xu Songning kissed him on the cheek, as if she had seen through his thoughts.
To hell with obsessive-compulsive disorder about cleanliness!
Xiang Yun rubbed her cheek, turned around and went to the bathroom to take a shower. He shaved his beard, styled his hair, changed into his usual clothes, and appeared looking fresh and clean.
Hearing footsteps on the second floor, Xiang's father looked up and called out, "Xiang Yun? Song Ning? Are you awake?"
Xiang Yun placed his hands on the railing and replied to his father downstairs, "I'm awake."
"Go out and get some sun when you wake up. You've been sleeping for so long, you must be feeling uncomfortable," said Mr. Xiang.
"Okay," Xiang Yun replied, returning to his room. Xu Songning had also changed her clothes and was sitting in front of her dressing table, moisturizing her skin.
Xiang Yun braced his hands on the edge of the dressing table, pulling the person into his arms. "I remember there wasn't a dressing table before I came home last time."
Xu Songning raised her small face and gently patted her face with her hand, "Of course you don't need it, it was bought for me by my aunt."
"Put some on me too." Xiang Yun lowered his head, brought his face close to Xu Songning's face, and gently rubbed it.
Xu Songning pushed his face away, "Don't get my water on you, I'll put some on you."
Xu Songning picked up the can on the table and sprayed it on Xiang Yun's face a few times. Xiang Yun closed his eyes, and the water mist condensed into droplets on his eyelashes, which then flowed down his eyelashes.
"Quick, take a picture."
Xiang Yun imitated her, patting the water on his face, which seemed to have some effect, but not much.
The two of them carried a plate of freshly baked xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) and sat on the balcony basking in the sun.
Xu Songning was too lazy to sit in the hanging basket, so she leaned on the edge of the balcony and sat down, her legs dangling in the air. Xiang Yun stood next to her, holding her wrist with one hand to prevent her from falling backward.
"Have you been working hard these past few days? What have the company and the Civil Aviation Administration said?" Xu Songning asked.
"You've worked hard, Sister Xu, you have to make it up to me." Xiang Yun leaned on her shoulder.
A large, furry head rested on her shoulder. Xu Songning tried to push it away with her finger, but couldn't.
"You still owe me compensation. Do you know how worried I was when I heard about your plane crash?"
"Do you know what I thought when I heard your voice?" Xiang Yun took her finger and kissed it.
"What are your thoughts?" Xu Songning pricked up his ears to listen.
"Thank goodness it was you."
Xu Songning punched his shoulder. "What's wrong with me?"
Hearing your voice calmed me down; I didn't want to hurt you.
"You said you didn't want to hurt me, but you almost scared me to death." Xu Songning glared at him.
Xiang Yun laughed and patted Xu Songning's head. "How long are you going to stop working?"
"About a week."
"Then when we get home, you go to work, and I'll cook at home and wait for you to come back."
Xu Songning grasped the key point in his words: she went to work, but Xiang Yun still couldn't return to work?
"Is the company going to ground you?"
