Chapter 22 Danger! Danger! Danger!
Xu Songning made a voice call, and Lu Xiaomeng answered immediately, gossipingly calling out, "Hey~ Sister Xu~"
"Who spread this? Sister Wang's apprentice?"
"No, a few flight attendants who bumped into you came to me to gossip about this, haha. It got around and became that Sister Xu is getting married, hahahahaha."
"This is called spreading misinformation."
"What's going on? Everyone's saying your boyfriend went to the 'black room' to show his face today?"
“My mom is coming back next month, so I took my annual leave. I was thinking of treating my colleagues to coffee, but I had too much stuff, so Xiang Yun helped me carry it to the door. Who knew the rumors would get so bad?” Xu Songning sighed.
Lu Xiaomeng exclaimed in exaggerated surprise, "When did you and Captain Xiang become so connected? You run into each other several times even when buying coffee. Last time he gave you the leftover red envelope from your crew, and this time he's delivering coffee to you. Are you going to come over next time? No, wait! Captain Xiang has already been to your house, and he lives right across from you!"
"Hmm, I don't know either, I just keep running into them," Xu Songning replied.
"Oh my, oh my, there's even a captain escorting the coffee~ I'm so envious of Sister Xu~" Lu Xiaomeng said with a sly smile.
"Then you should find a captain too. I'll introduce you to one. There are captains all over the channel every day. I'll give you a broadcast and help you find a wife!" Xu Songning gritted his teeth.
"That's too much of a show for me. I think I'll just stay single. Being single is so comfortable. I'm just lying at home reading comics right now. My favorite author updated again, but it's a pity there's only one chapter a week. It's not enough to read at all." Lu Xiaomeng rolled around on the bed.
Xu Songning sent a head-tapping emoji, "You can keep reading your comics, I'm about to drive. Remember to debunk any rumors you encounter."
"Okay, bye-bye, Sister Xu."
"Bye-Bye."
Xu Songning hung up the phone, stepped on the gas, and drove home.
The neighborhood was very quiet. The security guard was patrolling with a flashlight. When he saw her, he greeted her, "Ms. Xu, are you off work?"
"Yes, thank you for your hard work," Xu Songning said with a smile.
"Ms. Xu, you've worked hard too. Go home now. Remember to lock your doors and windows and be careful." The security guard waved his hand.
Xu Songning walked towards the entrance of the building. The light at the entrance was flickering, as if it was broken. Xu Songning thought that he would have to tell the property management tomorrow to fix the light.
"Clatter".
The overhead lights suddenly went out, leaving only the card reader at the door still lit up.
"bite!"
The door clicked open, and Xu Songning felt a chill run down her spine. The dim environment made her feel unsafe, and she instinctively tried to close the door.
A hand gripped the door tightly. "Wait."
The man's voice was unfamiliar and sinister, making Xu Songning's hair stand on end. He reached into his bag with his right hand and quietly grasped the pepper spray.
Xu Songning turned around as naturally as possible and asked him, "Did you forget your card?"
The man was wearing a thin coat and a hood, which covered most of his face. In the dim light of the stairwell, you could see the lower half of his face: unshaven and with chapped lips.
She suddenly remembered the security guard's warning.
"Hmm," the man replied, his hands in his pockets. His pockets were large, making it impossible to tell if he was hiding any sharp weapons.
"Not pressing the elevator button?" The man stood with her in front of the elevator door.
If Xu Songning turned and ran, she probably wouldn't be able to outrun this man, and with the main door blocking her way, she might be taken down before she even found help. There are security cameras in the hallway and elevator; this man wouldn't be foolish enough to do something under surveillance.
My finger paused slightly before pressing the elevator button to go up.
One elevator was on the top floor, and another was parked on a middle floor; they came down quickly.
Xu Songning turned on her phone at 11:23. If she shouted, she didn't know how many residents she would wake up.
The elevator arrived, and the two stepped inside. Xu Songning stood facing the direction of the surveillance camera, trying to make sure the camera captured her face and most of her body.
The man didn't press the floor button; he seemed to be waiting for her to do so.
Xu Songning's heart skipped a beat, and he pressed the button for the fifteenth floor.
The man then pressed the thirteenth floor button, his eyes fixed on her phone.
Xu Songning was sweating profusely. This person had been staring at her the whole time, and she didn't dare to call the police rashly, for fear of angering him.
Inside the elevator, the red letters of each floor jumped up and down, and Xu Songning's heart pounded along with the floors.
As a notification sound rang, the thirteenth floor was reached, and the man left with his hands in his pockets.
Xu Songning quickly took out his phone and dialed the property management's 24-hour hotline.
"Beep beep beep..."
The dial tone pounded in her heart. She stood near the innermost level of the elevator, gripping her pepper spray tightly.
"Hello, this is..."
"I'm being followed!" Xu Songning interrupted the other person and immediately gave his apartment building and floor.
The property management staff tried to comfort her, but she hung up the phone because the fifteenth floor was fast approaching. As the elevator doors opened, the brightly lit, familiar hallway sent shivers down her spine.
Staying in the elevator is the safest option.
Xu Songning frantically pressed the close button on the elevator, but the elevator doors remained wide open, showing no sign of closing.
Her heart felt like it was in an ice cellar. A cold wind blew into the elevator, and even her breathing became rapid. She stopped pressing the elevator buttons and calmly stood at the very back of the elevator.
Her hand holding the pepper spray trembled. Xu Songning kept telling herself to take deep breaths, to stay calm, to stay calm. If the other party dared to rush in, she would immediately spray his eyes, then kick him in the groin and cripple him!
As her breathing became steady, Xu Songning felt she regain her strength. She gripped her phone tightly in her other hand, knowing it could be a weapon if necessary.
The elevator doors remained open, and an alarm began to sound.
"Beep beep beep beep beep!"
The continuous alarm sounds were rapid and intense, with extremely strong penetrating power.
The tiles outside the door were polished to a shine. Xu Songning stared at the ground when suddenly, a shadow flashed by.
Fireworks exploded in Xu Songning's mind; there was definitely someone outside the door!
She looked up abruptly, and a man suddenly appeared in the previously empty elevator doorway. His sinister eyes pierced her chest like a knife.
Xu Songning pressed the close button, but the man blocked the closing elevator with one hand.
"Who's there?" The security door was pushed open, and a familiar male voice came from inside his house, along with lively noises. A loud, energetic song was playing from the stereo, and there was the sound of men clinking glasses.
"Hey bro, can you still drink? What's that noise? Is anyone there? Did you get to the wrong place?"
It's Xiang Yun! And he's not the only one. We can't let Xiang Yun think someone else went to the wrong place. We can't let a man rush into the elevator!
A surge of emotion welled up in Xu Songning's heart, and she shouted, "Xiang Yun!"
"Xu Songning?" Xiang Yun responded in surprise.
"Elevator!" Xu Songning only had time to shout the key word before the elevator doors slowly opened.
The man rushed in, and Xu Songning reacted quickly, raising his pepper spray and spraying him. Caught off guard, the man was sprayed with pepper spray all over his face, screaming as he tried to wipe his eyes. Xu Songning used all his strength to slam him into the man, knocking him out of the elevator.
